new skyline

Hi everyone. In about 3-4 weeks I will be the proud new owner of a 93 Skyline gts25t. This car is stock standard.

Just wondering what modifications I should add first. I was thinking exhaust but for a reasonable one it is very costly.

Any mods that I can add that wont break the bank?

ALso, any other general information that a new Skyline owner should know would be great to.

Thanks.

Andrew,

There are lots of cheap mods that can be done, air filter, exhaust etc. But get used to the car first, enjoy it in stock form before modifiying it.

When you get the car then let me know, I may be able to get some rims and tyres for you.

Welcome! I am sure you will enjoy your new ride.

Wel i think for most of us the 1st mods we do are the exhaust and intake. Exhausts can be expensive but i tend to think that if you get any other mods done you still have a plug stopping it all at the end of your car... get rid of the plug so to speak and you will notice more of a difference with each mod. By the way skyline exhausts sound much nicer than honda civic exhausts.... so i recon go the exhaust and air pod and win up the turbo a little bit... that should put a grin on your face... as far as 17's go... check the for sale section. And local mags stores.

It looks like we may be having a cruise on Australia Day, could be a good way to meet everyone and talk about your new car.

Doesn't matter if you don't have the 'line yet, we still allow fags with Supras and Silvias to tag along, haha.

GTS-t VSPEC... My skyline is getting complied in about 1-2 weeks. This is why I want rims and tyres (low profiles) soon. If I cannot find rims before the car is ready for the PIT inspection I will have to buy tyres for the standard "16 rims. The cheapest I have been quoted is $150-160 per tyre.

I was at Mr Mags the other day and there were a joy set of "17 rims with next to new low profile tyres. They wanted $995 for these but werent sure if they would fit the skyline so I didnt bother. After thinking about this and realising that new tyres for the "16 were going to be $600 anyway, I might as well pay an extra $400 and get 4 sick rims with low profiles. So I went back in there today to arange a deal to buy them with the option of taking them back if they didnt fit. BUT THEY WERE ALREADY SOLD!! ##%@#$.

Anyway, if you know of any deals please let me know as I am looking to buy now.

MrGTST..it is black

Thanks to all...I can see that this forum will be a valuable resource for skyline information.

Wheres a good place in Perth to get exhaust work done and what should I get done.

Ive heard that "3 exhaust from turbo back is the way to go but is also bloody expensive from the prices that Ive seen on the net. These were however the "popular" brands.

What sort of exhaust enhancement can I get done that is relatively cheap and will provide a reasonable amount of performance.

Help and advice will be much appreciated!

Andrew, You should be able to get a complete custom system for around $1000. I tend to use Genie in Myaree, as they did a good job with mine and do alot of performance work. If you go for name-brand stuff then $2500-$3000 is normal, but I don't think that it is any better than a locally made mandrel bent system.

rev210,

What exhaust setup have you got? I take it is a complete system.

Andrew,

Many of the exhaust places are crap, you need to find one that does Import stuff often, otherwise you'll get a restrictive exhaust, you want 3" at straight as possible with mandrel bends. Either of the places that rev210 or I suggest will be good.

    • Yes the gear for the R33/34 is different, it is red and has a different number of teeth. My part didn't come with that gear though, so I don't know how many teeth are on the red one. You'd have to reuse the 260RS/R33 gear, as long as it's not destroyed.   Haha, as unfortunate as that might be it was working fine for about the first 1500km I've had the car for now.
    • Update all   thanks to the workshop manual, it lead me back to checking fuses as mentioned central locking and door open lights worked when acc was switched on. diagram attached shows two points of power 1. ACC and 2.  Batt with the later being fused (#28) I did check the fuses using a multimeter but I must have stuffed that up also. Went back and checked the batt fuse in interior fuse box and you wouldn’t believe it… a blown fuse. replaced fuse and everything is now working as it should including the climate control   thank you all with your positive insight and knowledge.

    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.
