Hi all.. Was running low on juice so went to BP to get my weekly hit.

And all the ones I went to along Paramatta Road were all out of stock. :)

Apparently there is no more/they are running out.

I spoke to servo dude (who is always helpfull, the one i sometimes goto), he said its about a 3week wait for more BP Ultimate :) He also said there is a shortage on 98 Octane petrol. WTF?

Dammit... Sux0rs...

Have to go fill up shell optimax.

You can get BP to sms you when they have stock.

Yes and apparently in WA they had a sortage too, how just only recently this week they said they have some stock now.

Wonder where it came from ?

Oh and this outage of Ultimate is for NSW & VIC, I reckon ACT too.

Lets all go for a cruise to WA to get some drums of Ultimate!

Optimax is shittymax. hehe

i been using Mobil 8000 - i can say that its not too bad.........

The first 2 tanks were sweet - but the thrid tank i got (all from the same servo) must have been a shit batch of fuel - my car was pinging - IT NEVER PINGS so im really hanging out for BP to come back on the market!!!!!

Doodz.. it's been like this for about the past 3 weeks.. emailed them the other day.. and called them..

they said restock is not until mid-late december..

guy on the phone said they were shipping it over from amsterdam..

not sure if that's true. - but yeah.. everywhere is out.. from hornsby to north sydney, to parra.. not sure about the south.. northern beaches too.. atleast that's where I tend to buy..

been filling up on shell optimax, finding I get better economy.. but bit down on power..

I know optimax and ultimate = 98 ron, but is it caltex or mobil that uses 95 RON high octane?

I know one of the servo brands don't have 98...

All the majors have 98RON brews now...

Shell Optimax

BP Ultimate Gold

Caltex Vortex 98 (the Vortex 95 is still around too)

Mobil Synergy 8000 (I think the 95Ron one is Synergy 5000, not too sure).

BP Ultimate has been unavailable for about 3 weeks now, as Links said. I've heardand read a few different reasons: there were problems at the refinery; there was a minor accident at the refinery; they are creating a new mixture and have in the mean time run out of the old stuff we all use now; they're not willing to sell it because petrol prices have dropped about 10-15cents - due to lower oil prices - in the past few weeks and they want to keep their profits high (they're absolute bastards if this is the real reason)...

Who knows? My Stagea is being run on anything at the moment, as long as it is a 98RON fuel. Currently has a tank of the 98 Caltex Vortex, which so far is nothing special.

Nick T.

There's no ultimate on the central coast either.

Yes all majors have 98RON premium, 95RON normal premium and 91RON ULP. Mobil's normal one is Synergy 6000, which is 96RON. Their ULP is 92RON, it seems they like to add an extra RON just to be different. :)

As if it bloody doesn't :(

What's so special about BP ultimate anyway?

I just use what ever premium im closest to, whether it be vortex, optimax, synergy 8000 or what ever

What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
