Some of the race guys in our club use acetone to boost octane rating in their turbo cars. Seems to work fine. Never seen an engine suffer because of it. Its a lot cheaper than manufactured octane booster And be buggered if I can catch them!

But there is a risk in everything eh?

Cheers

yea i have been looking at acetone for a while too, i think they are right and it would be safe, becuse its only like 90mls to every 40lts, i mean there is more shit in fuel than that.... after reading that web site i think i might try it... f**k it its only an RB20 haha cheap!

well i'm gonna give it a go. read the full site adn it seems to make sense :P. bought some fuel yesterday without acetone and will try acetone next tank. will also note down how many k's and it's response. anyone else want to be test dummies.?

would be good to get an overall concensus

i bought 1lt yesterday from k-mart $11, will try it soon, just doing a bit more reading.

it is one of the chemicals in nail polish remover.

i dont think it would damage anthing it's only 30mls to every 40lts, plus it is only a glass and metal cleaner... so... ill give it a shot.

Hmm I think I will give this a go, will head down to K-mart and put some in when I fill up next to see if it improves on economy. So you just add it like an octane booster? They say to use 2.5ml per Litre... so for my 55L that's like 140ml per tank.

Read this post yesterday,

had some acetone where I work as a lab technician, prior to this done some reasearch and found a few sites with an emphasis on racing recom 5% by volume. Acetone 100ml/L (pure analytical grade) 1L added to 20 odd L of prem. Very happy, can't wait to leave work and get back in the line.

Is there an acetone craze going on...? I went to 5 different stores, and each had the label for acetone and a price but all were out of stock! at one place there was a little 500ml bottle and i picked it up and thought "narh there'll be a bigger one here somewhere" - the guy next to me swipes it and says "hope you weren't planning on buying that" then he giggled merrily to himself and proceeded to the checkout.

Managed to get the last one available at bunnings although I had to settle for a 4L tin for $28.99

my excel had a bit under 1/4 tank and i put 355ml (a beer bottle) of acetone in. drove around stop start, left to right. temp stayed normal, no miss, no post ignition. everything stayed the same, it might have gone a little bit better mid range, but cant swear on that, anyway it done no damage at all and ill be interested to see if any of you guys get good results.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
