  1. Yeah, that's what annoys me about these sorts of tests - they list it, but don't tell you why, or whether it will really degrade your purchase. But at the end of the day, it's your money, plenty of r33 around. A workshop is never a bad choice, as they look at the car compared to others of that type and has seen maybe 50 R33 and can tell you whether it's the same, worse, or better than other R33 they have seen. RACQ is more for the "safe purchase" above all else, those that would never look an R33 anyhow, and go for a Commodore, Pulsar, etc. p.s. I'm not sure what a "power balance" is either!
  2. Ok, I'll expand: They have to be a sealed battery, due to the strange config of the R33 boot. It's cheaper to fit a non-ventilated battery, but having gas escape in an enclosed space is a no-no. $150 problem to fix I would say by getting a proper enclosed battery. coolant is dirty, or not the official nissan coolant. I doubt this means much, but it *may* mean signs of poor servicing recently. It on it's own is not enough to kill an engine over 12 months. 2-3+ years sure. From what I gather a lot of japanese are not sure what 'coolant' is. They all do that.. nissan had a poor design on the polycarbonate headlights on the r33.. they all get moisture in there a little if left overnight outside, etc. The rb25 fan isn't great 11 years on.. afterall it's plastic, and spins at xxx rev's per minute x 11 years. Plastic tends to degrade a little after that time. My daily driver exhibits similar problems, it's simply age. Depends which areas they are talking about.. rocker cover gaskets aren't too expensive. Engines get old after 10 years, they leak a little where they can. in my experience, after 10 years, the rb engines nearly always leak at the power steering pump, original hoses get old, hose clamps losen. I fixed a power-steering leak on my car simply by fitting proper hose clamps and retightening. If it's near the rack, likely the rack is going.. pull off the boots and check carefully. A few spots is ok.. rack pissing significant amounts of oil requires replacement rack = $800 or so with fitting. Possibly timing belt tensioners or timing belt is getting past 100k mark (re: it hasn't done 80k/km, thats almost impossible in a 11 year old car, driven "once week" in japan or otherwise)... 100k service will pretty much guaranteed fix that problem, and is recommended anyhow. Not quite sure exactly what that means, if it means "valve train noisey", yes, all nissan engines have a noisey drive-train, especially after 11 years. Blow-by from pistons. Most turbo engines around 10 years do that. It's really the amount that is significant. My daily driver has "oil around intake" (i.e. enough to put finger and notice). It has done 280,000km, and it drives fine, and has another 50,000km or more in it. probably mistuning, poor choice of spark plugs, dead coil packs, or other mucking about. Not end of the earth - a massive number of rb25 do that .. type in "r33 misfiring" and "all dates" and you'll get like about 5 years of posts on the topic. Most importantly.. does it have a compression test? That will be a kicker on the "buy" or "no buy" to me. Sure 10 years ago I would have not bought a car that had a mechanics test report such things as above. I've now learned enough to know a little better.
  3. sounds about standard for an old r33, they're picky.. too much intake oil could be a worry. sorry, but it hasn't done 80,000km
  4. paying for your games? who would have thought! But it's a difficult one to enforce in people's minds.. when you buy something it is "yours", and you can choose to sell it to somebody else later on. It would be like buying a tshirt, or car, and then later on being told "no sorry you can't sell it, that would cost us money" But as Arkon is saying, I am sure there are plenty of other things they are considering - in the end-goal of making as much money as possible. That's sony for you. They make stupid mistakes, but surely not that stupid.. surely? That is at least the beauty of having 3 main players at the moment, it stops Sony from going ahead and doing stupid things such as that. Imagine if there was only Sony in the market. They'd be able to do that sort of thing and people would have no alternative.
  5. good point... or in fact 3/4 of the parts for the "Australian" VE commodore that come from Korea and other SE Asian parts suppliers I read somewhere that the new commodore is actually the "least australian" ever, in terms of parts that come from Australian suppliers
  6. The threshhold for this is $57,000.. meaning that if these BMW's came in into the country under these prices, the tax would not be applied. They don't. The cost is in the shipping and extra cost to make the car applicable to the Australian market, which pushes it over $57k. I am not sure if that is really applicable to this argument, that "we'd all be driving BMW's if holden didn't exist".
  7. call me silly, however I believe the cars somehow have to get from Germany to Australia - but yes, they do get slapped with extra tax.
  8. of course it's the best car ever, I read it in the paper... if your don't believe so you're UNAUSTRALIAN!!!! But seriously, let them go for it if you ask me. It keeps a few people in jobs, who might otherwise be out of work. Keeps marketing companies getting richer. Keeps television networks in business via television advertising, etc. It's still good for the country.
  9. There will be no standard ps2 memory card slot on the ps3, so guess what.. while the games may be compatible, you'd be starting again. Unless they (or others) of course released an external ps2 card reader, quite probable - but more cost. I've never understood this backward compatibility quest anyhow, about 90% of owners will own an old ps2 (which would be worth nothing to sell to get any money back), so I can't see any real advantage of using the ps3 to play your old games. It might upsample the graphics as best it can to hdtv, but the effect can't be too great.
  10. I don't believe legally they can refuse to honour a warranty if you have opened the case. If the thing is obviously damaged due to your own actions (flashing, etc), then they can refuse it.
  11. oh.. I've got 1 .. standard 2 1/4 gutted.. $20.. goldcoast.. 0417 016 326.. call me
  12. Justjap has silicone jobbies for about $140 for both the main radiator ones. Nissan has them too, but the prices are expensive.. few week from japan for some hoses, etc. Nissan still is your best bet though, as most are custom bends and generic hoses won't really work for that. I bought a couple of small breather hoses, and they were like $30 each shipped from japan. Nissan quoted me $90 about each piece x 4 for the heater hoses on the back of an rb25 To save money, it's just mix and match with other aussie sold nissans or other cars... but it's painful process. There is no real cheap way to get them all replaced, but if you want to spend some money it's definitely worthwhile.
  13. All sellers are different as to what they expect and tolerate.. and maybe that works for you... But to me that would just erk me, and most of my friends have experienced the same (not selling skylines, any cars). My mate's favourite comment "if they start talking price before they've even seen the car - instant time waster". How do you even know what price to offer unless you have seen the car? It could look brilliant in photos but be an absolute piece of shit when you see it in person. Engine f**ked, gearbox f**ked, whatever. Making an offer at that time is just not a smart decision from the buyer's perspective either. Yes, you are the buyer and you have an advantage with a lot of cars to choose from.. but the seller puts a price on it for a reason. He can come down if he wants, but *assuming* he will want to is just being presumptious, if not rude. Even worse still, is buyers getting angry if the seller won't drop their price. It's worse on Internet forums, because nobody has the testicles to pick up the phone and ask (probably because they know what the answer will be to their lowball offer).. it's easier to send off PM's, emails, or whatever, as there is no personal contact, and hope one seller may, possibly be willing to deviate on the price.
  14. oops.. getting mixed up with the AWD reference on the last page. Even if while they are FWD, I'd say they would have a lot of stability tricks your 10 year old FWD wouldn't have though.. I don't think you can claim "oh no torque steer", a lot has been done to overcome this in FWD. FWD loss of traction can be just as dangerous to somebody who doesn't know what to do in such a situation.
  15. I would say most cars out there that read a magical >100,000km have done well over 200,000km anyhow, the owners just don't know it.
  16. The weight of these things these days really does push them away from being a real 'pocket rocket', and that goes for the MPS and XR5. After all, they weigh nearly as much as your average R33...
  17. I suggest you go back to england with all the other whiney twats.
  18. I actually thought FEAR was incredibly repeditive... same bad guy for pretty mcuh the *entire* game.. and the same stuff for hour after hour. I kept persisting until the end, but I didn't really want to - just because I had bought it I guess. oh yeah.. sequel? http://www.slicedgaming.com/news9382.html
  19. just ring him and ask him.. I'm sure he can come out to do it to the dealer. If the dealer is uncomfortable with somebody doing it, then well, you'd be wary anyhow. Gold coast dealers anyhow Just don't let the dealer say "I'll organise it for you".
  20. send boostn32 a pm, good bloke.. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...;hl=compression
  21. To test if its the o2 sensor.. remove the o2 sensor plug. Car will work fine without it. Just won't run in closed loop mode, and you'll use more petrol. Its something like the o2 sensor immitantly sends faulty signals the ecu has problems. But if you remove it totally you can isolate the problem a bit more closely. I'm not sure how you test the CAS, you'd need to monitor the voltage signals, or use the consult connector to see what's going on. Also when it does fail, stop the car, and put the ecu in fault mode, and it should flash the sequence for the last thing that failed.
  22. Really just for saving extra data, and some of the online games will require larger space for download. Online will be a lot more of a focus on the new systems. Also things like downloading music, smaller games, videos, trailers, previews, and other things that Sony and Microsoft are / planning on pushing through. The console is just the first step to them taking over the position of the TV and to a less extent, some of the functions of your PC (downloading movies, listening to music, chatting to friends, etc). The majority of gamers are between the ages of 20 and 35 these days, so its not really teenage stuff. Afterall, its only a few teenagers can afford $600+ for a console. Teenagers watch big brother
  23. I'd do it any night but friday or saturday nights.. lol
  24. yeah, sounds like they have been tightened to death.. as the torque on them is not stupid. I removed my old auto flywheel with just a standard breaker. Tightening them too much can actually have the opposite effect, they stress, and can fracture. Fractured flywheel bolts can get very nasty. Don't over tighten when you do put it back on. The torque settings are in the service manual (that cannot be asked for.. )
