That's 58.7% more E85 (700 x 90% versus 1000 x 100%). Something is drastically wrong, there is no way any car I have ever seen with E85 uses 58.7% more fuel. I have seen 25% and the occasional 30% when more power(boost) and/or rpm is tuned for. But 58.7% in the same engine at the same boost and rpm is unbelieveable. Based on the above I'd say about 30%. It depends on the comparison, my last 3 litre used less fuel for the same horsepower than the RB26 that it replaced. Mostly because I used a lot lower rpm, keeping in mind torque x rpm / 5250 = horsepower. Thanks that will be most helpfull Cheers Gary

R32 Gtr Spring Rates Help
Sydneykid replied to ujin's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Add the usual road car aircon and ABS and it's closer to 65/35. Nope, don't use that sort of effective spring rate in a V8Supercar, not even on a relatively smooth, high g force circuit like Philip Island. Cheers Gary -
Will R34 Gtr Coilovers Work On A R33 Gtr?

Yes, they will fit. Cheers Gary -
Can Someone Id These Shocks?
Sydneykid replied to Vanilla_Rice's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The standard GTR shocks are pretty much worn out over 60,000 k's and I don't think there would be many R32GTR's with less than 60,000 k's on them. The only way to tell is to dissassemble them from the springs and go through the usual checks; 1. Compress them and feel the gas pressure, all 4 should be the same 2. Compare how long the pairs take to rebound (extend) after compression, the fronts should be the same as each other and the rears should be the same as each other. The front should take longer tot fully extend than the rears as they have more rebound damping 3. Look at the shock shafts for wear and heat marks 4. Check for oil leaks around the shaft seals 5. Compare the heights of the spring pairs, that will tell you if they have sagged on one side. 6. Lock at the condition of the bump stops, if they are ground to pulp then chances are the shocks are stuffed. 7. Check out the top and bottom rubber bushes, like the bump stops, if they are ground to pulp then chances are the shocks are stuffed. That about covers it. Cheers Gary -
Rear Strut Brace Install On R34
Sydneykid replied to GUN_METAL_GTR32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Swaybars obviously, the best value for money handling upgrade you can make. Then get the suspension geometry where it should be, so camber kits front and rear, caster kit anmd rear subframe alignment kit. That will get the maximum amount of tyre in contact with the road/track, then it's up to how good the tyres themselves are. Cheers Gary -
I agree, I have yet to drive any RB25 with over 300 rwkw that doesn't have too much lag for me. Since they weigh heaps more, the Commondoor Foulcan comparison is more like 420 kw (engine). Cheers Gary

It's not physicaly possible for the crank sprocket to line up with the TDC mark while the damper lines up with the 5 degrees BTC mark, unless the outer damper ring has rotated on the inner hub and/or the keyway is worn and/or in the wrong place. Either way you need to find out why the timing marks don't align before you go any further. A detached damper or bad keyway are small problems that will get quite huge if not fixed. Cheers Gary

Greddy Type S Or Tein Super Streets
Sydneykid replied to profaine's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Changing the damper settings doesn't change the spring rate, there is nothing you can do with the damper adjustment, bump or rebound, that will lower the spring rate. Springs have an instantaneous rate, they are what they are, always. Whereas dampers can be considered to be adding a timing change, for example more bump (compression) damping slows down how quickly the spring compresses after the wheel hits a bump. Conversely with rebound damping, more rebound (extension) damping slows down how quickly the spring returns to its normal height Changes in bump and rebound damping does affect the ride and handling, but they can never "reduce" too high a spring rate. However if you have a low spring rate then damping adjustments can add timing into their compression and expansion. For example if you add bump damping the front will compress slower under brakes with the same spring rate. Cheers Gary -
Greddy Type S Or Tein Super Streets
Sydneykid replied to profaine's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Rubbish, the spring rate is the spring rate, the only way to change the spring rate is to change the spring. Adding or subtracting preload makes absolutely no difference to the spring rate. High spring rates don't give better handling, or traction for accelerating or braking. The tyre needs to be in contact with the road surface and that won't happen with high spring rates. Skylines don't have limo spring rates standard, they are "sports cars" and their standard spring rates are specified accordingly. So a 12 kg/mm spring (ie; it takes 12 kgs to compress it 1 mm) is going to feel the same as a 3 kg/mm spring (it takes 3 kgs to compress it 1 mm)? I don't think so, not in the real world anyway. R32 Gtr Spring Rates Help
Sydneykid replied to ujin's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Keeping in mind that the movement and leverage ratios are the same front and rear, for a car with 65/35 front rear weight distribution does it really make sense to have 50/50 spring rates? Think about what that means. Simplistically, for the same sized bump the front spring is going to compress ~50% more than the rear spring, how do you think that is going to affect the ride and handling? Cheers Gary -

Rack Spacers For More Lock
Sydneykid replied to Dean_HR31's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
How do they give you more lock when standard the hub hits on the lower control arm? That's the travel limitation, not the effective length of the rack. Plus they move the pivot point of the steering arm further outwards, changing its alignment with the lower control arm pivot point and hence introducing bump steer. Cheers Gary -

R32GTR standard shocks, maybe standard front springs (black), certainly not standard rear springs (yellow), The standard springs have coloured dots on a couple of the coils, usually white, red, yellow or green. Cheers Gary -
Help Me Diagnose A Suspension Vibration

Rubber bushes, inner and outer, on the upper control arm. If they are worn, best to replace then with adjustable (for camber) polurethane bushes, Whiteline, Nolathane, SuperPro etc. Cheers Gary -
Just to clear it up, height adjustable coil overs aren't legal, never have been. Unless the car comes with them standard from the manufacturer. So producing a dated receipt for a set of height adjustable coil overs on an R32/33/34 won't help you one little bit. Cheers Gary

Right Tyre For 9.5" Rims?
Sydneykid replied to 08r3308's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
My rule of thumb is to use the width of the rim + 10%. So 9.5" = 241 mm + 10% = 265 mm Then one size smaller is OK (ie; 255 mm) or one size larger (ie; 275 mm) Now if only the tyre manufacturers would make their tyres the same size as they label them. For example I have a Yokohama 235 that is 239 mm wide and a 245 that is 242 mm wide. Yep, 10 mm larger on the sidewall is only really 3 mm according to Yokohama. Cheers Gary -

High Cr, Small Turbo Combination?
Sydneykid replied to works 510's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I don't think that compressor will have enough airflow to make meaningful boost at any decent rpm, after all 30 lbs per minute isn't whole lot. You can't just up the shaft speed as it physically won't handle it, plus it's just going to churn out hot air. Really it's too small a turbo for a decent 2 litre engine let alone a 3 litre. Cheers Gary -
Nice result, well done, that's a strong one Greg. What's the scale along the bottom of the dyno graph? RPM (1K to 10K) or KPH (0 to 200)? The 405 4wkw is around 675 bhp, so there should be plenty left in the 1000 cc injectors? Are you sure it will be necessary to go to 1600 cc's for E85? After all there is plenty of flow and pressure available from 2 x 044's, so lifting the fuel pressure is a no cost option if required. Cheers Gary

Someone will need to tell this ignoramus that every used car is lower than a brand new car, it's called settling and it happens to every car. The older the car, the more k's the greater the settling. The Recognition Documents for cars that are lodged by their manufacturer with DOTARS (for ADR approval) shows their new height. So his ministerial limo needs approval because it's lower than its recognition document height. Arrest him he's a hoon. Cheers Gary

Typical press release from politician who has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. Michael Daley quite obviously hasn't got a clue. A very confusing press release with conflicting wording and contradictory statements. We will just have to wait for the pubic service bureaucrats to sort out another mess created by their minister. Cheers Gary
