  1. Matt, have you checked out the Sparco Torinos? I checked out the cobras a while ago when i was buying seats and wasnt real impressed with the lateral support, i felt that the support bolsters were far too soft when compared to the recaros or sparcos. The cobras i looked at were on the floor at eurotech on port rd. I think they were daytonas. The Torinos also come in the colour scheme you want
  2. i saw the silver 34 4 door on rundle last night. I then saw the same dude today driving a sick dumped white GTR33! Is this guy on the forums?!
  3. hi drifto. The RB24 sounds cool, but i agree with the best bang for your buck being an rb25. This motor will do ~200rwkw in its sleep with the stock turbo and an aft. ECU, plus have good torque. You may even be able to use your old HKS turbo for more power. What turbo do you have?
  4. Just note that JV automotive is NOT the same JV crash that hippy doesnt reccommend!
  5. A million times!? haha, i only go up and down repeatedly if im looking for a park. I only park it where i can see it. If im cruising i wont do more than a couple of laps, depending on the level of roadside cafe talent- which by the way has been awesome lately!! I must be lucky, no hassle whatsoever with cops as yet (touch wood)!
  6. nicknick, be realistic. if your gonna not only cruise, but race on the streets, while making your car look like a prime defect target with the carbon bonnet, no plate etc, you really have no grounds to be saying "stupid cops". What do you expect them to do with a car that screams to them "DEFECT ME". If you dont want to be defected, use some smarts. 51jay has a point. btw i also dont get the point of leaving the front plate off ? if the cops are chasing you they are gonna be behind you anyway? also nicknick, are you on P's?
  7. i looked at buying 20's, but even the wheel guy advised against it, despite him able to make more bucks in the sale. He said i'd lose all ride quality. I ended up with 19's and am happy with them. just for your reference i have 19x8.5s on the front with 38 offset, and it is just right. I have the same on the rear but you can fit 10 inch rims with the right offset i was told.
  8. gee the search for sava tyres/tires reveals some nutty results! yes im bored. and drunk. 1050 sounds expensive for a tyre that is not recognised. considering for example you can get federal 235's for rrp ~225 each, and they are actually an excellent performing tyre even if they dont carry a 'big name'. How long before this thread is moved?
  9. groove 32, the 2530 will have MUCH MORE top end than the stock rb20 turbo, so dont worry about that!
  10. groove 32, if you have the stock turbo now, get a 2530 and you will be happy! You can rest assured you wont have a response problem with this turbo, and it is capable of making the rwkw that you want.
  11. rs500 this argument has been battled by Rev210 vs many! i dont know how the rated engine figure to rwkw figure on a chasis dyno works, but the rwkw figures quoted for the RB20/25's over here running these little HKS's are correct. its well known that a stock turbo can make ~200rwkw (roughly 280hp), yet isnt this turbo only rated to 300hp? so technically with drivetrain loss, it cant make 200rwkw, but it does. It could be the chassis dyno's readings or how they measure power. I dont know, i dont think an absolute answer was given the last time we all argued this point about turbo's rated power vs rwkw's!
  12. boosted: you could use the stock springs with the new shocks i suppose? i would do what i did and call the Aust. distributor for bilsteins and tell them your plan, and they will tell you how suitable it is. check out http://www.bilstein.com.au/ and call (02) 9516 1182. I wish i remembered the name of the guy i spoke to, as he was very helpful and answered all my questions plus more. i paid $270 for my set of kings "low" springs (1inch lowered) strutto: they werent special orders, i believe they are referred to simply as "Lows"! I then had a spring manufacturer here in adelaide reset them 20mm lower (this was before i realised that i could machine grooves in the shock housing!). Note this was purely for cosmetic reasons and is actually detrimental to handling, as to maintain 100% suspension travel the Whiteline guys say dont go lower than one inch. It might be a good idea to say here that everyones perception of what good handling/suspension is can be different! My car is a pure street car and i require it to handle like one, and get the most out of the roads it gets used on. Some people may like their street car to handle like a track car. I say this as the guy that bought my teins is happy with them! I would hate for someone to go and buy my setup and not be happy with it. I think the best idea is to organise a ride in a skyline with the suspension you are considering, if possible. With the forum as a base it shouldnt be too hard to catch up with ppl on a cruise etc. Jase: the bilstein guy said up to 2inches lowered would be fine for the shocks. My car actually turned out to be a bit lower than i expected, as i didnt measure for the resetting, just used a guestimate from a photo of how the car previously sat with those springs They dont have sport or sprint on the box, but i believe they are sport. My fronts are possibly almost getting up under the guards, and the rears are just under the guards. This is using 1inch lowered springs, reset another 20mm lower, so they should be just under 2 inches lower. This is also with 19's. here is a pic of the new ride height, technically yes it is too low, and if i put 4 people in the car it brushes the splash guards in the rear, the 275 19's probably dont help this either. With the upgrade sway bars and 2 people i only get light scrubbing of the plastic splash guards when pushing hard, which i find liveable with. Also i had to put a camber correction kit in the rear, as the insides of the rear tyres just rubbed on the spring seat. Now its fine. I would recommend an inch lower to be ideal, but then again i love that look
  13. not adjustable for damper, but if you get the right springs to start with, you wont need to adjust damper. read my bit in this this thread about adjustable dampers : http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...4767#post674767 they dont come with height adjustment, but the spring seat sits on a circlip on the shock body, and there is provision to machine grooves for this circlip up or down the body, so you can move the circlip and spring seat, and hence adjust height.
  14. hi guys, read my bilstein/kings springs review!! http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=33660 obviously if you can afford ohlins, then go for it, i also hear these are the best. As stated already above, ride height adjustability isnt all that great, i never adjusted mine... Also the damping control/adjustability isnt what a lot of people think. Just because a shock has 16way damping from hard to soft, doesnt mean you can set it soft one day for cruising and hard for though the hills. From talking with lots of suspension places i was told this more than once (the general gist):- "unless you have adjustable spring rates like on a race car, you dont need adjustable shock rates. You set the damper rate according to the spring rate you are running. If you decide to change the damper rate then you will either be over damping or underdamping. If you do put the settings to harder for firmer suspension, it will feel firmer, but this is not the way to do it" ive been the 2nd hand coilover route, and i personally wouldnt recommend it when you can get NEW suspension for similar money. Also said above, jap coilovers arent suited to aussie roads! I had heard this before i bought mine, but figured that so many people use them that it'd be ok. I found out the hard way!
  15. Hi guys, i have recently replaced my tein HA coilovers with brand new Bilstein shocks (as sold by UAS ~$900 a set) and Kings Springs (Lows, but reset another 20mm lower). Also added whiteline sway bars front and rear. I've had a chance to do some kays with the new suspension, and i will say that id never bother with used coilovers again. My concern is that you just dont know whats been done to them, regarding shock valving and spring tensions etc. My teins were off a drift car so i expected them to be firm, but they were unacceptable for me. The bilsteins are sweet as. The ride is very sporty and firm but still soaks up the bumps very nicely, and i am no longer bouncing around like im on a bus. The progressive rate of the springs in the rear probably help this a lot. I had all springs tested before i put anything in, just so i knew where i was. Stock springs are around 140lb's. The Kings are 180lb front, and 110/175lb progressive rate rears. I had detailed chats to the guys at bilstein who said the shocks are designed to work with ~25% stiffer springs, and that the Kings would suit them perfectly. The car is able to be driven harder, faster and more confidently due to the increased feel and control of the suspension. The teins i had were hard and skippy and didnt really soak up bumps, just bounced/skipped over them. Ive said in another thread that the ride quality is nearly as good as standard, but with better handling than the teins. Bottom line is that Jap coilovers were never designed for aussie roads, and for around the same price as a set of used coilovers you can get brand new shocks and springs, and a very nice handling car. The quality of the bilsteins is obvious when you lay them down next to the original shocks, which look weedy in comparison. Very happy with the new setup, highly recommended.
  16. from what ive read from the HPI project, this pipe should be changed when running over 1 bar. It just completely slipped my mind!
  17. paid 1800$ for my turbo with all accessories needed to fit bar a braided line. Apparently it was only a couple of thousand kms old, had it inspected also. Running std injectors but they peak at 80 odd % on the dyno, and 90 odd % on the street. Yes i need new injectors! also note that if you are getting an HKS turbo, the stock r33 dump isnt really suitable. There is not enough room for the wastegate (which can pretty much be seen from just looking at a stock dump!), and i had a fair bit of boost fluctuation.
  18. hi guys, im still sorting out my HKS 2530 and thought id throw in my thoughts.. i was either gonna do the high flow option from gcg or the 2530. I went the 2530 as i heard that the highflows were laggier and required more boost for the same power as the HKS. I dont know if this is true, but rumours do steer purchases! Also i wanted the HKS name part under the bonnet!! Initial tune had 227.5rwkw at 1.2 bar, with the AFM maxing out, and a stock dump pipe. I whacked on a brand new HKS split dump and brand new z32 AFM, and dropped 3.5rwkw, bringing me to about 224rwkw on the same dyno! I was frustrated, as i expected a good 10rwkw more. The problem was obvious, the source of the problem wasnt so obvious. The problem was that boost would rise to 1.2 bar, then drop steadily down to 1bar, giving me no hope of a better peak power figure. The problem it now seems, is that the rubber intake tube sucks shut. I dont know why it didnt do it before the dump and AFM, but its doing it now! Waiting to fit a new pipe in between the AFM and the turbo then go back to the dyno. i dont have torque figures on my dyno printouts but from memory the new dump and afm i picked up something like 50nm extra torque at the wheels. I just have less top end for the time being. The point of relevance to this thread should probably be that the midrange torque increase from this size turbo is more important than its peak power. At the moment i only have 24rwkw more than i had with the stock turbo, but the car feels twice as quick to drive, even shifting at 6000rpm. Jump back into a 200rwkw stock turbo r33 and it feels like a slug! go the torque! cant wait to get mine peaking at the top end though.. i will continue my GT2530 Results thread once i get it sorted.
  19. hi sydneykid! im using yokohama s306's. 245/35/19 front 275/30/19 rear.
  20. ok ok.. factor in i have 19inch rims, i think that means that my speedo now under-reads, am i correct? I think also the faster i go, the more it will under read? im not sure. The rims are a good deal taller than the stock wheel/tyre combo. So in fact i may have been doing ~250 but the FC only showing 226... i dont know where the FC gets its speed reading from, but it matches the speedo on the dash pretty much exactly. sydneykid, if you are correct, with my tall wheels at 6500rpm, that wouldve put me close to the 270 mark?!!??
  21. Busky2k, an article in zoom showed tim at RPM testing the std cooler showing there to be a substantial pressure difference. 1 to 1.5psi pressure drop may be present when running stock boost, but up the boost, and watch the pressure difference. Pump a bar through the std cooler and there will heaps more than 1.5psi drop over the cooler. I remember the article stating they saw 20 maybe 22psi before the cooler to get 12psi at the manifold. sweetr33, i know heat kills turbos, but in the case of std r33 turbo's i believe its actually shaft 'speed' (hence boost) that we have to watch out for. As with these turbos, failure is commonly due to the delaminating of the exhaust wheel.
  22. had the car at about 6500rpm in fifth** and the FC controller was saying 226km/hr, so i assume my top speed to be maybe 235ish. I thought it would go much faster than this somehow! I was speaking to a guy in a yellow CV8 monaro number plate VOODOO in S.A. who told me he topped out at 270km/hr, with 204rwkw. Is this possible? if so i imagine its coz of the long legged 6th gear. Has anyone else got a speed for the top of fifth? (come on you've all been there!) **under controlled conditions on a private road also i was surprised at how smooth and stable the car was at this speed.
  23. jason888 im not sure about your other questions, but yes the gtst box will be fine, apart from maybe needing a better clutch. The 33gtst gearbox ive heard is very similar internally to the gtr box.
  24. ive since been told that the car is/was YLQQK. i see your points rob! as the first question anyone asks a dealer is something like "whats the lowest cash price?" which usually instantly slashes 5grand off the sticker price.
  25. mat, i thought 7krpm in 4th was 180?
