They are awsome cars, but most people wont want to modify them because they will lose their New Car Warranty.

It would be tempting to lose the warrenty to see that huge power from a near stock car.

its getting very close to 3 years since ford released the BA falcon, so some early XR6T's will soon be out of warranty...

but that hasnt stopped any body, there are plenty of big HP XR's around, and plenty with just edits/basic mods

same with LS1 commodores... tho holden are a bit better than ford when it comes to warrantys & mods, so i hear

NinetySix,

There's no doubt the xr6 has awesome potential. And bang for buck when it comes to mods. Not including the initial purchase price.

No arguments there. :O

To get a GTST up around the 260-280rwkw mark you are looking at 1k for an ecu + 500 for tuning, 800 for injectors, 2k for a turbo, exhaust(bugger all) and fmic (bugger all).

Probably all up looking at 4.5k.

They are both awesome cars, one suits one person slightly better than the other.

For example myself.. Full time uni student.. Be buggered I could afford a XR6T. Little R32 with a nice turbo bolted on the side will do me.

Cubes, I agree that an R33 is cheap to modify, but costs to modify an XR6 Turbo:

APS Stage II Kit: $5650

282 rwkw

12.8 second quater mile on street tyres (auto).

Motor Review: APS Stage II

APS Stage III Kit: $8750

345 rwkw

11.6 second quater mile on street tyres (auto).

10.9 second quater mile on slicks (auto).

Over 300km/h top speed

Motor Review: APS Stage III

So the XR6 can play the cheap upgrades game too! Pity it can't match the R33 for cheap purchase price! For the money I would prefer either 34 GT-T or 32 GTR. (Sorry, but 33's just don't do it for me...).

The real problem for us jap car lovers will be if the HSV crew decide to shoehorn the new Z06 'Vette engine into the Commodore. They did it with the C5 ZO6 and created the 300kw HSV GTS. The new C6 Z06 comes with 500hp and 500lb-ft stock. Revs to over 7000rpm from a 7 litre V8. I'm guessing mid 12's stock for that thing if it ever happens.

Oh, and as for the original questions, stock GTST vs stock XR6T will depend on the driver - the performance is too similar. Stock GTR vs stock F6 Typhoon I reckon the GTR would get the nod.

Some of you guys might not believe me but my stock RB20DET (stock turbo i think?) auto has kept up with a XR6T Auto to 100km/h when he backed off. Beat him by a bonnet length, his engine was basically beside my door so i could tell he was giving it plenty of stick. I have not lost one race yet having eaten v8s, new BMWs etc, WTF MY CAR'S STOCK :O .

Mine you over 400ms the XR6T should whoop mine but meh for what it is i'm happy.

Just tonight i beat a stock RX7 series 5 without much of a problem, at the next lights he asks me with a sour face, "what have you done to it?" ahahaha.....

Is my car just a freak?

A lot of standing start racing comes down to the driver. XR6 driver probably didnt stall up the engine before launching. My mate drives an N/A S13 Silvia with suspension, diff and clutch mods and he has chopped a few cars off the lights with brutal launches. He was feeling pretty invincible for a while having beaten a few V8s from the lights. Then came the race with the Audi RS6... that put him back in his place.

APS have a very good product, but they have nothing to do with "bang for buck" .... ie, they charge like a wounded bull.

you can get the same kinda performance as a stage2 kit with just injectors, valve springs and an edit, which can be had for $2500 without even doing any of the work yourself.

to go to stage 3 power levels the only difference is the intercooler, again 2k for that is a bit rich .... these days even $200 hybrid copys have been running 9 second passes in VL's... so one of them or something better still would have it up around 330rwkw or more, which is a high 11 on street tyres for not a lot more than $3000 to $4000max

Yeah true about the APS kits. They are meant for people who dont really want to research their upgrades, just wanna throw some money at a company to do it all for them. And APS get a lot of business.

And for Boostn6Potter beating an XR6 in his RB20, i cant believe that. He musnt of being going for it, unless you got it second hand, and the previous owner fiddled with the boost :P.

And as for the Typhoon vs the GTR, well its no contest. 4 wheel traction just obliterates whatever power advantage the Typhoon has.

All this talk makes me want to get a Skyline. I'd love an XR6, but finances sort of kills me. But once im rid of my VP, a new car it is.

I think you have been lucky so far. The time will come when you will meet someone worthy enough.

I have not been beaten by a skyline yet(on a private road of course) but doesn't mean there aint a heap out there that would have me for dinner.

In regards to the warranty issue, I think those guys who want the extra power will just go ahead with the edit. Most effective mod for those cars and if anything goes wrong they can always flash there cpu with the original program before handing it back to the dealer. That's what I have done with mine. Very cheap power and it seems to be enough for now. Maybe when warranty expires I'll add Cam/headers etc.

APS mods cost a bagful. One of the reasons why they charge a premium is because they have got engineering certificates for their mods.

Heh yeah. What program does the LS2 use to change the ECU? You only going for NA power? the Twin Turbo kits for the LS2 are incredible for their worth.

I got to love the way people say that their car is a freak as an excuse of why they mysteriously beat other cars that they shouldnt. Bit like a guy from back in Ballarat who thought their NA VL automatic could beat my VP, both pretty much stock. (Mine had its head attacked with a dremel by myself. Man it chewed through bits, lucky it wasnt mine.)

Now for comparisons sake, a NA VL auto could barely take a tram.

Software is called VCM Suite which is pretty much the same as the EDIT but written by another company. I think putting a twin turbo kit on my car would be getting a bit ridiculous for suburban use.

You guys reckon APS is expensive?

300km/h and 11 second passes on street tyres for less than $9k of mods, whilst still retaining a fat low down torque band, smooth idle etc. And it's fully engineered, emissions compliant, noise compliant, etc. Plus it's drive in drive out - no messing around yourself (although sometimes that is the fun bit).

Sure you can stick a T88 turbo on an RB, run a million pound boost and get more power for just as cheap, but it's less usable performance (due to lag etc) and reliability comes into question.

APS seems like pretty good value to me.

you get even better idle quality, drivability etc etc with the edit over a unichip. apparently APS are working on their own edit, dont know if thats ready or not yet tho. but unichips are no comparison to the edit

the 9k dosnt include the engineers cert tho, that costs extra but it is available AFAIK.

personally if (when :D ) i have an XR6 i would take it to HPF in dandenong

I was just reading through an issue of WHEELS mag from last year, they test drove the xr6t and the best time they managed to get after numerous goes was a 14.3 in the manuel. My r33 gtst is 100% stock and at calder park a few weeks ago i got a on my second go [email protected] and im not a profesional driver that I assume these guys would be. So to answer the question what would win xr6t vs r33gtst pretty much the same performance, but i doubt the xr6t in 10 years time will still be pulling the numbers a 10 year old skyline can. Go the Skyline!!

PS Fords are shit :P

PS Fords are shit :P

I'll assume you meant Fords are shit except for the Ford GT and Escort Cosworth.

4049634288.jpg

Ford Escort Cosworth = not shit

fordgt05.jpg

Ford GT = not shit

Regardless of if you like Falcons or not, you cannot possibly say either of those two cars are anything except awesome. Anyone disagree?

I still think the Torana is a pipe dream. Holden has done it before (Monaro 427....) And if it comes out looking like the retard Astra it was, I wont be happy.

The TT Alloytech was impressive however, but i just can't see a hero Holden without a thumping V8 in it. I know most of the Skyline community have some form of unnatural hatred for these engine configurations......but thats just because of all the VN V8 P Platers that think they are the fastest thing on 4 wheels.

Nothing better then winning a traffic light duel with a V8 and using 1/2 the fuel he did. :)

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
