I'm seriously considering throwing some $$$ into my car.

Been doing a LOT of reading, and i've pretty much settled on this list of goodies.

Car at the moment has stock ECU and stock turbo/cooler, as in sig.

Engine appears to be healthy, it's just clicked over 100,000 and had all belts/pump replaced etc etc.

1) Z32 AFM ~$250-300 2nd hand

or $400 new Nengun

2) Genuine Hybrid FMIC with piping $800 autospeedbits.com.au (delivered)

or $700 no-name with piping justjap.com (delivered)

3) Apexi Power FC $950 group buy SAU

or $1050 Racespec

or $954 Nengun

4) Injectors SARD 550+ Collars $930 nengun

or Nismo 550 $890 nengun

5) Turbo GCG Hiflow $2000 [EDIT: now HKS GT-RS]

6) Beefy Fuel Pump *tick* Mk4 supra

7) Heavy duty clutch *tick*

?? 8) Fuel pressure reg eg $150 Nismo nengun

TOTAL $4050 + ?injectors + labour/tune

--> $5000-6000 complete, give or take a bit.

Bearing in mind i would be installing the PFC and FMIC myself, and then probably get it trailered to a shop with a turbo and injectors and get them to make it go :)

I want a bolt-on turbo without too much fussing around and i thought the GCG would be a good way to go for cost and ease of fitting.

a few questions for those that have done this before...

a) Will i need injectors? it seems that i will.

b ) Will i need a fuel pressure regulator?

c) Rough power - is 240rwkw reasonable or would 220rwkw be more likely?

and finally,

d) Would it be better to source parts and get them in, or get a shop to sort parts for me? I've heard so much conflicting information. I'm not set on getting "rice" name parts; they are just what came up on a quick price hunt for initial costing.

If i've left stuff out i'll try and add it in.

Thanks for your ideas/opinions/criticisms,

B

Im not in anyways experienced, but I dont think you'd require a Nismo fuel pressure regulator along with the injectors. Spend the cash and go injectors.

Also, search ebay for great condition 2ndhand 'name' brand intercoolers direct from Japan. Or a GTR cooler for $500 local with custom pipekit (again can buy a box of pipes off ebay and cut them to suit your application).

Sounds good though - I had a budget of 10k over 2yrs for my Stagea, already spent over 6k in 4 months! :)

Yep. If you're short on cash then a fuel pressure regulator will be enough to get you to 240rwkw but with enough money you might as well save the hassle and just go straight for the injectors.

Aftermarker injectors will be far more than enough for 240rwkw which you should be able to get with this setup

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah i've got mods both sides of the engine, and have the stopping/handling side of things fairly well sorted aswell.

Been thinking of getting some bolt-ons for the engine for a while now, and i finally (read: a few years!) feel i know the car's limits well enough to strap on some extra kilowatts

Never ordered through Nengun before, but through a similar site (Taka Kaira). I'd be expecting 2 weeks or so for delivery?

please read the sticky

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=66556

mod order/suggestion threads are all covered in there.

only reason ill leave this open is you've given specific detail re: pricing and so forth.

here are some answeers for ya.

a) Injectors, dont need a reg, stock one is fine

B) Refer a)

c) 250rwkw, Bass Junky did with his GCG, but slightly different to normal one but around that you'll make, more than 220

d) PFC - get from nengun/greenline. Get a NEW Z32 AFM. 2nd hand ones cn be dodge and not worth the hassle

go for 740cc's as they are like $5 extra per injector from nengun.

and get nismo instead of sard no need for collar crap

make sure you have 3" split dump and 3" hiflow cat

and some good tyres as well. good cold air intake dont leave the pod unshielded

Okay after much reading and research and conversation i've decided on the HKS GT-RS. Good resale and i've read nothing but good reports.

Nengun has a package with PowerFC + 740cc Injectors + turbo kit, which i know a few people on SAU have installed in their cars already, with good results.

My concern is re: injector size.

I'm consistently getting told 550cc is plently for my needs. Having the overhead with the 740cc ones is fine, but a few shops have mentioned that the idle will be better with the 550cc ones.

The co$t between the two sizes is negligible

Does anyone have the 740cc injectors running, or know someone that does. any problems? This will be a daily driver battling peak hour traffic regularly so it is concerning :(

I've read every injector thread i could find and this issue is never mentioned. (maybe it's not much of an issue??)

I'm looking at getting this done in the next month(s) and will be sure to post dyno results etc for anyone else considering this path.

Cheers guys

I had them running in my car for over 8 months.

No problem what so ever

- direct fitting

- drove peak hour every day for about 4 months during that time also.

- idle was no different to stock (using a PowerFC)

You think the GT-RS isnt a bit of overkill for you though?

the GCG item is exceptionally nice and would be better suited IMO

^^Thanks, good to know.

I'm aiming for 250rwkw. Looking at track days and some advanced driver training with the car once it's all sorted.

GCG hiflow rb25det's seem to vary from 220(base)-260(with cams)rwkw from what i've seen, whereas GT-RS cars seem to be consistently pulling around 240-250, higher with cams.

I have a feeling i'd be a little disappointed with 220 if that's what i ended up with, is all.

Price difference is about $600 all up, with a stock turbo to sell/play footy with. Resale value comes into it too - IMHO the HKS will come out on top when it comes time to sell the car.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
    • As MBS suggested if this is happening when the engine is cold you're going to want to remove the intake air regulator and verify resistance + that the shutter is physically opening and closing. At -20C should be fully open, 20C half open, over 60C fully closed. At 20C should be 70-80 ohms. For AAC valve testing using a Consult cable see if you can raise and lower the idle by commanding more or less AAC duty cycle. Hopefully it's pretty linear as well, shouldn't be like 30% AAC valve is barely idling and 40% is 1500 rpm.
