You b4st4rd5 are the ones turning my "3 day's work" upgrade into a 1 month+ wait!! yyaRHGHRGHHSHAHGRGH *puts head through monitor* lol.... *sob* I now remember thinking "Heh... BRIGHT!" when I saw the pink next to the other 4-5 cars waiting for work.

LOL @ NYTSKY and GTST I would just like to add: put aside 1k of your money for broken stuff. I'm getting a turbo upgrade and during the proceedings the mechanic has found: crack in exhaust manifold, radiator and associated lines bvggered, dump pipe is a POS with a kink in it and barely able to reattach it (2 bolts weren't even in properly). Coilpacks were replaced a while ago cos they were r0oted, water pump etc too. If they are working 'just ok' now, a power upgrade will show up the existing weak links amongst the stock parts. As others said, I'd sort out handling/braking before any more power IMO.

Wheel Shaking And Tram Lining
sl33py replied to sl33py's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I noticed the problems precisely from the moment I drove the car out of Jax Quickfit. I have NO doubt in my mind that they caused it, by A) selling me out of round tyres, B) poor setup/balancing of all wheels, and most significantly, a SERIOUS knock to my steering rack (educated guess) at some point in the proceedings. I've had one mate who watched a different workshop attempt to lift his GF's car, with the hoist positioned squarely under the steering rack. Oil all over the floor and bent parts galore. I wouldn't be surprised if something like this happened, just to a lesser degree, and they thought I wouldn't notice. -

Congrats on the buy Vlad, maybe you should get a decal like mine, just so we can be sure which hot pink 'line is yours

at the risk of offending the buyer, he should have got the inspection, regardless of the apparent condition of the car, unless he is a mechanic himself (and even then....). Buyer beware, nuff said. Enjoy your money and Theo enjoy your car I made an extra 1200 on a 10k car by going privately. Canberra is so small that one of the car yards I spoke to actually said "I have a young bloke after a civic! I'll take it off your hands cos I know he'll definitely buy it" I ended up discussing the matter openly with said young bloke, and selling it to him for a 'middle' price But then, I gots my "mad skillz" from my mum, who can and has sold ice to the eskimos hahah

Mine went bang on stock boost after 10 years I was planning on increasing the boost using a controller, but am waiting for a new turbo to go in. I dunno how anyone measures 'should be safe' I think it's very much a case of try it and see, and if it goes bang... '5h1t eh!'

^^^^^ This is what I was thinking Seems like a hit n miss method if u can't afford cams or shafts.

Saw a tired n dirty grey R31 going past the casino and a schmick white R34 going under the zebra crossing in the middle of Canberra Centre.

lol. Shit, where's my tv bonus ...errrrrr baby bonus!

OK, so its literally the angle it attaches to the engine. Thanks Rb2530, that's what I was after.
-
WTF does advancing a CAS mean??? I thought it either worked or didnt. Is it the equivalent of electrically fooling the engine into advancing the timing, but seems like the mod would be permanent. Is it literally just changing the angle the CAS is attached to the engine? Sounds like a pretty dodgy mod hahah

I guess he's saying that the quality of fuel you get depends on SO many things that you can't really go on the stories given here (or anywhere else really). Because it varies depending on: - The original content, who's sourcing it (Shell, BP etc... all comes from the same place originally, but I guess they place orders of varying quality). - The particular servo you fill up at. - Whoever's running the servo that month/week - Whoever decides to top up the premium tanks with the regular stuff after hours (I know a person who use to do this) - How hard your engine is tuned and therefore how susceptible it is tu fuel RON levels. - Partly impacted by the remaining fuel from your last load (unless you ran it completely empty). I'm paranoid about my car, and mechanic knows it, so gonna run a dual boost system and high boost will be 17ish (I think). Low boost for when I have to use crummy/suspect fuel. The way I see it, only absolute way to be safe from poor fuel is to use octane booster every load, or get your engine tuned so that if you DO get a poor load, there is some lee-way and your engine will handle it (ie a safe tune rather than a hard one). Is there such a thing as a home-based RON testing kit? lol What's it mean if the stick goes blue?

My clutch makes a little 'whirring' noise when I haven't got my foot on it. My mechanic says it's normal. You could ask a (trusted) mechanic to have a listen and see what he thinks.

God, I hate hard to diagnose problems like this. I feel for you guys! I had terrible shaking for about 6 months, and threw a lot of money at changing out parts to try and solve it (due to inadequate 'wheel specialists' being unable to properly diagnose the problem). Rekin, I see you've already done a lot of what I did (bushes/rack etc), and doubt your problem is related to mine, but for those with the shakes over 100kph, check this out: Steering wheel shakes at speed

Wheel Shaking And Tram Lining

Yep, that was brought up and checked a few times by one of the later wheel specialists to check out the car. These issues have since been solved. Cheers! -
There are companys you can approach to provide a warranty on your car for an initial cost (I believe). One example is the Australia Wide Warranty Network www.aswn.com.au Having said that, the quality of those kind of warranties really depends on the local workshop who they mandate will do any repair work. Plus you need to keep regular service records (which is fine for myself, but when someone is telling me I HAVE to, it's annoying ). I should have haggled money off the price of my car, because the locals who support the 'warranty' are a pack of cheating, lying mongrels who I wouldn't touch with a 10 ft pole.

OMG if I ever get an R34 it is going to be THAT colour. HOT.
