Help! High Pitch Noise

G'day people,

I'm kinda new to skylines and turbos in general so any help would be appreciated.

I have just had installed a new HD PBR clutch in my r32 gtst and upon driving it home have now noticed a high pitch but not overly loud noise that comes on above 3500 when accelerating.

I have a K&N pod air filter and 3 inch turbo back exhaust. I can hear the usual wooosh of the intake but then at about 3500 it's sorta taken over by a bit of a half whistle half scream noise.

When not in gear and i rev it...it sounds just fine, it's just when driving that it makes the sound. Also possibly, though not sure, it could be coming from the passenger side..(maybe)

I have read other threads and can see that the likely culprits could be

a) turbo about to go (Better @#$# not!)

B) intake or intercooler piping crack

c) BOV leak, (though its stock)

d) It's related to gettin the new clutch

Any wisdom on this matter would mean that your a champion!

thnx

jeremy

was your clutch slipping before it was replaced? it is possibly only whistling now because the new clutch is holding and transferring the power properly rather than losing it thru slipping. this would place more load on the turbo i would think.

passenger side is turbo/induction, i'm no expert but it could be a slight leak from a turbo gasket causing the whistling?

thommo, your response sounds logical because yes it was slipping before i got the new clutch

just wanna know if anyone else has had this problem because it seems like it could be very common??? esp in a 15 yr old car

definately take it to an expert and get it checked out asap, no problem on turbo cars is ok to ignore. generally by finding the problem early you will save money and tears in the long run.

not a good idea to go off the word of a novice on the net either, take it to someone who really knows their stuff :D

yeah take it to a specialist... you should be able todetect it your self... depending on how big the leak is... hold your hand around the turbo area focusing on the gaskets around that area see if you can deel the leek.. even give the car a little rev off the throttle body while feeling around.....

dont burn ya self though. lol
