Hey, I'm just posting this for anyone that may be interested in the Viper 791XV Responder alarm system (With remote start and 2-way RF Communication).

I ended up shopping around and bought one from Discount Electronic.

It's listed as $218USD on the site, and I was quoted $35USD shipping. That equates to $335 AUD (obviously dependant on exhange rates). --Note that this shipping is AirMail with no insurance - insurance doubles the shipping price. As a comparison - Autobarn sells these for $900!

The only hurdle I had was that the sites only international shipping method costs $135. I was told to choose this method, and a credit for the difference in the shipping cost would be credited back to my card. I did this, and the credit was done very shortly there-after! Excellent!

Overall - very happy with the delivery time of 4 business days (quoted 3 to 6), and the product is great! If you want absolute peace of mind - choose shipping insurance, but I didn't and mine arrived in perfect condition! For $335, its an absolute bargain!! If you haven't heard about these alarms, check them out!

I'll post a review once it's installed.

Cheers!

is there are way of wiring the arm/disarm to the power mirrors? (R34)

i got one, paid $380, $150 install.

The dude got the mirrors to close on the arm, but couldn't figure out a way to open them on the disarm. He thought might need to install a time delay module or something.

Didn't want to run constant power cos it would drain the battery.

any ideas?

if any one in brissy gets these alarms - tell me and I'll fit it.

I must say... If you need a alarm installed Chris can do it...

He helped me out by installing a remote start (mannix) alarm in my last car (superchaged VT) and did a fantastic job...

I couldn't believe the prices either...

He does a very good job for a very good price... ;)

bit of creativity will se it go both ways. you have to have constant 12v on them to make it work. do it right and it will open and close.

i was told a constant power line to the wirror will drain the battery?

i thought as long as it wasn't drawing current, it would be ok but the guy who did it for me said it would drain the batter regardless. They will CLOSE on the arm, that's all.

Apparantly you cant have the remote start and also have a extra point for the immobiliser, can anyone coinfirm this?

it can be done but its not the most secure way of doing things. if you find the wire that controls the extra relays , clip it , the car is gone.

if you do it properly the relays will shut down. I use a decent sized capacitor to do it. same goes for opening.

I have to have the 2point for immobiliser for insurance, is there anyway to do this with the viper.. or do I need to go buy another alarm

yes there is. HOWEVER its not reliable and VERY easily bypassed.

you would have just cars for ins. I take it. may want to read the policy on that. from memory they specify a two point AUST STDS item.

Dezz, yer may aswell start looking. Nothing else to do while sitting around and waiting for the next 33, f**kers!! their are no good ones around, you may have taken the last good one!!

Ask Chris Rogers about them, he reccomended it to me @ a good price to. I read about them over the internet and they seem pretty good.

Half of the battle of getting a good alarm is getting a guy who does a good installation though. Alarm is probably only as good as the installation is.

my TX5 has a mongoose M60S in it....and the alarm itself is pretty good...all black wiring etc...immobiliser all that goodness....i scored it cheap as too, RRP was spozed to be like ~$500, and i got it delivered express from QLD for like $255.

only thing is, the siren, in my opinion anyway, its not loud enough :S

I've got a good price on this viper as well, through GKTech...but its just the aus standard thing

now we're reading that if you add the 3rd point of immoblisation (which you need for insurance IF they let you have the viper in the 1st place) that you lose remote start...and thats 1 of the reasons i wanted to get this alarm...remote start, 2 way paging etc....all that wank factor. lol

does the mongoose you're talking about have any cool features? Do you have a link to the system at all?

and still havent picked up a 33? :D

i keep seeing the 1 you bought first time round, keeps goin up for auction again !

Meant to be a 5 star rated alarm, dont know what that means but it sounds good :D

Viper also looks good, has some mad features. But its so common among performance cars that i feel that it would be very easy for thiefs to overide that system. Thats what scares me off from Viper.

Yer the dodgey one i got 1st off keeps poping back up, the bastads dont even write on the auction report the problems it has. Their just happy to screw someone else, my supplier complained to them and warned the bigger companies. He said they will probably get stuck with it.

Best to PM Chris Rogers for any other features, as he mayb be able to a deal and throw some accessories in or something.

Yer mate, but he has directed me to some reccomended installers. And going by the rep Chris has in QLD, im sure he knows and trusts the guys he has reccomended.

If i get my line same time as you, maybe we can organise a discount if we go to the same dude...

Cheers,

Mark.

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
