Umm if what you guys said was true about the cops confiscating your car and selling it... then I probably should transfer my new car into my dad's name... :)

Anyone have any idea what is the safest thing to do since my new car hasn't got the transfer papers done yet? :)

Very wise advice <_<

Although I am a very sensible driver, no one is perfect, and driving to uni everyday in peak hour traffic can push you over the edge sometimes. If caught during those times I would accept the normal punishment as I would deserve it but to loose my car? I don't think so!

Actually I don't really think the whole impounding thing/'police have no power' is a load of b/s since I was speaking to our TMU friend a few months ago about this exact thing and he said somewhere like... Wagga?.. it's a pain in the ar5e caus the cops impound them but it's costing them heaps of money as they have nowhere to store the cars, so they have to be driven about 1hr or 2hrs away or some such to the impound lot.. (or whatever). Of course the details are a bit sketchy caus it was a while ago now. I'll be sure to ask next time I speak to him.

Anyway I totally support the idea of impounding all the commodores that do burnouts across from our house at 3 in the morning etc etc, and hopefully even the twat in the 31 that almost ran into me (in the 'line) the other day doing fishtails (he didn't seem to mind there was cars coming either)... but I'd be more interested to know how exactly you're supposed to defend yourself if someone 'dobs' you in and you're innocent. Personally I can think of better ways to throw away money than buying new tyres/new rear ends etc and have no desire to do burnouts etc, but theres nothing stopping some fool from making a false report.

And I'm not sure about the noise, but yes you can already dob in someone for smoky exhaust or littering (incl throwing cigarette butts out windows or something flying off the back of a trailer), just to clarify.

what do you think you're gonna lose your car for?

if driving to uni pushes you over the edge and you then have to drag everyone, and do burnouts, then you'll lose your car.

No, I said I was a sensible driver, I don't do that shit. Its just I occasionally speed when I'm late (obviously where safe, although we are led to believe any form of speed kills :) ) or fang it to get ahead of the slow pack which may seen as "hoon" activity to the cop.

Wait, what the f**k?

Third Offence: Possible total loss of vehicle

Do we at least get compensated for it?

If your stupid enough to get done 3 times I say they deserve it! Compensation is for when you NOT in the wrong.

It's simple don't act like a wank#r on the road and your safe! :(

PS - The number does work!

i know of someone who has been done twice, just b4 they changed the rules in nsw to 2 times.

oh n they can also sell a vehicle if its caught being used without registration in nsw. they did this to a 500cc dirt bike here bout 2 yrs ago.

dunno how tough they are in vic on this law. but in nsw it is legal......

oh n i was just readin this on that epa site:

EPA must have the information reported by the police, as the vehicle must be heard by a trained ear and a decision must be made whether the vehicle is excessively noisy.

i thought they used machines to decide how loud things are? they goin old skool now or somethin?

Trained ear my ass. I would destroy them with some pre-assessed sounds and a sound meter.

I bet they couldn't explain what the difference was between 90 and 93dB mathematically let alone by ear, especially in an outdoor changing environment where sound can superimpose and reflect.

Juts a couple of nights ago there was some LOSER bouncing off the rev-limiter in 1st Gear in the wet practising his drifting or something on the back streets just 20 meters away from me at 11pm. He went on for like 3 -5 minutes .. it was a R33 GTST too.

Not impressed!!

I was praying he would blow his engine or something.

i alwyas hear people cutting sick with the burnouts from my bedroom window (where im sittin on the computer)

the big shopping centre is about 1 min walk away, so im assuming they're doing it in the car park there or just at the intersections etc....but they do it for so long at once, i cant beleive they dont get busted.

they do sound like some pretty animal cars though

    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
    • 310mm rotors will be avilable from Australia, Japan, and probably a few other places. Nothing for the front can be put on the back.
    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
