hi guys

wondering how many people here have an engineers certificate and if they are "worth" the money

reason asking is that I've done a search and the answers are inconclusive

i will be getting a certificate for the following items:

exhaust - under 90db

suspension - above 10cm

enclosed pod

cf bonnet - the ones with the fibreglass under and cf on top

the cf bonnet is the main reason i want to get the cert.. i rang the engineer and he said there is no reason why it cannot be engineered be it fibreglass or full cf

cost is around $500 so i just want to make sure it is "worth" it to get the certificate.. this is with an engineer within the RTA list

cheers

E

I reckon it is.. my brother has one and it seems to keep the police happy.

But as I've said before, different engineers will say different items can be certified.. so keep calling around until you find someone who will engineer all your stuff.

emission tests are usually done at the RTA at the botany depot, im not sure if that is covered in the engineers cert tests, i don't think it is actually.

Anyway, i think it is well worth it as it certainly does give you peace of mind when driving around and knowing you can't really be defected.

Greg and the lads at autosport engineering in Kirrawee did mine :D

As for exhaust volume, i think mine was like 94dB at one point, the mic was situated like a metre away from the car or something *shrugs*

So long as u got the certificate and keep it or a copy in your glove box at all times then you should be sweet

Also, when/if you get it, make sure you register it with the RTA or the slip don't mean jack

Yep i got mine done at Autosport. Greg did it for me. TOP BLOKE i reckon. and it keep the Cops happy...well some of them try to say i changed some stuff(eg Muffler) after i got the eng cert...im like wtf?...i wouldnt do that.... :D

Your car's still light-tuned and in ways that are really hard for a mechanic to stuff up, so personally I wouldn't go get one unless getting hassled by the cops was happening on a regular basis.

Aside from the bonnet, my car's mod list is almost identical to yours. But because my car looks and sounds stock (at around town speeds) and I don't drive like a tool all the time, its never been an issue.

But if I were to get a cannon exhaust, FI kit or something that makes it quite obvious its not the same as what Nissan released I'd definitely get it engineered.

im gettin one for mine just after christmas when it comes out of the workshop

my mate had one for his crx and still got defected but after some time in court n shit it got cleared but it sucks that u spend the money to cover ur ass and still get 1 d/h cop who wants to stuff u over,

as long as u give them the cert. before they start writing stuff down then they have to abide by it as my cuz told me who is a cop

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
