  2. You live in the ACT, so your BP and Shell both come from the Shell Clyde refinery in Sydney. The Mobil and Caltex come from the Kurnell refinery. The closest BP refinery to you is Bulwer Island in Qld (the only other BP refinery is at Kwinana in WA) and they don't truck that far interstate from Bulwer Island. Hence any difference you are feeling between the brands of fuel made in the same refinery is simply placebo effect. cheers

  4. Other that the mods above, I also ported it, then volume matched and polished the combustion chambers. I used a standard headgasket with o'rings around the combustion chambers. That's it for when I had it. I sold it 3 years ago, don't know what been done since. cheers

From memory; 100% stock = 147 rwkw Cat back = 168 rwkw (boost went up 1.5 psi) Split dump and Magic cat = 183 rwkw (boost went up a little bit more, say 1 psi) Standard R32GTR intercooler and my own design of 63 mm pipework = no dyno Power FC, tune and boost up to 10 psi = 205 rwkw GCG Ball bearing High Flow, 1.5 bar boost, tune + injectors = 248 rwkw Tomei Poncams, 1.4 bar + tune = 265 rwkw Cheers
  6. Last time I looked the thread title was The very first line of the opening post asks; So I have no problem telling him that my Skylines (and Stagea) love Shell Optimax Extreme 100 ron. cheers
  7. Actually, the cylinder heads is off at the moment, it is getting some new exhaust valves after a 10,300 rpm over rev (wasn't me). Looks beautiful, no signs of detonation, inlet ports are clean and unmarked, pistons and exhaust ports have the right amount of discolouration for a 110,000 k's old engine. The valve seats (inlet and exhaust) were in perfect condition. The Bores are perfect, no lip, still can see some hone marks. The rings look to be doing their job just fine and the standard head gasket was sealing perfectly. Overall, it's in perfect condition, especially considering we have been running it at 15 to 1 A/F ratios off boost and 12 to 1 on boost. Plus it’s done a few laps on circuits, a handful of 1/4 runs and is tuned with lots of ignition advance. Twelve new Ferrea exhaust valves, o’rings, a quick port and polish of the combustion chambers and it will be ready for some more work. cheers
  8. Vent the BOV’s back into the turbo inlet system and I bet the problem goes away. Just in case you don’t know what is happening; 1. The AFM’s measure the incoming air flow 2. The ECU squirts in the amount of fuel necessary to match that amount of air 3. The BOV’s vent the air after the AFM;s have measured it 4. So you get a whole heap of fuel with not enough air for it to be burnt in the combustion process. 5. Hence some unburnt fuel heads out of the engine into the exhaust system 6. That unburnt fuel either ignites straight away and gives a long slow reddish flame out the pipe (like a V8 Supercar on overrun) 7. Or, it sits in the exhaust until you put you foot back on the throttle and gives a nice bright ignition flash that is blue to white in colour. Recycle the BOV’s and the problem will go away. cheers
  9. These are drag racing numbers, TOTALLY irrelevant for circuit or targa use. Forget about them, they mean NOTHING for what you are going to use the car for. You will NOT find a gearbox, clutch, diff or drive shafts that will suite a circuit race application with that sort of power and/or rpm. You will loose more races due to unreliability than you win due to the extra horsepower. The lag and shear lack of throttle response will make the car almost IMPOSSIBLE to drive around corners at anywhere near the G forces necessary to be competitive. The fastest GTR’s around circuits have 600 to 700 bhp, the faster ones closer to 600 than 700. Check around, look at the lap times, look at the race results. Keeping the above in mind the answer is …………… IT DOESN’T MATTER Any decent 2.6, 2.7 , 2.8, 3.0 or 3.1 litre RB will do the job just fine. Apexi, HKS, OS Giken, Trust etc etc they will all satisfy your requirements. Turbo and camshaft selection to match the gearbox and diff ratios is far more important than a few extra cc’s. So just PICK a bottom end and get on with the important stuff, safe in the knowledge that you can’t make a bad decision whichever one you choose. cheers
  10. If you had done a search (“Sydneykid”, “Extreme” and “any date”) you would have found these posts; February 2006 We have a new project car, an R33GTST that is in need of some TLC. One of the recent upgrades was a Power FC. As most people are aware, the default ignition maps are a little advanced for Optimax, Ultimate or Vortex 98. Not as bad as they used to be for 95 ron fuels, but still a tad. Obviously I will tune it properly eventually , but we have a few mods to go yet and I don’t have the time to tune it multiple times. So the idea was to stick the Power FC in and run it on the default maps for a couple of weeks. On Optimax and Ultimate (didn’t try Vortex) it was reaching knock of 60+ up our usual test hill in 4th gear as logged on the datalogit. The dash warning was also flashing frequently, as it is set for 60, in normal day to day driving around. When the tank was just about empty this week, we filled it up with Optimax Extreme (@ 5 cents a litre more than Optimax). Several runs up the hill and we are not seeing knock over 10. And zero dash warnings in 3 days of normal driving. Now that is very worthwhile, there is not enough Optimix Extreme around yet for me to tune it exclusively for 100 ron, but it sure will be a useful for the odd track day or run down the ¼. I will monitor the effects of the ethanol on the fuel lines, o’rings and seals over the next few weeks. The injectors and fuel pump will have to come out shortly so I will check their condition as well. I am not anticipating any problems, but it is still worth checking. March 2006 After a month (~2,000k's) of running exclusively on Extreme in the R33GTST, I did a fuel filter change on the weekend. Cut it open and no sign of any foreign material, deteriorated fuel hose etc. That means zero effect from the 5% ethanol, as expected. So we will continue to use it. Current status, after 8 months of running exclusively Shell Optimax Extreme 100 ron. After 3 fuel filter changes I still haven’t found one sign of fuel system rubber or metal deterioration. I cleaned the injectors last week and there is not one sign of any effect on them either. I also flow tested them and they performed exactly as they did last time I flow tested them. Based on the results with the R33GTST, I have now started to use it in the Stagea, which I will be tuning again very shortly to take advantage of the extra performance on offer. cheers
  11. For the extra performance = Yes That's not just max power but response from the more advanced ignition timing. Enabling the use of standard Power FC maps = Yes Let's face it, in performance car terms it's peanuts 60 litres X 5 cents = $3 a week. cheers
  12. Shell Optimax Extreme 100 ron is 5% ethanol and is around 5 cents litre more than Shell Optimax 98 ron. cheers
  13. Based on my experiences (R32GTR, R32GTST, R33GTST, R34GTT, Stagea) all Skyline tachos are optimistic, usually 5% or so. cheers

  16. What ECU? Have you got overrun fuel cut enabled? cheers PS, regardles of the ECU, if it runs an AFM and an atmosphere BOV it will run very rich on overrun.
  17. Hi Andrew, the Noltec adjustable R32 front upper control arm is excessively heavy, they slip as the bolts loosen up frequently and they provide no more adjustment than 2 x Whiteline camber kits. ie; they have a minimum closed length around 180 mm. cheers

  22. That's the go; 1. machine to the dimensions 2. heat collar and cool crank 3. press collar onto crank 4. drill holes for grub screws and tap threads. cheers

  24. R32/33/34 's have 2 upper rear control arms, both control camber. One arm is parrallel to the drive shafts, the red R32 arm in the post above (Note that the R33/34 arm is only one sided, not a complete loop) The other arm is at a 45 degree angle to the drive shaft, the blue one in the post above. To properly correct the camber you need both arms. That's why the Whiteline rear camber kit comes with adjustable bushes for both arms. In the following picture of R34GTR rear suspension, you can see the 2 upper arms. The inner pivots points (where the Whiteline camber bushes go) are marked with the 4 yellow dots. cheers
