funny guy, but well put i must say. hahahahha

maybe thats why the turbo hasn't blown yet because i dont hold it at 12 or 16 psi for 5 mins straight.  Realisticly when are you going to hold it on boost for that long with normal driving?? unless you are on a dyno or on an autobahn its not going to happen.

this is such and age old debate now,

Can any one tell me the difference between a 34gtt and a 33 gtst turbo???

Because it seems that there a lot of 33's running around on 12psi with supporting modds though and being used hard, eg mine before i bought it it had been used a resonalble amount of the track, now that i have had it, its been to WSID with out so much of a hic.

Now all the research i have done it appears to be when ppl use standard everything expect ecu, then over boost, thats when shit goes wrong

The R34GTT turbo is around 15 rwkw better (260 rwkw versus 275 rwkw) due to its larger turbine cover. The rest is pretty much the same, except the R34GTT turbo has a plastic compressor wheel and the R33GTST has a steel compressor.

Like's been said in this thread, excessive heat is a factor in blowing the stocker. When you're at the drags, you're loading your turbo for 14 sec (well hopefully quicker :O) won't build up heat significantly. Out on the track, you're boosting more often, and for extended periods of time. It's conditions like these which are conducive to killing the turbine.

My brother was running up to 16 psi sometimes with his r33gtst which had an r34 turbo put on it. he gave it heaps on full boost and it held together. What are you basing this this 11psi figure on???

hes probably basing it on knowledge and common sense based on the 100's of other people who have been there and done there.

Extended RPM periods @ anything over 10-11psi the turbo will sh|t itself and spit the wheel. Its been tried and proven.

If you dont believe me, or anyone else on this forum i challenge you to let one of us take it for a MANS drive. Not some pissy school girl challenge from the 3 on a tree out front of your local KFC or Macca's

A couple seconds of squirting here and there on 16psi wont damage it too much, but it will over time.

Not that there is any point in running 16psi, it wont make anymore power than it was on 12psi :)

And thats all from R&D on just about any skyline from any person that has half an idea, not some stupid ego the need to fuel cause 11ty billion psi is cool.

16psi might sound cool to your mates. It does not mean it will do anything for the performance of your car, or aid your performance in bed

i have a fmic.. full exhaust and pod and i dont really drive my car hard

Every one has there own opinions on how much boost a stock turbo can handle, but there are so many variables that can cause a turbo to destruction for one how many K's the turbo has done, the life the turbo has had, how the person drives there car etc, I have recently brought an S2 R33 turbo for my R32 I took the time to find a turbo that was in really good condition that came off a stock car which had not been boosted therefore I knew the turbo hadn’t been thrashed. Its on my car now and I have been running 13psi all day every day and it hasn’t missed a beat, to be honest I wouldn’t run anymore boost then 13psi but I also don’t think 13psi is over boosting it, however I only ever really hold full boost for more then a couple of minutes when racing people. I also have supporting mods, which helps. I definitely agree that if your car is stock as a rock and your running 12psi+ you are asking for trouble

Also for the person who said all R33 turbos have steel compressor wheels is wrong. Series 2 R33 turbos are the same as R34 turbos and have a nylon compressor wheel.

Daily driving street - 12psi

nom point running anymore as there wont be any signifigant gain (if at all) running anmore than 12psi due to the turbo and its efficiency range.

If you want 'safe' boost then stick to 10psi or under, but you want more? Well, thats your risk! Simple.......... 11psi and it might stuff up, 12psi and it might stuff up, 13, 14, etc etc etc.

& frankly I reckon SK should be getting an apology.....

EDIT - 6000+ very informative posts that have helped a hell of a lot of people, all for free, speaks volumes about the man.

All I want to know is what supporting mods everyone is talking about (like the entire list). I'm currently running a flat 10psi and it goes really well... my support mods thus far:

Cat Back Exhaust

Hi Flow Panel Filter

Iridium Spark Plugs

Front Mount Intercooler

What else should I be looking at? I'm ultimately looking at putting a new turbo in :) so I might as well get it all right now~ car is a R34GTT as well.

Hi mate, Im sort of in the same boat... also wondering what else I should be looking at getting before the car goes to the workshop.

Got a 1997 Nissan Stagea wagon with:

RB25DET (R33 series 2) with a attessa 4wd system similar to the GTR, with standard autoshifter.

Whacked in an immobiliser / alarm and a nice stereo with sub/amps/door speakers etc.

The car has great suspension and the brakes seem strong at this stage. Will upgrade the front discs to dba slotted in the next x-months.

Ive got a full 3inch exhaust system with hiflow cat

There is a k&n pod filter in a custom air surround

2stage Hybrid ebc and a r34 gtt intercooler have been fitted

Apexi SAFC2 is in the car for the tuning,

and going to add very soon:

Apexi (maybe) frount mount intercooler, C-bend style so that the pipes use the standard holes

Apexi SITC for added tuning

Nismo fuel pressure regulator, with new high pressure fuel lines throughout, and will wave the wand over the fuel pump as well.

Got a Z32 AFM ready to go in, along with a RB25 Neo turbocharger and actuator of a low km R34

So should I be looking at gettintg further supporting parts before heading to the workshop to have it all put together and retuned? I'll be keeping it to 10psi.

Plus I dont really have a large budget, once the above parts are finished off and put on the car that'd be 7k spent on the car already, so got to 'cool' off for a while! (got to grab brakes and suspn yet!)

What have I missed that I ought to be shot for? Im new to turbo's so want to make sure the air/fuel/timing is all good, rather than stuffing my engine/turbo.

(Although I shouldnt have, I put my 2c worth in about SK, just 'cause you gotta aplaud those forum members who offer their experience/advice/knowledge etc, 95% of the other members out here have benefitted from that advice!)

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.      
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Comparison of the 2: Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
