Well guys my effort this month hasn't been nearly the grade that you folks do. Please feel free to give me some tips and pointers. I went to WTAC this year with the focus on getting a few good shots. I found the night photography/panning especially tricky to get the settings right. I figured the only way to learn is to keep working at it until I find some things that start to work. My panning skills are nearly up to snuff with you fellas so at night every little wobble really throws the focus. I feel like I learned a bit but wow - really get an appreciation for the guys that can get those extra extra clear night panning shots.

Could all the listings be viewed on line? Then yes!

+1 to that Pete! You're my new favorite wrecker (I mean that in the nicest sense of the word )

So, I've always had a personal dislike for cordless tools. Why? Becuase you end up getting duplicates of all your tools and the batteries only ever last a few years. I have power tools that are 12 years old and only because I had to go 240v when I moved to AUS! I Love this idea! God I hope that Black & Decker releases it here! http://blackanddecke...ar-tool-system/

Hey Chris, We just were at Bunnings in Artarmon and they had a Kinchrome tool chest that was about 2 m high by 3 wide with an inbuilt car audio system and wait for it... .. a mini Bar fridge in the lower compartment! All it needed was a keg tap out of one of the drawers and it would have been perfect! Nice way to spend $2.4k though.

Ok, who's had to resort to making their own tool to get a job done? Come on, bring out the coat hangers, extra bolts and washers, zip ties (maybe that's cheating) and electrical tape. When you have to get a job done, you've got to get it done, right? So I had a recent episode that took me three days to get the harmonic balancer off the GTR. My home grown tool ended up doing the trick (with a bit of welding on the balancer though). Vimeo doesn't like to embed so have to click the link - but I documented some of the eventful portions of this epic tool build. Watch the "Movie" here:

Agree that upkeep will be problem but if we self patrol then might be ok. Having the listing date is key to that. Also, if someone was looking for a part and contacted someone with a listing that A) wasn't contactable anymore or B) had already sold the part then they (buyer) remove it from the list. I too like to deal locally and try to inspect/pick up. I was just thinking cause I have so many stock parts that I'll never use from car.

I was just browsing the for sale section and came up with this idea. See what people think. We all love our cars, but face it most are a decade or two old. There are places like Skyline Spares and others that have parts but what if we started a community wrecking yard? Now we all have spare parts lying around that can be sold but we're too lazy to deal with the for sale section (well I do). Idea: Set up a Google Doc spread sheet that we put our spare parts into - we all share the same doc. If someone is looking for a part they can go there first to see if there are any locals in NSW that have the parts they need. If someone buys it they or the seller removes it from the list. Format: Car Make/Year/Model Part Description Brand (thanks for the suggestion) Price Contact Forum Name & Real Name Contact number/email Listing Date What do people think?

Gtr Awd Torque Split Controllers
Pezhead replied to MountainRunner's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Thanks for posting this up. I picked up one of your Ruzic controllers from a forum member here. I haven't found the time to install it but I'm particularly keen to hear your views on the best way to measure and configure it at a track day. I have a QStarz GPS for data logging as I also love understanding the data you get from the track in learning scientifically in addition to "Seat of the pants". It's great that you're sharing the info with the community. Looking forward to updates. -
Nick I love how you caught the other photographer with his lens cap on! Doh!

Noice Owen! So spewing I missed out. Hopefully will have GD2ILA back up and running again soon though.

Found these in a bag when I was working out in the garage. I totally forgot I bought them. Neat little thumb 1/4" ratchet drivers for hex tips. Comes with a hex to 1/4" adapter too for 1/4" sockets. Also, since I've been making so many trips to Bunnings I picked up a 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 combo stubby ratchet. Is a cheapy (Craftright - who's heard of that name) but does 3/8 out one end and 1/4 stacked on top of 1/2 out the other. I needed a stubby 1/4 & 3/8 to throw in the toolbox. Good all rounder.

When editing I assume you mean just clipping - right? Streamclip (freebie) can do that and maintain the H.264 Mpeg4 codec the GoPro uses. It's only basic but will do clipping. Be sure to stay on an MPEG4 code - H.264 is best right now, or else xvid or divx. H.264 will produce the best looking video with the smallest size but may take longer to encode. The GoPro in 50/60 frames progressive is ahead of the standards right now. There isn't really an Official standard that does that framerate in HD. Hence why I recommend streamclip if you just want to clip them down. For full on video editing I use Corel VideoStudio Pro X. Does everything I need and more and only $120 on line. For YouTube and Vimeo I usually create a 720P file in DivX format with a reasonable bitrate. Still a couple hundred megs for a few minutes but looks so much better now that everyone has big monitors and broadband.

+1 the orginal GoPro HD's came default average metering. I had to turn spot metering on. The down side is that the cabin will be much darker. But when shooting in a dark environment with bright outside you have to "tell" the device what you want to do. The "Dot" that Nick said is pretty much in the centre of the picture that is used to read how much light and therefore what exposure setting to use. When you aim it just be sure the centre of the frame goes out the windscreen. If you have editing software you can usually bring down the exposure a bit as long as there's still a bit of detail (not washed out or all white). The colors and contrast won't be as good but will give a bit more detail.

Pezhead replied to Marsss's topic in Events Archive
Nice starburst filter there Sean! Also good and crisp for night shots. Sorry I missed out folks, just too worn out from the work week and Pizza isn't on the approved list yet - too many carbs Looks like it was fun. -
GoPros are on their way with DekA (Matthew). Have fun guys and report back in. I have to live vicariously through you folks for now.

Anyone wanting a spot - mine is up for grabs to. GTR is playing "Hard to Get" with the harmonic balancer. My spot is up bidder that's closest to the original entry fee.

Zebra, I've still got my Craftsman tools I brought with me from the states (moved here 12 years ago). They are really good quality tools and REALLY cheap by comparison to Aus prices on tools. Interesting how the "notches" in the socket are set up. Must capture the tips of the hex head between the two radius ridges.

Anybody else getting really excited? Just a reminder what it's like (Sorry - Vimeo embed doesn't work here)
