Ska
Well now after replacing the starter, the heater core has decided to kark it. What is even better is that it is not covered under the warrantee that I got with the car, yaay. SO I already know it is going to be a BITCH of a job, requiring the whole dash to be removed, so does anyone know if the heater core is the same as the R34/R33 heater core? If so I might be able to get away with getting a second hand one from a wrecker and spending a weekend pulling the damn thing apart and putting the new one in. If not, then order one from Nissan and pay a crapload more and still spend a weekend piss farting around. On that note, anyone feel like helping *cough* me out, I'll provide the beer, I have no tools, and no knowhow, so if worst comes to worst I'll hand it over to a workshop and pay for ~9hours of labour to get it done ATM it is drivable because it has a bypass, so it should be fine for a while, just no heat through the air system. How long should that last for? If it should last for a while, I might leave it until after December as this might take another sizable chunck out of my wedding fund, something I dont want to do. Suggestions, advice and ridicule all welcome Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84923-blew-heater-core/ Share on other sites
mcnamg
sorry to hear buddy it sounds like your having a run of bad luck atm would love to help but im im a bit geographically remote to you hope that you can find a cheaper second hand part rather than going to nissan and taking off your pants Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84923-blew-heater-core/#findComment-1538554 Share on other sites
Sydneykid
Well now after replacing the starter, the heater core has decided to kark it. What makes you think the heater core has karked it? It is most unusual, they are aluminium and don't usually corrode. It's not a loose clamp or split hose by any chance? If the core is split it is usually due to impact, so the damage is localised. You can fix it with epoxy, Selleys Knead It is what we use for such repairs. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84923-blew-heater-core/#findComment-1539812 Share on other sites
Ska
Yeah well I have not had a look at it, only going by what the mechanic told me, which was that the core was leaking pretty badly and would have to be replaced. I will be seeing the car this weekend, any way of looking at it without removing the dash......? Main thing is that the car is drivable with the bypass, just no heat through the air con system, meh. predator
it looks harder than it is.. just takes time.. for now, if its leaking very badly.. just join the two hoses together in the engine bay where it goes into the firewall. This bypasses it going through the core. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/84923-blew-heater-core/#findComment-1563400 Share on other sites
Ska
Yeah had that done, it's all bypassed and everything works fine, except for heat coming out of the climate control system, of course So feel like taking apart the stag gordo?
