Ok, well, guys here is a story for the kids ;)

Well, i got my Stag, went bought the paints that i needed (it was like, $50 of paint/glue etc) then i started at it. Did some black parts, underside, interior etc, then started on the body... well... i was using white enamel paint and after doing 50-60% of the car, it looked pretty bad. Not very smooth, not perfect (as i like it) etc.

So, I at the time didnt know that turps melted plastic... sooooo...time to remove the enamel with turps! 5 minutes in my body starts cracking. I cracked some of the pillars off, the side of it cracked along the door, the roof/bonnet was fracturing...OH NO!

I cleaned it ASAP, got all the turps off and let it sit in water over night. The plastic then became very soft and it took some time of glueing, clamping, waiting etc but i fixed most of my body. However, not all the paint was off. I sanded back the entire body and reside, made the plastic smooth again, spent about 2 hours on this. Then, the baby was ready for the spray paint.

I sprayed her about 2-3 hours ago, going to let it dry overnight, but look how she turned out!

The one problem with spraying is that you need to do it somewhere well ventilated, but that often means somewhere pretty dusty. I have ha a few dust particles settle on the roof and bonnet, but HEY, what can you do? Its much smoother then the enamel paint anyway and i am happy with the results.

I am as of yet to attach the lights, paint the grey strips down the sides, the roof racks etc, but i am going to let the car dry for a good 2 days before i touch it again. It is now drying under a plastic container that i cleaned the inside of like there was no tomorrow.

Will let everyone know how it looks as i draw nearer to completion. This is the first model i have ever made properly (paint wise) and spray painting, well, it was a $3 can from bunnings and the only other thing ive ever sprayed was my strut bar. Lots of thin coats seems to do it well!

Oh, by the way, stay tuned as i have bought "smoke" paint to tint the rear windows like real life. I doubt i can do these without leaving streeks though....maybe i should use some night shades? ;)

probably should have also had the rear view mirrors on before i painted, and the wipers and stuff, but ill just paint those off the car then glue them on! I am excited!

mines been painted but have yet to find time to put the clear coat on it for that glossy look unfortunately metallic paints for models dont come glossy and need a clear coat will post up pics when i do some more

alex how did you go with the roof rails?

has anyone tinted their windows?? would the stuff you use to tint tail lights work?

I would beleive the stuff used on tail lights would work a treat. I bought paint to paint the windows, but i am scared to do it as i fear it will become streeky (sp)

Thats why I sprayed the body. Ive got to get around to painting all the interior, then i can start to glue her together. The bloody underchassis is complex as too, the suspension and all. I will try to finish it during my easter break, after all my assesments.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
    • FYI: Racebox RE7R Custom Tunes Released!   https://goracebox.com/.../2017-infiniti-q50-q60-re7r-tcm...   FOR GEN 2 (21+) VEHICLES, PLEASE SEE NOTE AT BOTTOM See more   But whomever tuned your car is the tuner you should go back to, AMS, Sonictune or BT Tune....
