Stagea - Idle increasing when brake is pressed !
BensDR30 replied to Jay95R33's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
The idle on my RS4 occasionally drops to around 600 instead of the usual 700 (which makes it stumble when accelerating from a standstill). It has also been known to hunt between 700-800 when in N (like the AAC is oscillating). I think a clean-up might be in order.... It is perfectly normal for the rpm to flare slightly when depressing the brake - but no more than a few hundred rpm max. If you pump the brakes repeatedly you should be able to get the engine to hover around 1000rpm. It will then settle back down when you stop (handy for old cars that have dodgy chokes!). -
Huzzah - an answer!!! I've looked throught the parts data & noticed that the cct for this switch has a relay & wiring to each main light assembly but I'd be buggered if I could see anything happening. Time to turn it on & (hopefully!) see some results. The switch on the RHS of the column on the dash is a wiper de-icer. It heats the lower part of the front & rear screens to prevent you tearing the wiper rubbers off when the window is iced up. It has a 15-minute timer built in (as does the demister). Next question please!

My DR30 lights are great - have you guys checked the aim? My old MR30 lights were pretty good too & I thought that the DR would be worse, but I can't say that it is.

Saft - can we see some shots of the actual cooler mounting position, clearances, etc? as I'm considering fitting a GT-R cooler to mine.

The Adelaie Cable Company (23 Naweena Rd Regency Park 5010 (08) 8347 1944) will make custom cables. I've had brand new cables made for my Z and my dad has had new speedo & handbrake cables made for his 510 & SP310. The DR30 cables will be the same as the RMR30 hatch or MR30 Ti.

When did Skylines become FI?
BensDR30 replied to Alfadog's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
And just to add another twist - the 610 (180B) was available in 1973 with EFI. -
I'm not 100% sure who you're replying to there (if indeed it is a specific reply ), but the HR30 is (originally) an L20A not an RB20 and the DR30 with a 3.90:1 is not 100% happy in 4th@60km/h. The option 4.11:1 is certainly a more suited ratio for around-towning. I have no concern for highway rpm's in my DR30 - that's what the Stagea is for, and I only have 3.90 & 4.375 LSD's so the 4.375 is going in. I'll certainly provide feedback on the success of the conversion in regards to city driving, power delivery & economy when it's done. Ghostrider, I might be able to find you a 4.375 R200 LSD - I'll get back to you.

Hi & welcome to our (fast growing!) collection of Stagea owners. Get your owners manual from http://www.jpnz.co.nz My RSFourV will lock up the converter at speeds as low as 55km/h (or thereabouts), but only in ideal cruising conditions. It's a far more intelligent shift pattern that a lot of cars I've driven. 100km/h rpms are around 2200 I think. However, the lockup is almost not noticable to the occupants, the only way to be certain is to gently squeeze the throttle open a few % and notice the lack of rpm flare.

The air filter is the same as most modern Nissans & Subarus. eg Silvia (S12 onwards, Skyline (R30 onwards), WRX, Legacy etc...

Nooooooooooooooo................

Patience oh driver of fine Nissan wagon I'll have my C34 workshop manuals soon enough & then all will be revealed. I'm also expecting a fully translated owners manual any day now & that better bloody tell me what the 'Light Reduce' switch does....

Indeed, I think Lachlan was having an off day & you know more about this kind of thing than both of us.... PS G'day Alan - didn't see you lurking there! -
Overheating RB26 saga, more info, help!
BensDR30 replied to underground's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
A CO (not CO2) test is a check of the coolant for carbon monoxide. If there is CO in the coolant then combustion gases are leaking past the head gasket. A coolant pressure test does not guarantee a result one way or the other. Only a leak-down test puts a 'reasonable' amount of pressure in the cylinder & allows you so sustain that pressure for long enough to determine the condition of the engine. -

BensDR30 replied to underground's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Get a leak-down test done too, that will identify failing cylinders. 140 psi is pretty low for an RB-turbo. *EDIT* Just had a look at the RB26DETT engine specs, compression should be 12.0 bar @ 300rpm = 174psi. Lower limit value is 9.0bar @ 300rpm = 130psi. Your engine is sailing close to the lower limit there.... 99C is far too hot, something around 88-93 range is more like it. 97C when on a dyno at full noise with poor airflow.... -
Indeed, 'Hi' from Adelaide!

Lachlan, you disappoint me! The C210 was available as a GT-Turbo with ECCS (digital) EFI, as well as the analogue system. One of the first EFI Nissans was the LY25 fitted to the 240Z in 1973, but that was experimental not production. Here's a couple of C211's; http://www.autozebra.co.jp/zaiko/neonos/20.../neonos6825.htm http://www.autozebra.co.jp/zaiko/neonos/20.../neonos6608.htm -
Standard Nissan colours....

If that's the car I think it is, it's been in Adelaide for about 2 years. originally imported by Viper Motorsport & subsequently shuffled around various importer yards. If so, the interior has had a hard life - the car was broken into & the Sat Nav was stolen & the dash damaged. It's also had the crap thrashed out of it!
-
Excellent! I shall investigate this upgrade in the near future.
-
True. There are plenty of very boring looking modified cars out there I throw all my spare cash at my Z.... I'm sure in time I'll modify my Stagea - a front-mount would probably be the first port of call. But for now I'm enjoying it as is!
-
No dramas with the MC, proportioning or ABS? (I am experienced in brake work, but it's easier to ask now than try to fix a known issue later).
-
They do exist, but I've only seen a couple of genuine auto RS Skylines. Perhaps the S12 Silvia would be a more likely source of automatic engines?
-
Nah, it's the designated daily-driver. My Z is heavily modded, my DR is a little & my wallet & prevention-of-attention (theft-wise) sense is telling me to keep the Stagea 'looking boring' & not standing out. Ask me again after I've finished paying for my 450HP Z motor & re-trimmed the DR (ie in a few years time!)
-
Good luck finding an auto FJ..... I thought I found one a while back, but it was a flying pig with hens teeth!

Ok people, I think I've narrowed down the cause of the 'clicking' coming from the rear of the car (left & right it seems).... Examining the wheel area when moving the car under power reveals 2 things: 1. The pads move in the caliper (as suspected). 2. The caliper flexes on the caliper pins. I believe that the latter is the cause of the noise - the friend who helped me on this reported that his rally car (fitted with R30 discs/calipers) used to make the same noise. There was NO WAY it was bearings/mounts/bushes/diff on his car & I have thouroughly inspected my car & discovered no loose or noisy components. So, my thoughts are to possibly fit replace the factory sliding calipers with some R33 2-spots (and perhaps fit 4-spots on the front). Are the rear (and front) discs compatible? And has anyone else fitted GTS25t brakes to their C34? PS - I've also got a translated owners manual on the way, which should explain the 'light reduce' function. The switch on the right side of the column is also most likely the side-mirror de-ice controls.
