Im FINALLY HOME!!!!!

had an eventfulday today... drove up to newcastle going 3000rpm in 5th at 100kmh (thanks nissan) and i got off the highway and sumthing wasnt right about my car.... cut a long story short one or two of the coil packs were on their way out...... car still powered and moved so i thought i could get home....(back to syd).....

Anyways left newcastle at about 8 and crusing down the highway.... keeping under 5psi and very little throttle as the car would violently jerk forwards and backwards due to missing and just not accelerating.......

got off at gosford exit (70km after newcastle) to give the car a break..... drove around some quiet streets and the car wasnt performing but thought it would do the job... got back on highway..... car wouldnt even hit 70kmh.... got worse.... 60kmh..... couldnt even overtake a truck up a hill 50kmh... people flashing their lights at me to move.....

1km after i got on i was off the highway...

i thought shit im in the middle of nowhere.... i better get somewhere safe just in case... gosford wasnt far behind so i pretty much followed the signs and ended up on the old pacific highway.... crusing along at 40kmh.... some nice corners down some hills.... get to a uphill the car totally stops..... mid corner.. wont start... nothing

dead...... no lights around

very little mobile reception.....

dont even know where i am.....

10min drive from highway....

this is about where you shit yourself..

through my connections i managed to find my saviour...... his name was Steve........

(free plug)

Steve from A & B Tilt trays was more than happy to come and rescue me..... he started his adventure from the westn subs of sydney and made it to me in a little over an hr (not bad for a 3.5L diesel huh) in the time that i was sitting on the road 2 cars went past... only one stopped....

The lights came out of the darkness and i have never been happier to see a tilt tray loading my car up...........

so after a slow (but continuous) drive back from my broken down spot which was in the middle of nowhere (blocks out images of crime shows where people get killed with broken down cars in the middle of nowhere) we managed to get home..... steves beast of a tilt tray pulled up outside my house and unloaded my car with the woken neighbours looking on.......

My (for now) shitbox resides in its safe place... waiting for me to go and curse at it and then fix it........

why do cars always break down when your in the middle of nowhere.....

so to end this adventure........

id like to say thanks to

STEVEN from A & B Tilt Trays...... 0407 704 203/0423 510 799 (24hr service)

EvilRx from fastfoursforum :O

Because no one else would save my sorry ass except him... and plus he didnt leave my wallet or bank account empty........

Thanks mate........

Ed

p.s. thanks to the unsung heroes that tried helping me over the phone and providing emotional support :)

lol, sounds like a very eventfull night, lucky you had your mobile phone on you!! otherwise you really would be shitting yourself :O

What would u do, if you were stuck out in the middle of nowhere, pitch black, nobody knew where you were, and you had no way of contacting anybody :S

hahaha the situation was falling apart as it happened....

broke down middle of nowhere...

no cars

very little mobile reception

no lights

8km to nearest town

decent walk to freeway....

i was so happy to see steve you wouldnt believe.....

time to take her apart now

anyone got any coils for sale?

hey all....

took the coil packs out and sparkies etc etc..... trying to find the problem.....

thought id do some routine checks so i took a fuel line off to check the flow etc......

No flow......

took the pump out (with help of doodz as my onlooker and parts schaffeur) and it wasnt working... gave it a wack with a spanner and it was pissing fuel everywhere...

put it back in the car and it ran for a total of 4 minutes.......

thought stuff it ill get a new one not a 2nd hand one.... 3 days after i got the car in december the pump died... got another pump off a forum member for $50 and it worked up untill now.... (1st one died overnight 2nd one died slowly thats why i didn realise)

called my mechanic.....

Bosch 040 $310 delivered to him within 30 mins.....

made some mods to the fuel system... stuck it in... the car runs perfectly...

still a bump on idle (dont know why!) and a bit of a complain when its still warming up.... but im happy to be driving again.......

Thanks every1..

Ed

its ALWAYS had a slightly lumpy idle..... nothing to do with the fuel pump dieing the other night  dosent bother me really and dosent affect performance.......

when i dont have a big hole in my wallet ill get around to fixing it...

    • The speedo's can be very conservative, when my Mazda NC MX5 speedo is showing 118kph, the GPS, and a calibrated radar.... cop mate.....hits me at around 110kph +/- 1 or 2 kph, and that is on a 215/45 17, stock tyres size is 205/45 17 as well, so weirdly conservative with stock tyre size When my Commodore speedo red 116kph GPS had me at 110kph After doing some offset and clearance measurements to see what can fit the NC on 17x8 +40, without guard rolling or rubbing anything at my current ride height, I've decided that when my tyres are toast, I'm going to fit 225/45 17 and see where that gets me IRT actual speed of my speedo and GPS/radar From the online calculator I should be still be doing around 5kph under an actual 110kph when the speedo is showing 110kph My ADHD requires that when I'm doing 110kph on the speedo, that the actual road speed is actually really close to that, and not alot slower And going from 205 to 225 still keeps the car within the %/mm allowable in the NSW vehicle rules and regulations, which is nice, as long as I'm looking at the latest version that is.....LOL https://www.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-02/RMS-13.464-Light-vehicle-modifications-Vehicle-Standards-Information-No-6-November-2013.pdf
    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
