Ali-turko, dont mean to offend, but people like you are the reason people think skyline drivers are wankers.

No. You're the reason cousins shouldn't marry.

ali-turko didn't do anything wrong - he's new to his car and thought we were talkin bout real products, and if you look at the functions they're damn good products :P

Everyone mods their car how they want it. We can all still laugh about it.

my my, such wit and guile! I really wish you wouldn't talk about your mother like that. I was merely making an observation.

I get a bee in my bonnet when people buy these cars "coz they're kool" and have no idea whatsoever about mechanics. I've driven an r32 GTR, and to tell you the truth, I was overwhelmed by what an amazing vehicle they are; I didn't feel worthy of it at the time I drove it, as I knew that you would need to be fairly switched on to drive it to it's potential. An (89) R32 GTR is also a 16 year old vehicle now, so I would like to think that those who drive them would have an inherent understanding of the goings on under the bonnet, the high likelyhood of something going bang if it's not maintaned to a T, and at least knowing that the turbos will most likely need to be replaced within the first year of ownership.

So that's why I get pissed when some squid with NFI goes out and buys a GTR with no concept of just what an amazing car they are, their heritage, and as one of THE best cars to ever come out of Japan, and wants a swichable 3L kit/ choose any other mod that someone with a clue would at the very least question the feasability of.

There are only so many GTR's in existance, and even fewer in Australia, and they deserve to go to worthy homes, and one day I would like to think that I'll be able to own one, that's if there are any left after so many of them being wrapped around poles or neglected to destruction, by people who buy them for all the wrong reasons.

So Ali, if that doesn't sound like you, I apologise, and at least you were man enough to admit that you made yourself look like a dick, which I do respect. But please, look after your damn GTR, get to know it intimately as they are very special cars that need lots of attention and respect. and for gawds sake, think before you speak, haters thrive on stuff like you said to confirm their beliefs that skyline drivers are wankers with no clue.

my apologies for the hijack.

Mate,

I think you make some good points and arguments. I too get frustrated with the whole car seen at times. Especially when people pigion hole skyline drivers. You know when you are at a party or whatever and the conversion turns to cars as it often does, on average how long do you think it is before a car conversation turns into a drift or 1/4 mile debate eg,:

Trev: "Mate, my BOV is sooo tuff, you should see how much faster I can run the 1/4 now mate..."

Alex: "Bullsh*t, your BOV sounds sh*t mate. I got a D1 spec drift BOV which sounds way sicker. My ride is sooooo arsy now mate."

I just try to see the funny side of all of this and like others have said let people do what they want, its not like you can stop them and at least its entertaining.

precisely!!! I just hate the fact that you have to be careful who you tell that you own a skyline, because more often than not, they automatically presume you are "one of those wankers". all because some twat thinks if he buyz a skyline wiv a big arse bov he'll get chikz. I tell ya, it's a hard stereotype type to sway people from.

but yeah, I still have a laugh at their expense, although the joke is completely lost on them. *sigh*

oh well, at least we can see it

seriously jezzerrr, you need to calm down and take a few deep breaths. ANYONE can buy ANY car they want for WHATEVER reason they want to buy it for. in the end, it is still up to them how hard or soft they drive it, how the modify it, and how they look after it in general. there is no one single individual that cuases a bad name for skyline owners as we all, in some way or another, have contributed....its just not visible in your own eyes. End of the day, you have to deal with it.

BTW, that was a lame mother "joke"

wow, I wish I could be as balanced and diplomatic as you. I know all that, but I'm still entitled to my opinion. did I say "because I think this way, you need to change!" anywhere? no. So what you're saying is, it's not right to be passionate about anything? Because someone buys, say, a Picasso, for the sole intention of laying a big turd on it, an art afficionado should just be cool with that, because "in one way or another we all contribute"? puh-lease.

The joke was meant to be lame. crazily, most mother jokes ARE lame as a rule. probably even more lame than cousin jokes. but thanks for stating the obvious all the same.

Oh and, you have to deal with the type of person I am, because, at the end of the day, we all contribute one way or another, so if people like me weren't around, the balance would be skewed and the universe would implode.

 Honestly dude, unless it's right in front of me, I don't really think about it hey. I dont walk the earth thinking of ways I can rid the world of people that abuse cars. You're right, it is anyones choice what they do with what they buy. when the subject comes up tho, I'll still say what I think, if I feel like saying it. It did, and I did. but anyone is free to tell me I'm a wanker if they truly believe that nothing I have said is legitimate.

Hmm its getting a little to serious for people just giving their opinions dont you think. I agree with both of you, sure its nice if people respected and understood what a good car a gtr is and how to treat it, but on the same token not everyone does know and maybe they do buy a gtr for the "image" or whatever. wldcrd is right, they can do whatever they want... after all its just a car, and its not your car they're doing to.. Try not to get to stressed over something you cant control or you'll die a young man!

I'll make a serious effort at a reply

If you had a 33 gtr then it would be easy....

On a 32, a panel filter will not give you hardly any induction noise.

A pod filter will give you induction noise, but hardly any turbo spooling noise

A ball bearing turbo will give you turbo spooling noise, and a pod filter will give you induction noise. Easy

:D

young my arse! I'm 27 :D 28 next month :):(

meh. it only annoys me when it's right in front of me. other than that i couldn't give two hoots what anyone else does.

yeah who would have thought someone would actually make an electronic BOV. talk about the definition of poser. I mean, i gotta admit, when I had the Magna (now we're talkin) i wondered what it would sound like to have a bov on it, but I couldn't be bothered with the time and money for a turbo setup, but i sure as hell wouldn't have wasted the money on a bloody electric Bov. To tell you the truth now that i've got the noisy bov thing out of my system (by having one for a couple of months), I'm looking at going back to a modded stock airbox and plumb back so it's not so obvious

    • Great work! Give it a clean up with some Emery paper, and I'd run a thread die over the threads too to clean them up. It will make reinstall much easier, and also life easier for the next time it needs to come out.
    • I'm not a fan of high humidity, it's one reason I don't mind being further inland out Ipswich, except the last 3 odd years, the drought broke, and it won't stop raining, which is making the humidity nearly unbearable when the rains are in during summer! For me, my body hates the cold, once the cold sets into my body, I'm totally screwed. I end up with severe muscle spasm in my back/shoulder muscles, and it feels like someone is trying to tear the muscles out. I have no issues with it getting stupid hot, so long as the humidity goes away. So the last 3 years as above, have been woeful! Ha ha. However, June 1st, and I'm only just converting from shorts and a tee, to long pants and a t shirt. And that's mainly as it's a bit wet and miserable and I wanted to work on a car.
    • I much prefer colder weather to hot weather, and especially prefer cold to hot and humid, Goulburn does gets pretty warm in the hotter months, but, I've found the humidity there is not as painful as even Sydney, the humidity up north is to oppressing for this old rooster  In saying this, it does get rather "nippy" in Goulburn for early morning, late in the evening walks, but nothing that a layer or two, some thermal gloves, and a beanie doesn't fix to make it an enjoyable experience, which is much more bearable to me than the oppression of heat and humidity,  especially at night when your trying to sleep If I recall correctly, a "wise man" once said that the "Southern Tablelands" was gods country, and I will not argue that point with him for the fear of a "permaban" LOL In car part related news: My intake is currently in Botany getting processed for the last leg of its shipping journey to my door
    • Had a go at the stuck crush tube this afternoon. Tried things like grips and a chain wrench first but wouldn't just twist straight off. So got to work with a drill. Started small and kept a depth stop on to make sure I didn't drill into the bolt. Made a line of drill holes all the way up and enlarged them. Then a combination of chisel and Dremel to split it all the way up. Levered the split to get oil in there and eventually it gave a bit while levering. Worked it back and forth with loads more oil till it was spinning freely, then with grips I could work it downwards and off. And no significant damage to the bolt (not by me anyway - just the 27 years of rust)
    • Well, I'm tired. I'm tired because about 4PM yesterday, before today's appointment someone immediately bought my bumper. They couldn't get it any other day as they're on the way back to NSW. So I had to do that big GTR conversion I had been planning. Unfortunately, the information on SAU about what you need and how this is done is incomplete. So what should be a simple bolt on affair, yeah, it's not. Did you know if you use all GTR items the bonnet won't close? This little manuever sent me into about 1am the night before trying to dodge a way to get it closed. I will have to revisit this in the next few days  - or maybe not, I may let a body shop figure it out. It all needs to come up and my motivation to pull the bumper off is low. It also seems to hit things in the bay where the GTT bonnet didn't. Yes I used 100% new OEM GTR items. Today, I had the joy of driving to the dyno looking like this: Given I had roughed in the fuel and given sensible but pretty conservative timing, I didn't really bet on having the car drive out any real difference than when it drove in. Sadly due to a miscommunication and laptop fun and games (and almost bricking the dongle, prayers and firmware updates indeed), I ended up using HP Tuner credits to licence the car that was already licenced. So in the end my laptop was used. It turns out my butt dyno is still well calibrated after all this time. The 325kw was on 74% Ethanol, the 313kw line was on 98. The other line is the 'before' line which was 281kw. While the numbers are pretty low, they're pretty in line with what you'd expect. Even if US dynos bump the whole result up about 50KW, gaining 10-15% is similar gains.  The curve of the cam is pretty much spot on with what was discussed as well. All this said, it still feels bad to not see the number you secretly want to see. Even if the car drove great beforehand, and I knew pretty confidently the car would drive out much the same way it drove in due to the nature of a wellish dialled in LS1 not gaining much if anything at all from being tuned from where it was. As expected, the car isn't particularly sensitive to running it at anywhere between 12.0 and 13.0 - And the initial timing at 20deg and 12.0 made 308KW. So 3 degrees of timing, and leaning it out to 12.7 for 5kw, anything above stopped giving any benefit until E85 (which has an additional 2 deg as before). Car itself behaved entirely fine. I found out that 100C = 1.15V! IAT at about 7pm was 19C. I might mess with the bonnet mounting.. but given the REO NEEDS TO BE CHOPPED TO FIT A GTR BAR this is possibly something I may leave gathering (more) dust until it returns to paint jail.
