Can anyone recommend a good quality alloy wheel repair place?

One of my Volk Rays copped a few decent 3-4" gouges on the edge of the rim the other night (similar to a gutter scape). It's gunna need more than a quick buff & polish  But hopefully nothing major? Any ideas on a cost would be handy too.

Thanks in advance

Matt.

there is 2 place on south rd near richmond rd i think that do that sort of thing, cost souldnt be to much. I had a mate that had 4 gtr wheels machined flat on the edge as someone had put large gouges in them.

Pitty those 540s tyres dont have any rim protection, thats what you get with flat race tyres a guess.

Thanks Clint. Any idea of the names of these places?

Yeah no rim protector is a down side  I'm normally very careful, but these things happen.

I was thinking ~$100 or less to fix it?

Thanks heaps Henry/Clint

I just had a look in the Yellowpages & it lists the 2 places you guys mentioned.

They're next door to each other!

307 South Rd & the one you listed Henry @ 308-310.

Use Extensive Wheel Services over the road from adel wheel & rim

they do all of Dannys repairs & just recently fixed one of my TE37s

Hmmm, I wonder how they are at fixing driveshafts!!!!!

Working on it.Going to try not using the linelocker. If I'm a split-

second late coming off the button when the clutch is out,it's just too much for the driveshafts no matter what they are made of.

Without the locker it may roll through the beam & red light, but

that doesn't matter when I'm practicing.And thats what I need -

practice. You know what it's like on the street just before you have a drag. It's like x50 on the track. No excuse for bad driving though- just have to keep at it.

I know exactly what you mean! Lots of people watching, helmet on can't hear much & in an uncomfortable seating postion! Just what you need to run good numbers NOT!

Oh yeah the wheel will be back on Thursday. $137.50 to have it back good as new! Pricey, but muuuuuuuch cheaper than a replacement! Not that it was that bad anyway :P

Actually it is quite comfortable. The carbon/kevlar seat is spot on,

the momo steering wheel feels great, & everything is in easy reach.(except my sunglasses if I leave them on the dash before I

do up the harness)The people watching doesn't bother me & with the helmet on you feel 'in the zone'.

It's the staging & lights that sometimes mess me up.I try to take my time, relax & just drive the car - but it all happens so fast. The biggest problem in a turbo car is the need to hold the revs high to build up boost. If the starter takes his time starting the tree you are sitting there on full revs for too long.If he is quick & starts

the tree as soon as both cars are staged - the revs are not up for long enough & it bogs down.Every racer goes on about reaction times - which are very important when you are actually racing. But

when you are just qualifying/practicing it doesn't matter at all.Of

course it's hard to ignore the light & just go when you're ready - but that is exactly what I need to do until the car is fully sorted.

It's like skydiving,You practice & practice on the ground. You go through all the steps time & time again. You know what you have to do.But when you actually take the leap - your brain goes @#&*^%&*^!!! & it's hard to even remember exactly what happened.

I enjoy driving the R33.It gives me a thrill.When I get a good clean

run I know that all the hard work & expence will be worth it.

This weekend (if both cars are running fine) will be the Australian

street tyred GTR battle, & I am the underdog.Anything could happen.I have only pulled a 10.6 so far so any predictions would be unwise - but I would certainly like to pull my first 9 sec 1/4 mile.

No.The Evo is just for cruising.New HKS exhaust went on today.

Will be in the R34, my brother Daniel will be in the Evo (He has a V8 so is excluded from this cruise) & Nate will be in the Honda.

We might be going into Melbourne st before 6pm to meet the WA

guys & escort them to the cruise. If anyone else is interested in doing this(to make the cruise a bit longer) let me know before lunch tomorrow & will make a time/place.

Sat is all about racing & will only have the R33 there.

My wheel came back looking 100%. Very pleased with the results :) Thanks for the advice John.

Anyone needing a rim repaired should give these guys a look - Extensive Wheel Services.

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
