  1. while in adelaide i always used bp ultimate, as we dont have optimax. Mobil 8000 isnt as common in SA and we have the idea that it doesnt get much of a turnover so we dont really use that either. When i first brought the car up to sydney i filled it with optimax and i certainly noticed less power plus it just didnt run as clean or strong. So far havent been dissappointed with ultimate. whats the bottom line with fuel going "off"? in my understanding that would be dropping its octane level. Ive heard that sitting for even a month or 2 can have it go down. Where does this 1 year thing come from?
  2. seeing as the 2835 "ProS" is the only variant that will bolt on, this is what i will be looking at upgrading to. Mose: im not saying your car doesnt have 270+rwkw, and i know that HKS's power ratings are conservative and rated at 1bar, but even with you running ~1.3bar i just cant see a 350ps rated turbo puting over 270kw at the rears! Reading back over grepins 2835proS thread, he makes 275rwkw at 1.3bar, plus he has a plenum! I am thinking that there is a major dyno discrepancy here! what type of dyno did you use? please post the sheet up!
  3. 51jay you should make 220rwkw in your sleep with that turbo if i can make 227rwkw with a 2530! I know that the 2540 gets lots of bad wrap, but i think this is mainly from tests done in twin form on GTRs. Ive never heard of anyone running a single one on an rb25 and complained of lag! How could one smallish turbo on a reasonable engine of 2.5 litres be laggy(?), is what i think! Im sure sydneykid has commented on it, but i cant remember his comments, and searching for a specific post from him would take me all day! I am still wanting to hear from mose about his 270rwkw! either something is amiss or what he thinks is a 2540 is actually something bigger! because to me anything over 250rwkw from a HKS GT25series is so far unheard of!
  4. 51jay when you say it may be laggy on a stock r33, what have you done to yours that makes it not laggy? also to mose, would you say yours is at all laggy? 272rwkw is a lot more than i thought it could make! thats a pretty big figure for a smallish turbo. Didnt grepin get only mid 270rwkw's out of a 2835proS? 51Jay what power does yours make at the wheels? i was going to get a 2835proS, but if i can get 270rwkw at 18psi id be pretty happy with that!
  5. i changed from stock rotors with bendix metal kings to dba4000's with ebc greens, and it made a very noticeable difference (note that my std rotors were 1mm undersize). Very initial bite is low, but they only need a small amount of heat before the bite becomes real positive. Only prob now is the std brake lines. I get fluid fade and/or line swelling after a good thrashing so im getting some braided lines very soon. am told they will make a world of difference, and that if i was even considering track work, i should most definitly get them fitted!
  6. curbsurfer, ive been playing with a 2530 for a while, and IT IS TOO SMALL FOR A RB25! The very most you will see is 230rwkw, and you wont be able to run more than 14psi at the top end as the rb25 has too much exh gas flow in the high rpms making the compressor spin out of efficiency and boost drops off, and intake temps increase and detonation increases. It is not correctly matched for this engine, and suits an RB20 perfectly, not a 25. That said it is still fun to drive and spools like nearly stock, but after your used to the extra midrange torque, the lack of top end kick makes it a bit boring. a 2535 should give you 240rwkw and the 2540 250rwkw. HKS japan website has dyno graphs for these turbos on a rb25 and you can see that overall the 2535 looks like a great match. The 2540 ove been told is the best if you are going to fit cams to boost the midrange a bit.
  7. YRLO5S, who were you? i was there for maybe 5 mins and i dont think i spoke to anyone in a skyline. I spoke to a dude in a pulsar (i think), and a couple of guys who came up to my car?
  8. awesome result. are those AFRs rich? i know the power your making is at the upper end capable with std turbos, but is there more to be had from bringing AFRs up to mid 12's?
  9. so busy, rocked up at 11.45am, the road that lead to the gates was COMPLETELY queued with cars, there was hardly any room to line up! So myself like many others turned around and went home
  10. i would actually go as far as to say that you would be able to find a nice turbo 34 for 25 grand in about a years time. i really dont think 34 prices are going to go up. I didnt think 33 prices would drop as much as they have! now you can get 33 turbos cheaper than some 32 turbos! everything comes down in price. 34's not so special that it will go up. Look at 34gtr, not too long ago these were 110grand, now you see them as low as 75grand. get the 34, newer shape, newer car, better car. And if your a few G's short just save a bit extra to get what you want. my 2c
  11. cool, well if any of you guys see me, come say hi. cya there, Allan
  12. thanks ben, he will be coming in my car, how much does a crew pass cost?
  13. guys, if im bringing a mate whos going to spectate, is he allowed to stay with myself and the car for the first couple hours through scrutineering etc, before the drags actually start? cheers
  14. thanks flaps benm, i know this has been covered before but just remind me again how resetting the ecu will help?
  15. surely at least a few of you on here are racing! Got myself a helmet today, but the car seems to have a now-n-again miss... plugs havent been checked for a while, could be dodgy fuel.. oh well not too bothered, just really interested in a ballpark time for my car. benm; my car is in my avatar, dont really want to directly post my plates here, but they have been mentioned elsewhere on the forums. btw anyone know how long it would take me to get there from macquarie uni area? cheers
  16. hi dude, 250rwkw is no mean feat and should be fairly straight forward. you will need the fuel pump, a front mount, a clutch, and an programmable ECU. And of course a good free flowing exhaust and filter. You wont NEED the injectors and as you arent keen on spending heaps, just get a rising rate reg. Your gearbox will cope with the power fine. A 2535 may hit 250rwkw, the 2540 should definitly hit 250rwkw. But new they cost a bit, so you could always go second hand for ~2grand. Problem may be that the 2535 is a bit hard to find 2nd hand, and the 2540 people dont seem to like! I went to UAS the other week and looked at a band new Garret 3040 internal gate low mount that will bolt straight up, giving you the stock appearance you want. John at UAS will guarantee you will see 250rwkw, i think at around 1.2-1.3BAR, which you can run safely with the standard compression if the tune is good. UAS also insisted that this turbo was not laggy at all and gave excellent response. If your sure that 250rwkw is all you want, then thats the road i would take. Your best bet is ring UAS, they told me theyve sold, installed, and tuned many of these recently on R33's. Tried and tested, easiest way to go!
  17. i have no idea how long it takes, how many runs could i expect to get in?
  18. anyone interested in meeting up and cruising to this meet?
  19. i cant see a delete option in the edit page?
  20. on the subject of tyre pressures, i agree that letting pressure down helps in most cases, as it allows more sidewall flex, which leads to a bit more squat, which leads to a greater footprint and more traction, but what about on a 19inch tyre, where you have very little profile and little sidewall?? Has anyone dragged at the strip on 19's?? Id like to get out there soon, but only have 19's here, stockies still back in S.A.
  21. another thanks to sydneykid for all the advice, cheers Gary.
  22. thanks sideway, but surely that cant be stock!? as with the whiteline lowered springs the height is 345mmm! which would mean they are only 5mm lower!? perhaps your springs have sagged?
  23. come on guys there has to be someone with stock suspension?
  24. as shown in the link steve posted up the top, the HKS dyno graphs show the 2540 to really perform past 4000rpm, but loses out below that to the 2535. With cams to fill the midrange it looks like it could be a good street turbo, and im considering it as i like its top end, and my little 2530 strugles to get a good peak power figure!
