neon lights are the bomb !!! haha, or not.

yes midnight is correct, you can get booked for even having foglamps on while there is no fog. hmmm, as for neons, well they are illegal in victoria. plus if they are red or blue well they are an even worse problem. they mite mistake ur loud farting honda civic with pumping music washer bottle lights and neons as a cop car.... ummm yes ok

so they are outright illegal in VIC? ive always heard different stories...so it'd be good to get the facts

1 guy told me you're allowed to have them on, as long as they dont pulsate/strobe etc.....

i assume you're allowed to have them on while parked ...

I have heard lots of things, like green neons are legal because they are not blue or red. ie, confuse with a cop car. I personally think they can make a car look really tacky, esp those cheap ones you can buy. I spose they cant do anything if they know you have them, and they arent on. But as far as i know, they are illegal in the streets, only legal at show offs and comps etc.

Ring up vicroads and get some more different answers ;)

the part about red etc, i heard that was because red can only be on the back of a car ie brake lights, and not on the front ie those stupid light up water jets....

either way, no neons will ever go on my car...maybe some interior 1's, but thats all....i like the idea of some UV light in the footwells.

dezz, if u want an idea, have a look at the vs calais (not sure on other models) But those things come factory with green neons inside the cabin, hehe. Not really, but they are lit up a green color.

Doesnt look too bad, i guess the main problem with neons in cabin is the brightness, need to make it a more subtle glow i would think to make it look decent

the trick with neons which most people seem to miss, is that you want to mount them so you cant see the neon bar itself at all. you only want to see the glow

so when putting them in footwells etc, you have to tuck them up under the dash, and then you'll just get the glow and not the shocking brightness of the bar.

my TX5 has red interior lights in the doors, and it looks mad before they fade out (when doors close) but UV is mad with what it does to white.

In NSW the bonnet squirters are illeagal to have wired in to a power source or even with a toggle switch to turn them off/on.

But they are allright if their purpose is soley to squirt water.nothing else.

That is also what i heard about the lights if they are on some1 may mistake you for a cop?!?

Neons in NSW are legal if you have white on the front, orange on the side and red on the back. Same goes for any other lights. Obviously looks crap.

If you have other neons, it is legal to have them on as long as your car is parked, the engine is off, the doors are locked and you have your keys in your pocket.

Sounds weird but this is what I've been told by coppers.

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
