personally, i think they should make it law (like in the US) to have 3rd party compulsory at least . i would be pretty P.O. if someone stacke dinto me without coverage. i have had a few discussions with friends without insurance, and we hypothesised that if someone crashed into me and didnt have insurance but said they could pay month by month like a payment plan (which they said they would do) i would go ballistic. As if you would wait that long for some idiot to pay up.

I have full comp and i have mentioned EVERYTHING. last thing i want to worry about is having to pull off parts and replacing them with standard.

bottom line, if you dont have the money to pay at leastf or 3rd party, then get a car that you can. and for anyone not willing to pay the huge policy costs of full comp, you will regret it if anything does happen! thats just my personal opinion.

Well, im one of those people that fit into the "dont have any" category.

Got it on my little (stock) corolla. Cost me $1800 full comp with Just cars. f**k i hate having a bad driving record, it really pushes up your insurance, guess the loss of licence for speeding really doesn't help my case. Reason the skyline doesn't have any is because its been off the road for the last (nearly) 6 months. Will be getting some once its back on the road.

indeed true, but i was loooking over my policy last nite

if your car has "illegal mods" they wont pay out?

totally correct.

Even if it does not contribute to the accident, you didnt tell them about it.

If you ring up and ask them, i think you'll find it voids your policy.

I could well be wrong but i think anything that voids the policy whether impacting the accident or not.. the insurance mob will void you regardless if they find it :P

They clearly state that you can make any modifications to your car.

But they have to be legal, and the insurance company MUST be notified.

Its all clearly stipulated.

Whats the first thing they are going to do when you get into an accident? Pull out your policy and see whats on the polciy vs whats on the car vs was it illegal.

Just about any mod can be made legal however. Engineers and EPA tests have thier costs though :)

Oh, and full comp (if i paid it) for my car is

$5,500

Agreed Value of $12,000

I laughed, thats less that the market value of a stock GTS-R.

Not one with about 30k+ on top.

They told me they could meet whatever i wanted, i told them upwards of 35k at the bare minimum and there was silence.

I wasnt going to pay $5,500 so thats where i hung the phone up :P

why should you declaire ur driving record for speeding etc.

its only a traffic infringement ont a criminal record

insurance companys arent in liason iwht the police or vicroads/rta so how are they to find out? by telling them they are just gunna jack ur price up, when theres no way they could find out otherwise?

agreed value on a 98 R33 GTS-T with mods $2400. agreed value of $20k. your driving record must suck

Nah, i think its incompetence @ the insurance company, not his driving. Ive called Just Cars 3 times getting 3 different quote numbers and then i called back and quoted the cheapest one. :D

Call back Dezz and see if u get a different figure.

Oh and it also makes a difference where u live also!!!

Im in Deer Park, one bird on the phone told me if i were in St Albans id have to pay about $100 extra, i was like f**k i am basically in St Albans what a crock of sh!t. (even though i benefited i still told her that it was BS)

I suppose but the differences shouldnt be that much, its not like a house a car can be broken into/stolen when not in your area.

So if my car got knocked off in Toorak i should pay 1/2 price on my access cos it was knocked from a ritzy area :P

In summary insurance companies are criminals :)

    • After using a protractor for an actually accurate assessment of what is required,  and by NOT using my uncalibrated eyeball I worked out I need a 25° silicone bend from the TB ro the MAF, but, my choice was either a 30° or a 23° (23° is a weird spec), so I grabbed the 23° one from Raceworks I also grabbed 1mtr of 3" straight from Just Jap, I needed 350mm, but they only had 300mm, or 1mtr lengths....meh Also ordered a 1/2" hose bulkhead fitting from fleabay, this has a smoothish mushroom looking head (they are designed for below the water line of boats) that will fit inside the bend, the hose bit and threaded bit looks to long, but nothing that a hacksaw cannot fix if required, the hose will then just get jamed on the threaded bit up to the retaining nut Fingers crossed and the unsightly amount of hose clamps will be reduced down to 4 once all the parts arrive
    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
