Importing R32 GTR's under SEVS
predator replied to jonn's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
whoever is paying over $10k for an rb26dett engine build is getting ripped.. I don't see why an RB26dett engine build is too much more difficult than an rb25det build or anything else, except the prestige status attached to these engines. -
just get a 33 s1 and spend the difference over a s2 on modifications..
-
mate, if you have money.. compliance would not be a problem i am sure.. Even if it just sat in a showroom, or was used as a promo car for a well-to-do workshop I am sure it would pay for itself. Hell you could charge *admittance* fees at $10 a pop to look at it, and you'd be making money off it..
-
yes, i am still cleaning the stains off my seat after seeing that one.. still $90k - bargain.. only twice the price of a good stock GTR really.. and well compared to a ferrari on the cheap side.. somebody will easily have the money to spend on something like that.
-
haha.. being a supra you probably can fit 295's on there no worries. p.s. still love the car robin - even carries heaps of computer gear with erm, lots of fiddling around..
-
p.s. wlecome to last decade nick ska: smart ass reply, but nice ..

I NEED $90,000 NOW!!! anybody??
-
you work in mysterious ways sometimes Ni .. thats all i can say I can see this car being passed around the local market quicker than a whore at a bachelor party.. Can't wait to see some awesome pics of it.. but on the road, boy.. its not like it won't be attracting attention! I assume you're getting it past engineering and the like fine, but how the hell you are I don't know - you must have some good connections

olleh what is news?

Hey HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUYS and GALS sounds like james wants something....
-
many 400hp cars use stock coil packs.. probably even greater on GTR. there is nothing wrong with them if they are working correctly.
-
in VIC i got flashed.. oncoming, AND the other lane.. so it can happen..

yeah, definitely.. interesting actually, as my car, whilst technically bought through one of the bigger names, really has passed through a supplier over in japan. The supplier had in fact already purchased the car, pretty much on behalf of xxxxx in australia. The broker is really just relying on the details that supplier has passed on. So yeah, i'm kind of hoping that the supplier is not leaving any vital details out and is trustworthy. And I have to take the brokers word that he is trustworthy.. so there is a long chain. Again, that is where i think some of the "big names" are more likely to have better connections and do things more efficiently than some of the smaller guys.

Thing is, no, they're not out to endanger that reputation, but at the end of the day, most of these companies are import *brokers*. This basically means, they are doing some small facilitation to get the car into your hands which you might not otherwise have the skills or knowledge to be able to do that successfully. They are not buying the cars for you, much of the time they are not even able to inspect the cars for you - they are helping, you the buyer, purchase these cars from overseas with their knowledge and experience behind them. Things can and will often go wrong, and expecting them to be all knowing and all seeing is a little ridiculous. In the end its really up i think a lot of the time for the buyer to check the auction reports, ask the right questions, and do their own research a bit. Some expect everything to be done for them and for the broker to cover every single base and for them to get that "perfect" car that they want for $5-10k cheaper than they could get locally. If that is the case, and you still want from japan there are those more specialist "importers" (as opposed to "brokers" in my definition) that will go over there, will spend the time, and personally select a great car for you... or you may in fact find one of these some of the more respected dealer lots in Australia later on. But the key is, you pay more for this privlege, it may take several months longer and you may (or still may not!) get a better car. Anyhow, I think that is where some get a little confused. In the end, if you ask me, if a person gets a car that you are disappointed with, you only have to blame yourself a little. To expect every single 15 year car (or otherwise) to come from japan in perfect "as new" condition is a little optimistic. And it all comes down to the great saying that says you cannot hope to please every person 100% of the time... Here comes a controvercial one.. i bet you bottom dollar most of these "reports" of people getting "ripped off" or "very unhappy" are young inexperienced guys expecting all the fruit for an unrealistically cheap price like they've seen in a car mag. It may be their first import car, and all they can afford and hence why they're importing. But in the end, considering the amount of cars coming into the country now, and the flurry b4 the end of the 15 year rule - its always going to be a small, but very vocal minority. I feel a bit sorry for them, but then again I don't.

EOI Swap my R33 GTR for car of lesser value
predator replied to PranK's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
mid 40cents or mid $40 dollars ? -
just changing the exhaust system to a larger unit.. opening up the air inlet with a pod or better panel filter should give you a good start.. then you can consider ecu remap or S-AFC.. then extractors. after that mb different cams, and porting the head a little (if you want to go that far into it). Could change the diff if its a manual to auto diff to give u a bit more acceleration off the line. you have to remember though that the more mods (even if n/a) the more insurance will slug you, especially if you are a p-plater. maybe just keeping it stock for a while might be easiest (even if its just for a year)

price of all 1989 cars has gone up it looks.. and the only ones left are the bodgy looking ones.. THere were never a massive amount to begin with, and the good ones have been snapped up already. well i am about to purchase mine in japan. Found what i wanted.. which is a 32 in black which is in excellent condition throughout. only downer (for some) is that its auto, but i am planning an rb25det gearbox conversion and then taking the engine out sometime next year anyhow - so this is no worries at all for me. Autos seem to be better condition, less modified, less hacked for the most part. Apparently as its a September build it goes to the shipping yard pretty much now once i have made the FOB payment. And this is where it sits until early Sept when i apply for an import improval. Once that is approved it can come on the first available ship to Brisbane. But as i find out more i'll post what i find out I guess

R31 engine swap, SR20 or RB20?
predator replied to Dori's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
rb30et.. torque wins.. -
most i have seen look pretty hacked.. and the older ones are supercharged rather than turbo charged. if u can fit a rb25det into an mr2 i'll give u a million dollars.
-
yeah.. i reckon if you did you'd get an EPA notice just for dumping his putrid carcass in a river somewhere and polluting the environment with his absolute s.hit..
-
must have been trying hard to get busted for speeding in the south island.. cops were so rare you'd almost stop and point at them. lol @ pooski and the previus / tarago.. we had one of them too a couple of years back when we were over there. Thing copped a caining - sounds exactly the same as we were doing over there "hey cool, lets see how fast we can get over that one way bridge before that other car comes" ahh, memories.
-
its in nz.. **** nz.. don't worry about it.. my uncle has a crap load of ones in Australia.. he just leaves and never pays them. never has had any trouble.
