Hey guys and gals

I'm in the middle of converting my R32 from an RB20e to an RB25de

To give you the run down of what’s been done so far

Old RB20e loom and ecu removed

Old RB20e removed

R32 GTS25 loom fitted

R33 RB25DE NON vvt fitted

As I have not been able to track down a R32 RB25de ecu I am going to have to use an r33 RB25de ecu

I have been testing it with an r33 RB25det ecu till the NA ecu arrives and I am coming up with three ecu fault codes

13 coolant temp ?

21 ignition circuit ?

34 Knock sensors ?

I’m wondering if anyone has done this conversion and/or knows what I may have missed when the loom went in as there is a couple of plugs that do not have a home to go in on the new wiring loom

One large one in kick panel behind the ECU and the other one is on strut tower behind the air box, gray one plugs in black one doesn’t have a home

Any help would be greatly appreciated :bonk:

Did the rb20e have coil on plug ignition or distributor? There may not be power to the coils.

It happens with sr20de to sr20det conversions too.

I haven't seen an rb25de pinout but there may be differences in the pin outs to the det ecu

Depends on how the power feeds are set up in the rb20e r32.

In an sr20de to det conversion the relays are all in the engine bay fuse box and there is no relay to power the coils. Same model car but different body looms, even though the det loom will plug straight in.

As the relays for eccs and ignition in the rb looms are located next to the ecu i'd rule that out, but there may still be a fuse/fusable link needed in the fuse box. Easiest check would be making sure that the coils have 12V. If not, then you can add a switched power feed direct to the coils or try wiring power to the ignition relay.

Knock sensors should work fine if they are ok as they are wired as part of the engine loom, which you have complete. The big plug behind the air box are your main switched power feeds, as well as ac on, power steering idle up, and a bunch of others i cant remember right now. There's a fair chance the ecu is running solely off the back up constant power and not the eccs and could also explain the coil fault code

    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
