Depends, is the interior of your can hollow or filled with filtering material (stainless mesh etc). If its hollow, hooking it up like you said would be as good as not having one.... oil vapours in -> oil vapours out.

Could i - In theory, Block the hose that goes to the intake altogether?

Yep, I've done so with a suitably sized brass bolt from pirtek. Only thing left to do is hang a filter off the free cam cover pipe or connect it to a vented container. The cam covers can't be blocked off altogether, it needs to be able to release any pressure build up.

The engine doesn't need any oil in the intake, we're not driving rotaries here. :( Macka, adam32 (i think), deesh and myself have diy jobbies. Ask us at the next cruise.

but remember theres 2 types of catchcans, some just catch the oil and then u have to empty it,these are basically empty containers which are easy to make, these have to have some sort of breather, the little filters are really good for this as when u just have holes in the top it can sometimes splash out, then theres the catchcans that filter the oil inside it,which kinda have sections in it, inasnt if i was u id drill a hole in the top get a fitting maybe 1/4" and screw it in,then put the filter on top of that, would only cost ya 3 bucks for the fitting and 10bucks for the little filter, there actually little pod filters there cool

Turbomad - my intlet track is the same - zero oil in it, so it'd be pointless for me to install one too.

Yet 2 friends with turbo cars both hae oily inlet tracks....

Strange... Does the oil come from the turbo leaking oil around the bearings or does it come from the crank case brething up into the cam covers and then out that way??

J

Well I guess it can come from both, seeing as our Skylines are still farely new low km cars it's unlikely that boost will slip past the rings pressurising the sump and forcing oil out the rocker, this is mainly a problem with cars running very high boost.

i made mine myself and mine is exactly the same as yours except it has a filter/breather on top and a drain plug at the bottom to empty it when the level gets too high.

this type of design is so much simpler than a plumb back design to the sump or filtered air back to the intake and so much easier to make and install.

and the benefits are exactly the same: no oil in the intake, reducing the chance for detonation.

so u r running both the cam cover ventilations to the catch can?

there r about 3 ways to set it up, not sure which one i am gonna do.

Have u found much oil in the catch can they way u have yours setup?

Venting to atmo is the easiest way to set up yes, but it's not legal, I got a canary on my vl turbo for that setup.

INASNT the hose was fairly cheap can't remember how much, it's funny I pulled the BOV off the other day and there was some oil around there but not in the catch can, maybe it was always there from before I fitted the can, don't know.

That's a beauty canary's for an empty container not connected to anything haha! How did you go with the roadworthy? Did they pick on your pod too?

he didnt actually write down the catch can on the canary form!

I went today to get it checked by roadworthy place and guess what, i dont have to change any of the crap the cop wrote down!

COPS DONT KNOW SHIT WAS THE GENERAL THOUGHTS OF THE GUYS THAT WORKED THERE!!

INASNT - wouldn't it be tempting to take the paperwork to that cop and show him that you didn't need to change anything to pass, just to prove to him he has no idea

But then I suppose he would pick on you evertime he see's you :D

i was thinking more along the lines of taking my roadworthy certificate and pasting it to his forehead with a 12 gauge shot gun!

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
