Welcome all welcome all.

Struck by the lack of cefiro resource sites in Australia I decided to make my own.

It's still being developed (layout and user management being the 2 biggest issues).

This site is basically trying to cement some of the static information and knowledge that I've seen floating around the forums. This doesn't aim to replace it but what it tries to do is capture the information that you'd usually have to go sifting through pages and pages of stuff to get in an easy to read article.

As most of you know I'm not very technically minded. What I'd like are contributors - because we as a community should own and be responsible for the information!!

To this end I'm currently looking for 3 things-

1- Technical articles written as articles (not just yarns) that either directly or indirectly relate to cefiros.

Examples of cefiro related stuff is too_much_boosts article on SR20 conversions. I've been bugging him to do this for cefiroz, and luckily sky80 asked in the thread so he was nice enough to put up a write up which I've since put onto cefiroz for future reference.

Not cefiro specific stuff includes things like audio installs, which I will be putting up onto the site in the next month or so. This will include things like HID kit install, sound deadening, fibreglass boot installs.

We also need to cement some of the great wealth of information from you rb25 and rb20 owners! Some of too_much_boost's planned articles are daughterboard tuning and comparisons between turbos he has experience with.

I'm keen to have articles on the majority of stuff, exhausts, even suspension. Things like the parts that are interchangable from other nissans will be a big one.

I know with everyones pooled knowledge and supprot we can get a great resource site owned by the community for the community.

2- "Members rides" type of thing

I'm keen to get the sort of thing happening like in the sticky threads of the cefiro section here.

Basically - please send me some pics and write ups about your car !! I'd like to have ATLEAST 10 or so profiles of peoples cars. Mods and all. If you're not keen on listing your mods that's fine too. Provide dyno sheets where possible!

Please email these to me!

3- Banner!

As you can see my banner is quite a quick design jobbie. I would like to have a number of different random banners with all your cars in them. To this end any of you design graphics peoples out there with cefiros please design a banner!! It should-

- fit into the overall design

- be the same dimensions as the current banner (646x111 px)

- have the cefiroz text and the southern cross design in there (.psd available on request please email me, colour change is ok, so is positioning changes etc)

It'd be great to have actual cars that we have in Australia in the banner but you can use images you find on the net also.

Also any suggestions/feedback is welcome please post up here I'm looking for initial user site interaction impressions to start a log of issues that you guys see with the site so I can start to rectify them (as it's still very much in the development stage.)

My email is tom at coolchaos dot com . PMs are ok too!

Ok, I got some nice piccys of mine floating about. So you can use them however. Im happy to wack my mods up, do a little artical or something. Just as long as location is faked a bit shes rite.

And I'll be able to put some info up on the rb25 gearbox conversion by the end of next week (i hope), how hard is it, whats needed etc.

Where the ding ding ding your going 105kmh thing should be a good one to have up there too.

Im also going (unlike most of your foo!s) for a track set up over a drift set up. So after the next stage of that I'll wack some stuff up.

And like Stole CCs Im going down the stereo path a bit.

Thanks for pm pitchd.

Thanks Daveo you got some great ideas there I didn't think of. Make sure to take lots of photos for the rb25 gearbox :)

Location won't be necessary but if you like you're welcome to put in a fake one.. Please write something up and send it to me I can put it up straight away!

I'm still working on user management so people can upload pics themselves so right now it's easier to PM me with a desired login name. I'll make the login for you, you submit the article and email me the pics and within the article just write where you want each image and I'll put them in for you.

This is great community spirit!! Keep it up guys :D

considering a31 parts and the cars themselves are relatively new to us ozzies... its about time we have an a31 devoted site to host technical writeups and mass amounts of knowledge so people can gain information on how to do things with their cefiros and also create a kind of "middleman" to connect a31 owners to businesses which can help them

You guys can help now - if you have cefiros email me your profiles!

If you have tuned rb25 or rb20 and have technical insights into the tune please write up an article that might explain or help someone doing it at home or unfamiliar with tuning.

If you've used multiple aftermarket products and have technical insights applicable to sr20/rb25/rb20 then please do a comparison!

plenty of opportunities guys :P

Those who are wanting to help there is an interesting point about search engines that daveo raised.

We need more search-engine goodness!

I've been advised there are 2 ways to go about this. Writing bullshit articles that start with "This article is not about paris hilton and free porn as you'd hoped..." or "In light of the London bombings and lack of a terrorist confession and claim of responsibility we're going to talk about..." ... OR having many links to cefiroz.com from other places.

If you all search for your nicknames on google you'll notice you'll come up as part of the forum posts! So if you want to link the site in your sig or something that'd help too!

PS. We're not going for option 1 people :D Although it wouldn't hurt if you're writing articles that include "A31" "cefiro" "drift" "sr20" "rb25" "rb20" and other relevant things etc ;)

It's more or less finished - it just needs articles.

C'mon mate where's your profile? Infact I've signed 7 or so people up noone has sent through their profile!!

I've had the editor changed on the site so you can all contributors can upload pictures now. I also have one more module to install that will make the URLs more search engine friendly.

I will write an instruction guide for contributors and also a marketing and site plan for contributors making contact with "outside" parties for consistencies sake.

If you guys want to put cefiroz.com in your signatures on this and other forums that'd be great too - helps with search engine rankings and getting the word out more.

PM/Email me for contributor access!!

    • I know why it happened and I’m embarrassed to say but I was testing the polarity of one of the led bulb to see which side was positive with a 12v battery and that’s when it decided to fry hoping I didn’t damage anything else
    • I came here to note that is a zener diode too base on the info there. Based on that, I'd also be suspicious that replacing it, and it's likely to do the same. A lot of use cases will see it used as either voltage protection, or to create a cheap but relatively stable fixed voltage supply. That would mean it has seen more voltage than it should, and has gone into voltage melt down. If there is something else in the circuit dumping out higher than it should voltages, that needs to be found too. It's quite likely they're trying to use the Zener to limit the voltage that is hitting through to the transistor beside it, so what ever goes to the zener is likely a signal, and they're using the transistor in that circuit to amplify it. Especially as it seems they've also got a capacitor across the zener. Looks like there is meant to be something "noisy" to that zener, and what ever it was, had a melt down. Looking at that picture, it also looks like there's some solder joints that really need redoing, and it might be worth having the whole board properly inspected.  Unfortunately, without being able to stick a multimeter on it, and start tracing it all out, I'm pretty much at a loss now to help. I don't even believe I have a climate control board from an R33 around here to pull apart and see if any of the circuit appears similar to give some ideas.
    • Nah - but you won't find anything on dismantling the seats in any such thing anyway.
    • Could be. Could also be that they sit around broken more. To be fair, you almost never see one driving around. I see more R chassis GTRs than the Renault ones.
    • Yeah. Nah. This is why I said My bold for my double emphasis. We're not talking about cars tuned to the edge of det here. We're talking about normal cars. Flame propagation speed and the amount of energy required to ignite the fuel are not significant factors when running at 1500-4000 rpm, and medium to light loads, like nearly every car on the road (except twin cab utes which are driven at 6k and 100% load all the time). There is no shortage of ignition energy available in any petrol engine. If there was, we'd all be in deep shit. The calorific value, on a volume basis, is significantly different, between 98 and 91, and that turns up immediately in consumption numbers. You can see the signal easily if you control for the other variables well enough, and/or collect enough stats. As to not seeing any benefit - we had a couple of EF and EL Falcons in the company fleet back in the late 90s and early 2000s. The EEC IV ECU in those things was particularly good at adding in timing as soon as knock headroom improved, which typically came from putting in some 95 or 98. The responsiveness and power improved noticeably, and the fuel consumption dropped considerably, just from going to 95. Less delta from there to 98 - almost not noticeable, compared to the big differences seen between 91 and 95. Way back in the day, when supermarkets first started selling fuel from their own stations, I did thousands of km in FNQ in a small Toyota. I can't remember if it was a Starlet or an early Yaris. Anyway - the supermarket servos were bringing in cheap fuel from Indonesia, and the other servos were still using locally refined gear. The fuel consumption was typically at least 5%, often as much as 8% worse on the Indo shit, presumably because they had a lot more oxygenated component in the brew, and were probably barely meeting the octane spec. Around the same time or maybe a bit later (like 25 years ago), I could tell the difference between Shell 98 and BP 98, and typically preferred to only use Shell then because the Skyline ran so much better on it. Years later I found the realtionship between them had swapped, as a consequence of yet more refinery closures. So I've only used BP 98 since. Although, I must say that I could not fault the odd tank of United 98 that I've run. It's probably the same stuff. It is also very important to remember that these findings are often dependent on region. With most of the refineries in Oz now dead, there's less variability in local stuff, and he majority of our fuels are not even refined here any more anyway. It probably depends more on which SE Asian refinery is currently cheapest to operate.
