Hey everyone, just wondering if there is any Apprentice's here on SAU as a Chippy or Sparky? Im going to TAFE next hopefully to start a Pre-Apprenticeship course as a Carpenter, just wondering what the wages are like for a Chippy compared to a Sparky? There is a shortage in tradesman at the moment but a few years down the track do you think we'll need them as much as now? Any Apprentice's on here no matter what you are can give advice if you like.

hey im a 2nd year fitter machinist... good pay, good job... first year wages are a bit of a shitter... couldnt run a hot car, get smashed every second weekend and live on 3 hundred a week but second year is about 450 and next year i go up to 650 so by your third year you have caught up to all your mates who do labour jobs ect and you have a trade under your belt so imo its the way to go...

good luck

Im a Fitter/welder tradesman and apprenticeship are well worth it. In ten years we will need even more tradesman than we do today so no matter what you choose you will be employed. I 'd go the sparky if I had my choice they are in heavy demand and their work is quite easy compared to my trade and CLEAN. Chipies tend to have highs and lows in their work, depending on the housing industry but is a good trade as well. I encourage anyone to do a trade because like me you can leave when your sick of it and go back anytime.

chippy will depend on the market and if people build houses or not. where as a sparky is pretty much always in demand, even with that you can do jobs on the side for your mates installing stuff and that in their car. thinking back now wish i did start an apprenticeship but its a bit too late now for me.

but yeh as first year, it'll be a struggle but in the long run, you can start your own buisness and make some good $$$ etc.

3rd year Apprentice Draftsman here, first year was shit pay at $220 a week, 2nd year wasn't much better at $305 3rd year was the biggest increase $420 4th i think is over 500, but when im qualified; contracting rates start at $50 an hour, so in the long term its worth it.

I go to Ultimo tafe... anyone else on here go there?

sparky wages would be a bit better than chippy...

tho the schooling is a little trickier, but the work is generally more mental than physical in comparison

im 2nd year adult and take home about 600 a week without any overtime... but im getting heaps of overtime so its quite a bit more than that...

2nd year adult is same as 3rd year junior

work for a electrical contractor that specialises in air conditioning control systems

some jobs are small, some are big..

recently completed the new direct factory outlet in essendon, that was a pretty big job with a nice $3.30 an hour site allowance :D was there for a good 3 months straight, with 350m cable runs. it was hard work tho, i lost a lotta weight pretty quickly and grew some biceps from pulling such big heavy cables all day long

i have a good job as far as apprentice sparkys go and im greatful for that, as i the company i started with paid shithouse money...

$300 clear first year, $370 clear 2nd year... no thanks. some domestic sparkys wouldnt even get that... and the jobs can be hard to find

i look forward to minimum $32 an hour when im qualified in mid 2008 tho

First year i was clearing about $380 a week and it only got better from there.

I went on to do my electrical engineering degree and thats where the money is peeps.

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
