  1. only reason the gtr is out of the question is due to power/weight laws where as with the rb20, you can drive them legally on plates in victoria.. and the mods i have chosen arent stand out recognisable ones hance r33 turbo, painted black front mount etc
  2. thanks for the reply, but not really what i was after... i said i couldnt have an r33 gts-t due to power reasons and the police... an r32 gtr isnt going to be any different! i cant have an rb26 for this reason.. hence why i want to work the rb20 for some power i dont have the money to go screwing around with the engine itself, eg hybrid engines... thats why i want to look into good efficient bolt ons -Ruffels
  3. hey everyone.. i know this is going to be another one of those "how much power will this b" type of thread, but im new to rb20's and i was wondering about their true potentials ive recently "downgraded" from my r33 gts-t, so going form rb25det, to rb20det i find the power decrease and acceleration to be quite a downstep i was just wondering what i can do to the rb20 to make it a fair bit more powerful, however im just concerned with bolt ons, not serious engine work basically what i have is a stock as a rock 1993 r32 gts-4, allthough this one has a gtr gearbox, well basically gtr everything as far as running gear goes, but it has rb20det motor and gts-t brakes! i dont know how this will go, and if someone else can think of better modifications, however i am leaning towards the folowing modifications (keeping in mind the reason i downgraded was due to police busting me driving the r33 and you can only have r32 on p's as far as turbo skylines go in victoria), so the mods cant stand out like dogs balls, they have to be dicrete 1. 3" turbo back exhaust 2. black front mounted intercooler with pipes that return underneath cooler and use standard pipes 3. r33 gcg highflowed turbo running 16psi (can they run more?) fits under standard heatshield? 4. gtr 440cc injectors 5. gtr fuel pump 6. z32 afm 7. retuned factory ecu i asume what i have chosen as far as mods are concerned will all work sufficently on the rb20 with minimal lag will the standard internals be able to cope with this much presure? what sort of flywheel/rear wheel/all whell kw's would i be looking at with those sort of mods thanks guys -Ruffels
  4. labour is usually about $300 and then clutch depends if you replace it with a stock one, or with a heavy duty one also its spelt "thanks" or "thank you"
  5. you'd be supprised that it might actually be the connections on the ectual window switch itself mine died too and it was a case of remove switch, unsolder everything, clean it will electircal contact cleaner, and resolder the wires back in -Ruffels
  6. with those exact mods and (245/40/18's) i got a 14.241 at calder on a very hot night so with the wide tyres, a good driver, and a colder night you should be able to pull 14 flat! -Ruffels
  7. hmm interesting comments here... i knew back when i was 13 that my parents wouldnt be buying me a car... so i thought if i want a good car.. i better start saving early.. i started saving for my r33 when i was 14.. and bought it when i was 17 and a half ... worth every hour i slaved over those hot cookers ay kfc! unfortunatly the po' po' (cops) agreed with most of you in that i didnt have the experience with driving it... and that they would forbid me to drive it especially under the power/weight laws... so now i have an r32 still great car... but not the car i worked hard for... moral of the story... do your research before you buy a car coz most likely you'll be told you cant have it in one shape or another lol /end bitter and twistedness all of my mates parents bought them cars... but i think for the year i had my r33.. it was the best year of my life but back on topic.. i have no problems with parents buying kids first cars... i just think they arent doing them any favours -Ruffels
  8. ive had something similar to this.. except on a big 3 lane round about... all lanes go straight, and left lane has choice of left or striahgt, middle lane striaght only, and right lane straight or right... very easy concept.. aswell as this.. there are MARKED lanes.. so when you drive through the round about you stay INSIDE your own lane... mr 70 year old in lexus next to me (middle lane) decided that he doesnt have to turn to keep inside his lane.. instead he'll keep his steering wheel centred and continue to cross into my lane (inside lane) and nicely cuting me off forcing me to mash brakes,... thank god for ABS i say.. and only jsut clipping my freshly painted 400R kit on the round about curb.... lucky there wasnt anyone behind me.. because he was oblivious to the fact he had even cut me off, let alone the fact that his poor driving could have sparked a multicar pile up... <_< fool
  9. hmmm i havent looked into it too much as i dont drive the car anymore... im just getting it ready for sale... however i had a quick look the other day.. starter motors only usually have 2 bolts holding them in.. bit tricky coz its on the side of the bell housing .. running next to the gearbox im fairly sure only way to do it is from below! i'll give it a crack and let you know how i go shouldnt be too hard.. i replaced the starter motor on my old rwd 626 lol -Ruffels
  10. yup my 33 just started doing that... Exactly the same noise as you are describing.. im planning on removing mine and giving it a nice grease up
  11. mmm mine is like that
  12. up like a burrrr/whuuurrrr sound in neutral... (not touching clutch pedal)... and then a sort of whine/whur sound all through the gears.. and you can hardly hear it in 4th/5th
  13. thats really good dude i ran only 14.2 at calder a couple of months back! with 3" catback, front mount, pod, running 10psi with gfb bleed vavle on 18's aswell and an Xtreme button clutch so thats really good.. allthough i seemed to get a better top speed then you as i pulled a 14.2 @ 101mph ... i dont know why if you got a better time.. i think my launches were really lacking? what sort of launch teqniques were you trying.. i tried everything from dump to slow ride outs
  14. hmm ive dealt with him ( a while back now) but he was fine.. quick, easy, no drama's....
  15. fark me.. i just had a look on redbook lol 2005 sportivo corollas are 118kw/tonne hahah thats only 7kw below the limit... they would be little pocket rockets
  16. yes because 5 stud indicated turbo, where as non turbos are 4 stud.. however.. that only applies for R33 and upwards as R32 gts-t's are under the limit but its funny because an r32 gts-t is JUST under the limit.. and you can drive it.. where as you would most likely get bent over by the cops if you got caught driving a car that is JUST over the limit.. so between the cars you can and cant drive there might be 1kw... now good luck telling the difference between them while driving them! but i spose it comes down to the fact that they have to draw the line somewhere... just annoying that where they have drawn the line (125kw/tonne) just eliminates so many cars.. if they increased the limit by a further 10-15kw... the amounts of cars you could drive would be significantly greater! its funny though because with better technology and materials/engines used in cars .. cars these days are getting more powerful and lighter.. i mean look at the new mitsubishi 380.. isnt that damn close to the power/weight ratio limit? correct me if i am wrong.. but it just seems like in the future there will be fewer and fewer cars that p platers can drive -Mark
  17. i would imagine that you cannot drive the 1999 Jap spec imported S15's.. as they have around 164kw i think.. how ever the australian delivered S15's only have 147 kw i beleive... therefore putting it under the limit.. and yes, same with S14's as for the R32 gtr.. it appears on the massive austrlain delivered car banned list on the vicroads website.. however .. yeah that would only apply to the locally imported r32 gtrs i would think... so its strange R32 gtr's arent on tht list!... allthough it does say down the bottom of that list that its not exhaustive... as for me.. i bought a 1993 R32 gts-4 ... bit of a downgrade from my r33... but can make it work i spose got done by different cops, but form same police station... second time they pretty much made me walk home, while my car was stopped in a no standing bus bay on the side fo the road... i asked if i could drive it home the 900m.. and they said no.. we catch you again and we will gve you et another high powered vihicle fine, and take you down to the station for repeat offending a crime and you will be ordered to appear in court.. i drew the line there as far as driving the r33 again however it is a gamble, its a rsk you take... i choose red and it landed on black.. so bad luck for me, i just hope you other guys have better luck! still have the r33.. im just getting it ready to be sold if i get anymore info on car stats or power/weight stuff i'll post it up.. i have been given adam petetts direct work phone number and was instructed to call him if i had ay queeries about the power weight fines i was given, and why it applied to me... funniest part is.. i live no where near knox, and ive never even met petett... however, apparently he had a very large role in producing that list.. i wonder why the rb26dett stageas arent on there -Mark
  18. long story.. basically got done for power/weight... cant drive car anymore... but theres a little more to it -Mark
  19. sorry bout the massive pic guys.. if you complain enough, i'll change it to just a hotlink... haha notice the cops put a tick next to my car to show me :@ -Mark
  20. oh.. ive ben done for power /weight twice now.. so i got a bit of inside info cops dont even think about the rego sticker tare weights, because they are all so so wrong... police will say that modifications to a car under the limit count.. but at the end of the day, its up to them to prove if they dont have any written evidence (eg a stock car being over) .. you are innocent until provent guilty... therefor if you have a modified R32 gts-t 1993 (just under the limit) and throw on an exhaust, bigger turbo etc yes it will blaintently be voer the limit.. but its up to them to prove.. WITH evidence.. not jsut an assumption. as for the fine.. yes every cop and his dog will hand out $110 and no point fines ... but technically it is supposed to incur a points penalty, however no police ever inforce that... i belive its kinda like a 3 strikes and your out type thing.. i got done twice for it.. the police then wouldnt let me drive home and said next time they catch me (strike 3) i get a summonse to court..... this was in an R33 gts-t.. so yes.. over the list... give me a minute and i'll scan a list i have of "imported" cars the victorian TMU police have all been given to look out for p platers driving them... -Ruffels
  21. Ohk.. i know this has been done a few times.. but i dont know what the go is as i have a gtr gearbox ... anyways the car makes a heavy whiring sound when the car is in neutral and non of the pedal are being touched.. however if you then go and put the clutch pedal in, the whiring noise dissapears... then the noise is back again all through the gears... what could it be? i dont think tis hindering my cars performance at all.. but damn its pissing me off... ive had the car for 3 weeks now, and its driving me batty... anyone know of a good place to pull the gearbox down and look at it and how much it could end up costing me to do this to get it fixed :S? thanks -Ruffels
  22. still have Boss kit Turbo Timer Steering wheel Cold air induction kit floor mats Neons ... no one has been able to make good enough offers on them so far.. lots of interest.. just not high enough offers... what ever doesnt sell in the next week is going on ebay thanks -Ruffels
