Tyre Choice
Bullet32 replied to joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
If you are planning on putting 235/40R18's on your car you probably wont be able to get the older 595RS now as they have been superceeded by the newer 595RS-R which has a reinforced casing and sidewall = better overall traction and resistence to "folding under" in extreme situations (track work or very spirited driving). If you compare the 2 tyres that you have suggested you will notice that they arent really in the same category: The RE001 has a higher treadwear (220), an assymetrical pattern and smaller "broken" tread blocks making it more of a street tyre. The 595RS-R has lower treadwear (140), directional tread pattern and one singlular "unbroken" treadblock around the tyre making it more of a street legal track tyre or entry level motorsport tyre. So you can expect very different performance and life from each tyre. The RS-R will almost certainly give you more dry traction, whereas the RE001 will probably give better wet weather handling. In regards to your question (above) the 595RS-R was rated the best for wet braking out of the semi slicks tested in the latest Motor Magazine tyre test, but was still not as good as most of the normal street tyres. P.S. I use the 595RS-R as a daily driven tyre on my R32 (which was putting down 240rwkw until I popped the turbo) and found them to be very reliable and consistent. I hope this helps with your choice -
Welcome to the dark side - Nice looking R32 you have there. If youre looking for advice I will try to help 1 - Dont bother getting a standard turbo rebuilt (especially not in Canberra) there are plenty of bolt on upgrades available through these forums or other websites that will do a much better job and cost about the same money as a rebuild / highflow. 2 - Look in the for sale threads on these forums for wheels, there are always cheap sets there. 3 - R32 coilovers for sale second hand are also fairly common in the for sale threads, I believe that 'Scooby' has some lowered Trust / Greddy springs for sale aswell. 4 - "SAFC or power FC boost controller" Do you already have a PowerFC? - If you do, you wont need the SAFC (Super Air Flow Converter)... If you mean to say that you are after a boost controller then you will need an AVCR (if you want A'Pexi)... I would recommend looking at getting a Turbosmart E-Boost 2 though. 5 - Coilpacks, Dump pipe and power steering hose - try www.Justjap.com, they should have everything you need.

I'll probably get crucified for this, I would prefer an R32 GTR worked off its head if I had that kind of cash. -

Pssst - I own a Z now too Scott -
I reckon we should really get behind the new Marulan complex... When we were out there it looked like a really challenging track with tight bends and its brand new asphalt too so it would be smooth and grippy, and its not too far away. We should contact Gary Wilmington and see if he can offer a club discount if we get 10 or more people to pay in advance for a day of driver training / good fun thrashing our cars legally.

Not your fault Richard, I would blame the lazy ass cops who couldnt be f_cked sending one unit to check it out while you were there... Last time I checked car theft is supposedly a serious crime.

I cant see why turbo timers would be illegal... There are plenty of turbo diesel 4wd's around with timers installed and alot of larger (medium rigid for example) trucks come out with them as an option from the factory. I am keen to know (if they are illegal) what facts the legislation is based on.

I had a really nice dinner last week... Saved some put it in the fridge and reheated it the night after and surprisingly it tasted a bit better than fresh, but I suppose it was starting to mix the ingredients more. The next night I reheated some more but it didn’t taste the same and I felt a little queezy afterwards but put that down to the beer. On the last night I reheated it again and after the first mouthful I all near gargled and chucked. Do you think I blamed the original meal or the Chef? Sure, as cooling it down to near freezing then reheating it to near boiling three times surely couldn’t have made it go off. I have had take away that could be reheated more times than that……Sound familiar? Changing the characteristics of a tyre with excessive forces, heat and cold also changes the performance characteristics. One reason why in premium motor sport events they change tyres well before they are worn out or damaged. You cant short cut your way to the top. I hope this helps explain what happened to your tyres. -
Hi all, I have a genuine SAAS "Enforcer Series 1" bucket seat for sale which I originally bought to put into the R32 for track days, motorkhanas etc. but I have since bought a daily driver and need cash to fix it up and get rego. This seat is BRAND NEW, never used, perfect condition - No marks, tears, stains, scratches... It is ADR compliant and fully reclinable, its very comfortable and has excellent support / bolsters to hold you in place. It comes without rails but is universal fitment so it can be adapted to the original Skyline rails quite easily. These seats are $499.00 each new, I am asking for $350.00 FIRM (including freight if needed)... I am located in the ACT and will happily arrange freight anywhere in the country (I will supply con-note details but take no responsibility once goods are on freight). I am in no rush to sell so no low ball offers please. PM me for high res pics and / or contact details. Cheers Mick

I understand that people may have only one car to drive, but when you add it up ---- If that car gets stolen then they have 0 cars to drive (unless they borrow) and a huge amount of heartache and drama trying to get the car back or insurance to pay out... Not to mention the inconvienience... If I had to commute to CIT in Reid every day, I would either buy a $1,000 sh_tbox that no one would want to steal or take public transport. In short - Dont give theives the chance to steal your pride and joy, leave it at home if you have to. (PS, Im not totally heartless, I feel deep sympathy for anyone who has been through this situation).
-
Just out of curiosity... Why the hell would anyone park an import Skyline in the CIT Reid car park??? - We all know that is a haven for car theives. When my 32 was on the road, I NEVER parked it in any car park where I didnt think it was relatively safe. Dont people realise that these cars are bait for theives?? Im not approving of the theft, I just think that a bit more forthought into where and when to park your Skyline could save a sh_tload of greif later.

There not hard if you are pretty handy with tools... I had a quick look and guessed that the easiest way would be to use 2 lengths of strong steel, run them across from one rail to the other, drill 4 holes and bolt the seat onto them with high tensile bolts. There could be other ways but that was my guess
