  1. From memory in 1997 we used PI as the test track, so Glen's time may have been not from a race, hence not a valid lap record. Always happened at PI, lousy weather for the race, or the wind changes off Bass Straight and a killer head wind knocks the top speed around. Regardless, having driven at both tracks a number of times I always feel that a lap of PI is faster in a car with plenty of horsepower. The higher top speed for an extended period plus a ~50% longer lap at PI makes it feel faster. I always had trouble adjusting to the speed at PI whenever I went back there after an abscence, something that was never an issue at Lakeside. Cheers Gary
  2. My guess is it ran so low on fluid that it now has air in the system, it will eventually bleed out. Cheers Gary
  3. The crush tube in the bottom eye of the shocks is tapered. Cheers Gary
  4. This is a good point, some people confuse intermittent traction with axle tramp. For it to be true axle tramp the wheels have to be recoiling up and down, while the chassis sits relatively flat. If there is noticeable side wall wide up and release of the tyres, then it's not axle tramp. If there is no vertical oscillation of the wheels, it's not axle tramp. If the chassis and the wheels move in unison, then it's not axle tramp. R32's are more prone to intermittent traction problems than R33/34's due to the more extreme lower control arm angles on the R32's. Plus, being older, the condition of the rear control arm bushes (upper and lower) in R32's is likely to be much worse. Add the two together, extreme angles + worn bushes, and its a recipe for traction loss Cheers Gary
  5. 96 lbs per hour = 1000 cc per minute (close enough anyway) Cheers Gary
  6. I had a short chat with the manager at Lansdowne today, he has locked the E85 pump until something is cleared up, wouldn't tell me what, why or when. So it's back to Rozelle for me. Cheers Gary
  7. There are plenty who don't get axle tramp, so there is something wrong with yours, you just haven't found it yet. Cheers Gary
  8. I might to dissagree with Harry, nothing new there. I believe Philip Island has a higher average than Lakeside. I was with Glen Seton in 1997 and we had data logging that showed PI at 173 kph average and Lakeside at 167 kph average. Glen had the lap record at Lakeside for a V8 SuperCar then and maybe he still does, so his Lakeside time wasn't slow. I don't recall him having the PI lap record though, so that just makes the difference greater if we use V8Supercar lap records as the test. Since PI has a higher top speed it wouldn't be fair to use the lap times of a top speed limited car, like an F3 for example with it's 26 mm restrictor limiting the KPH far more at PI than at Lakeside. Or a FVee which has a simple horsepower limit. So a V8Supercar, where the top speed isn't artifically limited, may be the best test available. Even if we use SuperTourers, which with 300 bhp and a bit, could be argued to have a limited top speed. PI at 173 kph still has a higher average than Lakeside at 165 kph based on Geof Brabham's and Jim Richards lap records. As for the best circuit, I rank it Bathurst, then PI and Oran Park together, but I really miss the challenge that was Amaroo Park. Cheers Gary
  9. So what? Cars that are even faster, much faster, don't have ECU's at all. So we should all change to that fuel injection system? Why not, based on your rating system, it's better than a Link? Cheers Gary
  10. Pass? There is no pass or fail, it's a rating, printed on the sidewall. Just like the current treadwear, traction, temperature, load carrying etc. All that happens is there are a few more ratings printed on the side of the tyre so the dumb asses have no excuse for complaining that they didn't know that their new tyres where noisy, or used more petrol etc. Nothing to worry about, move on. Cheers Gary
  11. They look like this, there is only one type And I buy them from http://www.tuffcarparts.com/ Cheers Gary
  12. Yep, R34GTS4 's are non turbo hence the same as R34GT's. Cheers Gary
  13. The R33/34 and Stagea S1 and S2 rear shocks are all the same length as are S14 and S15 Silvias. The R34GT has bushes at the lower mount on the rear shock like R33GTST and S1 Stagea autos The R34GTT has a fork the lower mount on the rear shock like R33/34GTR, S2 Stagea manuals and 260RS Cheers Gary
  14. There are basically 3 relevant ADR's; 500 mm headlight centre from the ground. 100 mm minimum ground clearance. 2/3rd suspension travel retained. The 500 mm headlights is never a problem for a R32/33/34, because the engine subframe would be scraping on the ground if the headlights were 500 mm or less. Even standard length shocks don't have a problem with retaining 2/3rd the travel at 345/335. Then there are the options of lower profile strut tops and shorter shocks if necessary, remembering that 2/3rds is metal to metal. The one that causes the most problem for R32/33/34's is the 100 mm minimum ground clearance, as the exhaust goes under the rear subframe. So a car with a 2.5" exhaust of decent design would have no problem with clearing 100 mm at 345/335. Even a 3" usually makes it, it's when you get to 3.5" and 4" exhausts that 345/335 isn't possible, there simply isn't enough room to fit that diameter exhaust under the subframe. So the simplistic Nazis that say 350/340 is the ADR height are completely incorrect, there is no such measurement specified. The fact is I could have one at 320/310 that fully complied with the ADR's, if I used the appropriate parts, oval exhaust, short shocks and low profile strut tops. Cheers Gary
  15. They will fit, but they won't "work". With close to 200 kgs more weight over the front wheels R33/34GTR front spring and damper rates are just not suitable for a 2WD. Then you have the rear, a 2 door coupe is hardly the same as a 4 door sedan. Cheers Gary
  16. Unless I'm mistaken he's in NSW, we don't have ignorant Nazis doing rego here like you do in SA. We actually follow the ADR's, which means 345/335 is OK as long as it has a well designed 3" exhaust and the bump stops have been trimmed. Cheers Gary
  17. We have OneHD on Foxtel via cable One of these for $149 does a great job on FTA digital HD. Cheers Gary
  18. It's definitely a journey, not a destination, you never stop developing, you learn more as you go along. For example I have been using Pi data loggers and dashes for over 19 years and I still learn new things every time I use one and Pi are continually bringing out updates and upgrades. I especially pick up stuff from the specialist data engineers whenever I hang around with a full time professional. They know so many tricks from working on it all day, every day. A few years back I spent a day with a guy (had a PhD in Electronics from Cambridge) who worked for Pi Research UK and was out here for 3 months on contract with HRT and I realised how much I didn't know about data logging. Cheers Gary
  19. Recalibrate an AFM, I don't think so. I have seen some dodgy stuff, like a resistor in series with the AFM so it reads lower voltage. Some guys call that recalibrating. There is some OK stuff too, like using a Z32 hot wire inside the GTR AFM body, which helps a bit, but not much. By far the best and cheapest method in a GTR is using the RB20/25DET AFM, lots of guys with GTST's upgrade to Z32 or Q45 AFM's so there are plenty of RB20/25DET AFM's floating around. Cheers Gary
  20. Eh, 15mm in 100kk's isn't "sagging", it's well in the region of "acceptable settling". Cheers Gary
  21. In IP Racing we allow a welded in piece the same thickness as the standard roof. Cheers Gary Cook NSW IPRA Eligibility Officer
  22. It should have been supplied with a Lateral Lock Kit already fitted to the Swaybar. Cheers Gary
