I have finished putting doing all the mods to my car in the list that follows:

-To4e turbo and turbosmart external gate on modded standard manifold

-600x300x73mm PWR Tube and Fin Intercooler Core with custom endtanks

-550cc series 5 13B Turbo injectors

-Z32 airflow meter

-Turbo XS BOV

-Oil filter relocator with oil cooler

-custom aluminium intercooler pipes

-Oil Catch can

-3'' mandrel exhaust from turbo

-2 x 12'' thermo fans

all this is bolted to a stock RB20 with 100,000kms on the clock.

Is being tuned tommorow and i am planning on running about 16psi of boost.

If someone could post some pics for me that would be good.

Clint,

What ECU are you using? I'm guessing you're getting Martin to do a remap of the stockie? Wouldn't mind popping down for a look if thats the case. I'm just down the road from Tilbrook's

Yeah nothin' wrong with the stock ECU once mapped to suit mate. If you keep tweaking & need further tuning then I guess it starts to get a touch costly.

It should make good power. You never know it may well get more than mine. Considering the 32 is lighter you won't need as much grunt to be as quick anyway!

Well I did everything myself and only got stuff when it was cheap, this has taken about 6months. All up i spent about $6000, with new radiator thermofans and doing everything properly. While not being cheap is far less than some would spend on the basics.

Clint,

I got almost the same setup as you, your ahead of me with the z32 afm & the injectors, but i sourced a r32 power fc :P

(did you upgrade your fuel pump)

Regarding how much power you be making, well im guessing at least 240rwkw

you can go even futher depending on the spec & rating of the turbo.

Regarding, remaping ecu or aftermarket.

Well after you installed all the mods & thats all you want 2 be done with your car then cheapest method is remapping it.

est cost $700+ inc dyno time

Downfall to it is that its fixed, if you wanna lets say your not happy with 250rwkw & want more & u decide to 2 some serious work to the car, eg piston, cams, porting head then you require to remap the ecu, which then total your cost of $1400+

Aftermarket.

Cost from $1200+ & dyno time est $300+.

Downfall is the price they are an expensive price of equipment, if your not goin over 190rwkw then forget about it go either mapping a r32 gtst ecu or buy a piggyback system.

If you plan to go ahead that 190kw mark then aftermarket gives u the freedom to do so, once its tuned for your car it can easilly be retune for other features that you may want to do to the car on future stage.

My Theory is done it right once & get it over & done with.

Well everyonce is askin for a price, guys remember theres no such thing as cheap performance.

If you have a stock car & want to be in the 200rwkw mark then heres a list that might get u there.

(ball park fugure) power

Cat back exhaust (for time being, will explain later) = $1200+

Larger front mount + piping = $1500+

Fuel pump = $200+

Injectors & fuel pressure regulator = $500min for injectors fuel pres reg go for around $150+

Power FC+H/C = $1200+

Boost gauge/Boost controoler = gauge $150+ controoler = $300+

z32 afm - $250+

On a r32 this will get u around 160-165rwkw only because the turbo has run out of puff, it does not mean the car cant go futher.

Turbo, depending on your choice! mine would be either a small spec t04e, HKS GT series or the TD06-20G = $800-$3000

Manifold = $1500

Wastegate is up to 2....depending if you choose an internal or external turbo setup but around $500 for a 42mm wastegate.

Dumpipe, $300+ get it made when u get the turbo because once you change manifold systems around & all that the seating of the new new turbo is different to the factory one, as i said why waste money on buying 2 items then doin it right the first time around.

Oil lines etc - $50

Or you can pick up a turbo kit for around $1800+ which is the better buy from my point of view

something around 220-250rwkw on a r32

more on a r33

Hope this give you guys a price range

*note this is without labour*

If i left anything out or said something wrong knock me down by all means

Joe.

The amount of power you can get really depends on how much boost you want to screw in to it. This car is my daily driver so it will be kept fairly sedate.

Yeah Joe I fitted an 044 a long time ago, the stock couldnt keep up with just increased boost.

While there is no such thing is cheap performance you can do thing well for a lot less than some spend.

PS- If anyone wants a to make a bid for the complete setup from cooler to exhaust tip i would consider it as im always planning to do someting else.

For me it was either a remap, or do the job properly. A power FC has no real advantage over the stock 32 ecu, the only thing i consider running my car on is a Haltech E11, or Motec.

The stock ecu does the job and only really laks some features such as data logging and output controls.

Joe that’s a pretty comprehensive list. Even so a lot of those prices would be for used parts bought on the cheap. Try getting a decent fuel pump for $200 :D

Clint for $50 all you would get is a re burn of your eprom. Who knows what kind of maps would be up loaded. You’d have to be a houdini to guess what fuel and spark to punch in for a 230rwkw car without doing any power runs or checking the a/f ratio.

Because it was so hot they didnt end up tuning it. Hopefully today.

Joel , i havent hooked up a temp switch for the fans yet as the davies Craig thing would not fit down the radiator hose so they on a switch at the moment, used 2 relays.

I need to find another way to switch them on though, still trying ti find out when that fan infront of the air cond comes on

My fan in front of the Aircon hardly ever comes on except for really hot days.

I had the car sitting there on a 35degree day for around 1hr when I had cooling problems and the thing didn't even turn on.

Those twin 2x thermo's pump the air through though.

    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
