got our ceffy back from getting hks 2530 / cooler fitted and tuned... maxd power 225rwkw which is good..

but major LAG problem... :P not making any hard boost till around 5000rpm ish... its worse than my 13BT with a 35/40 turbo on it....!!!

basically i thought it could be probs - collapsing intake pipe / dodgy boost controller / maybe not a standard comp???

just go no midrange and heaps pissed about the result... if i wanted a dyno buster would've got a t51 or something stupid...

the hks2530 is supposed to spool up nice and fairly early, its a ball bearing unit aswell!!!....

HELP!!!

here's another link which i posted in looking for help :)

Robo's your cars a 33? yes so a ceffy with a rb20 is going to spool later than that.

Huddy do you still have the standard stock wastegate if so swap them over and see how that goes. Mine was laggy too (not that bad) swapped the hks adjustable for my standard wastegate and it seems to come on boost a little earlier. Are you still running the stock wastegate hoses? if not you may not have the restrictor in the new hose and this can cause it to be very laggy.

Mine starts spooling (in 2nd) at about 2,800 comes on song about 3,500 and pulls hard all the way to redline. I figure the standard comp would be no good lag wise as you really want to lean the fuel curve out a bit and advance the timing to help bring it on boost. Mine does feel very laggy down low Im hoping to be able to advance the timing a bit as Ive heard auto's are detuned from the factory so can take a little more timing.

Any chance you got a 2540? by accident

just done this

removed boost cont and ran hose straight from actuator to turbo (stock boost) === to check if it is boost cont problem

result - seemed to be a little better, but unsure what boost it was at as i have no boost gauge and didnt want to push it too hard. but came on around 4500 ish in 2nd gear...

also checked computer

result - looks like a genuine nissan one, so unless its remapped (how would i check this) it looks standard.

I got a 2535 on mine and making boost by 3500 at least 1 bar. how much boost are we talking about here????

Could be a couple of things such as intake pipe sucking shut, not mapped correctly, boost controller stuffed, cat converter colapsed, take it back and say its not working right. Get your moneys worth. Check all your intake pipes as well.

'hey are you on msn sounds like we always got lots to talk about lol... "

Nup sorry mate you can always give me a call if u like names Ryan 041 115 2733

If I go to AIR tommorow I'll come say hi and see how u've gone with it

"talking about wastegate??? is this the actuator thingo??? the gold round thing that hose runs to boost controller?"

Yep sorry wastegate or actuator same thing sort of in my brain anyway

"how do i find if there is a restrictor in what hose ???? is this a rubber hose"

in standard form the standard black hose goes from the actuator (gold round thing) straight to the front of the compressor cover the hose has a sightly large black hose over the top of it. Are you still running the standard hose?

if you are look for a white line on the inside black hose and the hose will feel solid in that spot as the restictor is a little metal fitting that has a small hole through it. If your still running this small black stock hose you should be right

"and how on earth do i swap the wastegate's over ????"

If you still have one of the standard hose of the two stock turbo's ur selling swap them over its easy as I did mine in 5 min looks a lot harder than it is just two bolts and the little clip.

Id say the only real way to tell would be to take the ecu apart either that or look for a warranty stick thats been tampered with or broken.

Are your running the stock wastegate? the turbo didnt come with a adjustable on?

Try and get the hks turbo setup in the same way as the stock turbo if you can no boost control stock hoses and running from the actuator straight to the front of the compressor cover not running of the cooler piping or anything

were did u get it from? does it look like its in good nick?

thanks for the reply ryan

pretty sure it has a 'nissan' actuator

that black hose i dont think its standard, as its already been cut in half to insert a T piece for the dual stage bleed valve...

the turbo seems to be in really good nick... no shaft play, turn the car off and its still spinning freely...

will call you tonight

I have a test for you but without a boost gauge you shouldn't get too happy with it.

Unplug the wastegate actuator line so it get no pressure from the intercooler.

Plug the hole from the intercooler, or wherever it was getting pressure from (say with a rubber piece from a radiator hose or something and a ring tightener thingy).

Take the car for a quick boost - just TAKE CARE because if you put your foot down your turbo will produce the maximum amount of boost it can muster.. Probably blowing up your engine or turbo. Just boost it till when it starts to come on boost. If it comes on earlier than before then it's got something to do with the wastegate actuator or line.

Hope that helps - and remember just accel to the point where it JUST gets on boost and back off - ya dont wanna blow anything up pushing it harder without the actuator hooked up.

hey thanks for the test idea... actually yesterday had a test similar

1400R let me borrow his hks actuator which we put on...and also we removed boost controller, changed hose and ran straight from actuator to turbo ( to run stock boos right )

anyway also borrowed a boost gauge and dodged up just to test

with a bit of success it felt a LOT LOT better... still getting a hks evcIII to put in to test this week... then see how much of a difference it makes?

big thanks to ryan (1400R) for helping out with parts and knowledge!!!! :(

    • Ok I get you. But isn’t the butterfly intake a headache with the +T?  see this is my plan so far but please advise me into the right direction.  Nistune Ecu, 1000cc Bosch injectors, TD05 or TD06 Kinugawa turbo using stock rb25det exhuast manifold, walbro fuel pump unsure of model I think it’s 450/460, spitfire coils and sparks to suit and a R35 MAF sensor and boost sensor.    I was thinking maybe do a cheap eBay plenum $400-500 or try find a stock det neo intake. I think I’d port match it so it’s getting the full capacity but open to advice please.  Thanks
    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
