  1. Simon, Yeah Tim did win it. Couple of his mates put his name on the form as who organised their group. Some balloon ride I think.
  2. It's not just the fact that they got their facts wrong. It's what the "journalist" is implying. That has a massive effect on public perception.
  3. They just ask you to put the license number on the form. That's it. I don't know if they check it.
  4. You need your drivers license.
  5. OK. I'll send in this letter in as an individual. If the SAU comittee want to respond then I think that someone else should write it up, ie. the President. Dino, I've written to the editor of the Daily Telegraph a few times and they just seem to ignore my letters. I reckon they just don't want to admit how dumb their reporters are. This is one subject which hits home with me. I'm sick of the sterotype image that the media places on young drivers of hi performance cars.
  6. I'm sending a letter to media watch. Below is a rough outline of the letter. Please give your thoughts and ideas. Also correct gramma as I've been out of school for too long now... I'd really like to send this as a letter from SAU rather than myself. Dear Media Watch, I'd just like to point out a stupid mistake by the Daily Telegraph. Page 11, 4th September 2002. Heading "Teenage license to Kill" by Marcus Casey is the best laugh I've had all week. This "journalist" goes on about the drivers's car and how lethal it is. It's apparently some "Japanese hot shot box" (first time I've ever heard that expression, probably made up by the journalist). Well, the car, from this "journalists" point of view is a Nissan Skyline GTR. Well, in fact it is a Skyline, but it's no GTR. The car this driver died in is the old family sedan Skyline which was an Australian built car. The Skyline GTR is the Bathurst winning model. Yes, it's built in Japan. But it doesn't look like the one shown in the artical. This driver died in a "Australian" built "family" car. Not a "Japanese" built "hi performance" car. Any car is dangerous, but it's the driver's attitude that determines what happens. This "journalist" makes out that teenagers buy these cars like hot cakes. Funny, they all must be 18yo with 10-20 years experience. I can assure you that most teenagers can't afford such cars like this and drive in Toyota Corolla, Holden Commodores, Ford Falcons, etc.. Oh, how about the "They easily reach the state's maximum speed limit of 110km/h in second and sometimes first." I've been around cars for a longtime now and I can tell you that most cars can reach 110km/h in second gear, even your localy built Commodore/Falcon. But I've never seen a car that can reach 110km/h in first!!! To achieve that you need to look at supercars like the Mclaren F1 or the Jaguar XJ220. As a Skyline GTR owner I'm clearly not impressed, as with other owners. Stories like this simply make insurance companies increase premiums. I doubt members of the public couldn't tell or know the difference in cars but this will give them the impression that all WRX/EVO 6/GTR owners drive around like maniacs.
  7. ????? 110km/h in first????? I think the Jaguar XJ220 does 101km/h in first. Maybe the McLaren F1 or F50. But a GTR??? First is more like just above 60km/h. Once again, the media "KNOW" everything..... NOT!!!
  8. That's funny. I got a Trust one and it fits. It's got two 15mm in/out ports. I also know that there is one which has smaller ports. You have to get some piping lines. Go to Earls Hoses which is close by to Advan. I brought some braided lines for $90/meter.
  9. This is a link to Motoconcepts rules and conditions on paticipating. For those who are new to track days, please read them and obey them. The rules and conditions
  10. With the smaller teams, cause they don't do much testing with the tyre manufactures they don't perform well on their cars. Ferrari, Mclaren and Williams have massive budgets and can afford to test with the tyre manufactures. So therefore the manufactures design tyres that suit the top 3 teams. What would make it even far more interesting is if Goodyear or another tyre manufacturer come into the frame. I'll always watch F1. The best drivers are there, and so the best car designers are too. It's automotive at it's best. I admit I don't like Schuey on a personal level, but he is still the best driver out there without a doubt. And also exciting to watch.
  11. It's funny how the media manipulate people's minds. What about aussie V8's or European sports cars? They can be just as quick too. Come to think of it, can't remember the last time I read the daily telegraph or listened to channel 10, 9 or 7 cause their so biased.
  12. This is why I oppose illegal street racing. Simple. That's what race tracks are for. It's stupidity that kills, not speed.
  13. I don't think it's the teams. I really believe it comes down to the tyres. Look how far Brigestone are ahead. The Michelin intermediates were shocking!!! The slicks son't last long either.
  14. Jack up the car and rotate each wheel to find a flat spot.
  15. Depends on driving style. I like to brake late so I go through pads pretty quick. However if your learning, take it easy and you'll be fine. As Dino said, bleed your brakes.
  16. If you want the looks, go the line. If you wanna fun car, ae86 with a 4age of some sort in there. If you just want to drive, get a local car as parts are cheaper.
  17. Likely a wheel bearing. Did you lock the brakes that day?
  18. HICAS only comes into affect above 80KM/h. It helps the car turn in better into corners. It only turns 1 degree in which ever direction the front wheels are turning. So it's not visable like the Prelude or MX6 4WS. Also there is no mechanical link between the front steering shaft and the rear, unlike the Prelude or MX6. It's pretty much software controlled. However for maximum handling, and for those who know what their doing, removing the HICAS is better as it gives a more consistant handling.
  19. Hey Doc, Need long pants and long sleeve shirt. Cotton. Full face helmet. Open face can be used but you need racing harness to go with it. No need to buy licence just drivers license (unless you brided the RTA... ).
  20. Spot on Matty. If I see a faster car coming up from behind, I get off the racing line and let them through. Common sense really.
  21. Can you re-program the unit? Is it a piggyback or full replacement? Is there a website that can show me the full features? I'm considering a S-AFC so how does this compare to it?
  22. Very good idea pete.
  23. A mate of mine had his Prelude built there. Very serious car. One problem after another. Now it's at CAS. They'll do a good job.
  24. Hell no to any raceway shutting down. A country of this size and we have less tracks than Japan. Can anyone make sense of that? People complain about street racing and expecting the police to catch each and everyone who does this activity. How about confining it to a closed area which is well supervised? Maybe death tolls will drop as a result.
  25. Doesn't look like a RB26. Looks like a RB20 or 25.
