Hi all just need to vent a little cause I’m really pissed off at the moment.

Unfortunately I do have to park my pride and joy 280zx on the street on a regular basis so I suppose it's sort of inevitable that it will occur with the below average driving skill of Sydney residents in general (present company excluded), how ever It just shit me to tears upon returning to my car to find a massive dent in the drivers side door.

Not only that but the paint is cracked slightly and if I don't hurry to fix this problem almost immediately that dreaded rust will get to it.

Of course as pre the norm in Sydney, no one leaves a note either. I did do a bit of a recon mission to check the neighbouring cars and there was a very suspicious looking Pajero parked a few cars over that had scrapes to the front right bumper and well the hight of the bumper just about matched the damage to my car.

Handed around for about an hour hoping the stupid driver of this vehicle would return but alas I had to leave due to other commitments.

The sad part is that I only have third party property not comprehensive insurance, but as I do have the suspect vehicles rego I am able to track down the owners name and address.

But the question is, will they fess up to it? Probably not. So what do I do?

Do I simply cop it on the chin and pay for the damage myself or do I hassle this person. I could well be that they didn't do it, but I think that there are simply to many things pointing to this low life sack of shit having done it....

End of rant :)

That is quite a nasty dint you have there...

Not sure what hope you have though - my sister's boyfreind had a VERY massive dent all the way down the side of his car, from someone backing into it - one of the local businesses saw the incident and immediatly took down the rego - but alas, no hope, even with the rego and statement, still wasnt enough because by the time the police found the other car, it had been repaired :) But goodluck though...

Cheers,

Chris

that sucks the other day outside my work some bloke in a commodre with a two bar backed his car into a parked car. it was quite a decent little knock and he certainly would have felt it. he didn't even get out of his car, he just sat there so i wrote down his details and put them in a note and put them on the window of the car that was hit. a good deed for the day!

Thanks for the support guys.

Just need to get it off my chest.

Didn't think I'd have bucklies of seeing a dime from this person.

Oh well, I suppose it was time for a respray anyway, so I might just get the damage knocked back into place and wait till next year, when I might get it put under the gun....

Just shits me that people like this get away with it, and we have to suffer for their stupidity.

I hope you put your details on that note too, becuse without them the note is useless.

This has happened to me several times before, when i had a black, small car. Never again, people just dont seem to see them!

Thanks for the support guys.

Well, next time you see him you could try to ask him if you saw anyone hit the car !!!! then slowly move on to the topic of his car damage and see what he has to say about that damage !!! if he hit your car he will be packing sh!t <_<

track the son of a b!tch, i mean car owner down and ask if he did it ... cant get their car fixed too soon .. <_<

seriously though .. good luck trying to get the guy to fess up

they wont want to pay the excess any more then you do

Man, sorry to hear about your car. Hope some miracle happens and who ever did it confesses. Might be good idea to put a note on your car window, asking who ever hit you to come forward and play on their conscience.

I'm now about 90% sure that it's the 4x4 that hit me. Judging by the hit, I'd have to say that the 4x4 came up the opposite side of the road, had seen the parking spot infront of me and atempted a U turn which SHE di not manage to complete. This is when she hit me. Then reversed up alitte further and parked a few spots up.

I've now reported it to the police, and after alittle snoopin around have managed to obtain the lady drivers name and address, so I think it's time for me to draft a letter of demand.....

Then it's up to her to submit it to her insurer... fingers crossed

Thanks for the comments and support guys n gals...

IT WAS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( Jim carey )

Just trying to enlighten the mood :) \

Well you said "her" and that adds further to the possibility that it was her... women.. *ducks* Of all people women are the worst when it comes to leaving you there details... i've been in a car when some lady has reversed straight into me.. and just driven off.. ( well atleast she thought she got away ).

Watched some lady reverse into a car at Westfield and just drive off...

The list goes on and on.. and onnn

I'd say though.. follow your hunch through..

Woman + pajero + driving = :)

In my old car (lancer) i was going to a dentist in Lane Cove and parked my car in their car park.. when i came back to my car, the whole entire driver side of the car was dented and scratched. I almostt cryed. I was determined to find who did it and walked round the car park looking at all the cars. I found a car parked just outside of the carpark which had dents and scratches and all my nice white paint all over thier front left hand bumper.. it was clearly the car that side swiped mine.

Went to the cops etc and left a note for the driver under their windscreen wiper telling them i knew they ran into my car and to contact me or the police.

An elderly woman rang back that night saying she did park in the parking lot but then reversed out cos she was parked too close to the other vehicles (obviously while she reversed out she side swiped my car).

So anyways she denied hitting my car (probably too deaf and blind to notice) and the police didnt want to do any further investigating so i had to pay for it :P well i had to pay for the excess..

So now i am too scared to park my skyline anywhere

With that kind of evidence, you should have taken her to court. And i would almost bet on the fact that she would give in and pay out once she say you are serious about going to court, or at least your insurance company should have sorted it out.

Well I made a report to the police but suprise suprise they said there is absolutly nothing they can do, even though my paint is on the other car.

They would'nt even mention the other vehicle in the report... Either way i'm going to get two quotes and send them to the driver and see what happens.

Chances are though that i'll have to cop it on the chin.

Shame really, but I'm sort of getting tired of the saga and just want to get my car back into it's original condition so I can enjoy driving it again. At the moment everytime I hop into it to go for a spin I get annoyed and don't enjoy driving it so much. So it's off to the repair shop next week.

Anyway, thanks everyone for your advice and support.

In my area this bullsh1t happens all the time. It amazes me just how many people are not only useless but are also low enough to avoid the concequences of their uselessness.

Hope this doesn't come out of your own pocket. Unfortunately chances are probabley low

Ok , Zoggys final thought for the day,

If you hit someones car one night, no one around would you leave your details , it would be easier to just keep driving and save a few hundrew dollars ...

Think about that question people,

im off, lunch break nearly over :)

stop leave a note that says

"sorry i damaged your car a cant afford to fix it"

    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
