  1. Hi, all. My apologies for not responding earlier. Thank you for your contribution, Mr. Keets, it was such a pleasure to read such a well constructed piece that I almost forgot where I was! I am sorry that your personal lessons have come at such a price. Perhaps wisdom does come with age, as you suggest. Or maybe at least one slows down enough to allow common sense to creep into one's consciousness - for I would not purport to display wisdom, I have merely had the blessing of good fortune to survive this long to learn from my mistakes. Which was really your point, I think. I have been reminded just this weekend by the actions of a family member of the urges for risk-taking by young men, almost as a right of passage. But that cannot stop the old b'stards like me from endeavouring to ensure that the lesson is learnt. So, yes, I must care, otherwise I would not have bothered posting in the first place. (Are you sure you are on the right forum, making such astute observations and inferences?!) My point there, though, is that I would not take away from the young goat lovers their right to pursue their risk taking and put themselves at risk, but I would challenge any manner in which they do so that threatens others safety and well-being. Rev210, I agree that I cannot argue it is safer to speed in the country than in the suburbs. But logic would support that 70 in a 50 zone is bordering on reckless, whereas 130 in a 110 on an open highway is less so. So it is not safer, but it is less reckless .... ... ... ... !! The inherent weakness in this argument is why we end up with hard and fast lines being drawn. You cannot legislate for discretion in applying the law. The law must draw a line and stick to it. So I take your point. Which then brings us back to the boring older, wiser b'stards on forums such as this urging the young goat lovers to keep it on the track. So having painted myself in at least two circles, when is the next track day? Cheers.
  2. Yes, when I put my specs on and squeeze my eyes nearly closed, I can see it may be a Tommy K "R" symbol. If it helps, I have attached the auction sheet from that car. As far as I can tell, it is described as a V Spec II Nur. I do not know enough Japanese to know if it is referring to Tommy Kaira anywhere. Perhaps someone else does? Cheers.
  3. Do you speak like you type? Oh, and allow me to translate: Duh ya tok lahk ya tipe? (I just thought I would throw in something to distract others from flaming Strich9!)
  4. I believe it is a factory option - whether Nismo or otherwise, I am not sure. When I was bidding for cars through Imports 101, I put in a hopeful bid on a V Spec II Nur. We were blown out of the water on price, but Danny got some more pictures, which included the one attached. Hope this helps. Cheers. P.S. Not sure what the symbol is in the middle, lower half.
  5. Hi, guys. Yep, I'm a cool mfsob. I am only 17 3/4 and have already had 86 points taken off me, lost my licence twice for 2 years and had two cars confiscated and crushed. Funny that my Mum and Dad don't talk to me any more, now that they have to walk to work. I am also working on a wireless link between my computer and my phone, so that I can throw away the qwerty keyboard and just sms speak in everything. Grammar, spelling and normal conventions of communication are just for nerds. Anyway, when those b'stard cops give me my licence back I will be out there again, drifting around idiot pedestrians, amazing schoolkids with my driving skills as I flash past them at warp speed and showing all those slow grannies how to drive a car. I am amazed at how many people drive at less than 65 in a 60 limit. Come on, people - are you drivers or what?! I can't wait to get my licence back. Those cops are always picking on me. I reckon they hate imports. Now the b'stard insurance company wants to charge me more to insure my ride than it cost to buy in the first place. Wassup with them? Can't they read? All those points show that I am a great racing driver. They have got no idea. Anyone want to race me? Nobody will race me on our housing estate - losers! Go on, I dare ya! Luv from, Li'l Dick. Meanwhile, back in the real world, as Topaz says, you gain points, you don't start with 12 and lose them. You actually only lose points when the ones you have gained expire. But, children, keep it on the track. You will kill someone on the roads doing what you are all, seemingly, glorifying. Object all you like, but the tenor of this thread is towards that, or at least self-justification. I am not particularly bothered if you want to go out and kill yourself, but I am bothered if you kill another road user, or a child. Just imagine the nightmare that you would have if you crash, kill one or more of your friends, badly injure other friends, kill an innocent person who happened to be there when you proved that you really are not Michael Schumacker, but a dickhead, and then you survive and have to live with it. There are a growing number of young people out there living with this kind of thing. I only hope that my family and I never meet you on the roads. As many of you seem to be relatively recent members, you might not realise that one of the aims of this forum is to promote responsible driving in our wonderful cars. Keep this kind of thread going and you will play into the hands of Today Tonight and other dumbed down media looking for a simple story, calling all car enthusiasts hoons. You will also be encouraging those who are urging for legislation to ban P platers, or drivers under 23 or whatever, from driving turbo cars, etc. Have fun. Cheers. :-) P.S. For the record, I have gained three current demerit points. I have gone for years without getting any - and then driven through Mandurah and Bunbury when going down South for a holiday and, bingo, speed limit changed again and you are on candid camera - another point. And if you are unable to reconcile that with my message above, then concentrate hard and after a little while, it might dawn on you that there is a difference between being pinged when travelling with the traffic flow on a highway and doing 20, 30 or 40 kph over the limit in a suburban street. Those with little brains can flame away.

  12. You should be able to get the Japanese VIN from the auction sheet. If you are not sure how to read them, there are various websites that offer translations. Meanwhile, if you want to see an advert for Imports 101, look at my car on the WA Show 'n Shine sticky. I put a lot of money into this car via these guys and reckon every penny has been well spent. I cannot say any more. Look at the car! (2001 R34 GTR V Spec II.) Cheers.
  13. Sorry to head off on a tangent. I have never understood the obsession with "race-look" steering wheels. They are, no doubt wonderful if you are on a race track, in controlled circumstances, or showing off a show car. But if you are driving on the street, you cannot control the other idiots and the airbag that you have removed just might save your life - or at least save your face. As it is, I think that the R33 four spoke air bag steering wheel looks pretty good. AS for the R34 three spoke wheel, I am not such a fan - but it is OK. So why go for a Momo monogrammed boss that will imprint itself into your skull and several layers of your brain? Just a thought. Cheers.
  14. Just a phone piccie for now! Cheers.
  15. I believe that one size fits all across most of the Nissan range. My car is an R34 GTR, which definitely has the same size filler cap as an R33 GTST. Cheers.
  16. Hi, guys. I am after a Nismo Fuel Filler Cap - Type 2. I have attached a picture of the one I want. Everyone says they are discontinued! Bugger. I have the oil cap and want the matching fuel filler cap. If you have one, please reply or PM. Thanks.
  17. Quite a few people challenged the speeding tickets from the rail works on the freeway. From what I heard, more than a few were successful. This may be the stuff of urban myths, but it would seem reasonable that you could say that where they stopped you, you reckoned it was an 80 zone - hence your speed. You can contend that the signs you passed did not show a 60 zone, or if there was one, it was only on one side of the road (it needs to be on both for a multiple lane road). There should be sufficient precedent of poor sign placement on roadworks for you to argue that there was no clear indication that you had entered a 60 zone. The fact that your speed was 78 can even be used to back your claim that you thought you were in an 80 zone. Now reasonableness and the law do not necessarily go hand in glove, but you definitely have grounds to challenge it. If it got to the point of them asking why you did not challenge it at the time (which it probably wouldn't), then you could argue that your past experience, given your age and car, meant that it was best not to argue with the cop on the spot. If you are in the RAC, you can get legal help through them. Cheers.
  18. Thanks, N I B. I am still in the constantly smiling phase after getting the car. I keep finding excuses to walk through the office car park just to look at it! It is a belter. Danny did me proud. Catch...32, thanks for your more reasoned comments. It would be interesting to know their side of it. Cheers.
  19. Edited by Sneeza - removed quotes. Please keep comments of this nature to PM's. Hi, Guys, Welcome to the cold, hard world of car dealers and servicing. You need to be very careful about condemning any business on the basis of one poor experience. By all means do your own thing and never go there again. Tell your mates as well, if you like. But don't bad-mouth them on a forum like this. At least you have tried to describe your experience, Catch...32. I would suggest you let others draw their own opinion. As for you, Monga, your judgment is about as accurate as your spelling. I bought my first Skyline from Downunder Autos and they serviced it for me for over two years until they moved to Wangara. They gave me a good deal on the car and I found their service and servicing to be excellent. I bought my current car from Imports 101 (an R34 GTR V Spec II). Danny and his team have been great and provided me with a fantastic car, which they are looking after as if it was their own. My experience with both of these garages/workshops and many others before with various cars has always been the same. Things can go wrong with any car. If you talk to the guy at the workshop and let him explain what is going on, you will not only understand the issue, but you will be able to be part of working out a reasonable solution. If you blame the workshop for things going wrong on your car, then you are in dreamland. I have no doubt that there are some dodgy characters out there, but they are few and far between. You may find, though, that your attitude and approach to an issue will affect how a busy workshop owner deals with you. The best ones will always spend time on customer relations. Most are more likely to show the human failing of lack of patience with a problemmatic customer. So if you want good service, talk to the people. There are two ends to every conversation! Cheers.
  20. Thanks, Sewid, I'll take a look at it. Thanks to the other guys for their comments too. Cheers.
  21. Hi, all, I have just had a Power Fc installed on my R34 GTR (still getting used to that phrase - "my R34 GTR" .........). I had also fitted a Nismo R-Tune intake duct, which was promoted as a good thing in various places. The guys at the workshop were dubious about its likely performance, because the flow area at the mouth is really quite restricted. My understanding is that the idea of it is to introduce some level of ram effect into the airbox. (I had also put a Midori panel filter in the box, which was supposed to give enhanced flow over standard - I could not get a Nismo Sports Element.) When it was being tuned on the dyno, the guys reports that from about 5,500 rpm the intake started whistling, it was so restricted. The power curve also flattened off. This was also influenced by the boost declining from an initial 18 psi or so to about 13 psi. (This is temporarily controlled by a bleed valve, with an EBC going in next week - hopefully.) The suggestion from the workshop is that the intake is responsible for much of the flattening of the power curve (I will post up the dyno graph tomorrow). I am now considering installing an APEXi Power Intake pod system instead. I am swayed by the argument that the ram effect would be marginal compared to the available flow area - which the pod system will win hands down. Naturally, tuning on a dyno, there will be no ram effect, because the car is not moving. So it is difficult to tell conclusively. My doubts on all this stem from the fact that Nismo know what they are doing and they have had some pretty high output cars running with this intake. Does anyone else have any experience of this or can they offer an explanation of the differences involved? The R-Tune intake duct sits on the standard airbox, which is unmodified. I have the standard intake pipes. I note that the Nismo cars all have the Nismo intake pipes, which offer improved flow - but they are all downstream of the mouth of the intake. So if this presents a restriction, this will dominate the performance of the overall intake system. I would appreciate any comments. Cheers.
  22. To anyone considering this - it must be worth a look at this price! I have just imported a 2001 GTR V Spec II which, with a few goodies, has cost me over $85k on the road. So someone give Imacul8 a call and grab a bargain!! Good luck with the sale, mate. Sorry I did not see it when I was looking, or I would have bought it!! It looks awesome. Cheers.
  23. Cheers, mate. I was thinking of somewhere like that, too. I am a bit cautious that going to any shop, they will be inclined to sell me new stuff. Hence looking for some advice here. Cheers. ;-)
  24. Hi all, I just took delivery of my R34 GTR, from Imports 101 in Perth. It is a 2001 V Spec II, which is cool, but the news on the audio/DVD is not good. I am told that I might as well take the lot out and start again. Now I know the TV cannot be made to work. I know that it is unlikely to be possible to get the sat nav chipped for Oz. I know the instructions are all in Japanese and I cannot find an English manual or translation. But is there anything I can get to work in this thing? I tried one DVD and got a blinking image. Now, I did not buy the GTR to watch DVDs in it, but it would be good to know what works and what doesn't. Or shall I just chuck it? I would appreciate any advice. Cheers. ;-)
  25. Hi, guys. Came into this all rather late. There are a number of threads discussing fuel supplies in WA and elsewhere in Australia, which refineries supply where and so on. For example, see Optimax Fuel Quality. Unless it has changed in the last twelve months, BP Ultimate is the only 98 octane fuel available in WA. There are also many threads on fuel consumption, so the "search" button is your friend! My understanding is that the factory ECU is programmed to run fairly rich. As you modify the car, by fitting less restrictive intake and zorst, it will run richer still, so your fuel consumption will go up - and so will the amount of black crap on the back of the car. Re-tuning, via a piggyback system (e.g. SAFC) or a replacement ECU (e.g. Power FC) allows you to lean out the mixture. But the factory ECU is deliberately tuned rich to minimise the potential for detonation. So if you lean out the mixture, you are increasing the chances of detonation. Hence your tuner needs to optimise your mixture to leave sufficient margin to avoid detonation, thus giving better power and happily gaining improved fuel consumption. Replacing the O2 sensor may help, but I suspect that this would not be a long-lasting fix, as it was probably covered in black crap. Without fixing the fundamental issue of running rich, it wil just get covered in black crap again. Obviously the performance of the O2 sensor will affect the richness of the mixture and the amount of black crap produced, so it is not a linear relationship, but it is not a once and for all fix. Incidentally, I get typically 360km per tank in my R33 GTST, filling up before the fuel light comes on (around 50 litres). On a long run down South, I will get 450 to 500 km. Fuel consumption improved when I fitted an R34 GTT intercooler. Hope this helps. Cheers.
