  1. You lot have it easy, you should try driving the Stuart Hwy around midnight between Alice Springs and Tennant creek. I was happily driving (not going to tell you what car i was driving needless to say it wasnt mine and wasnt a Skyline) and i see a roo sitting on the left hand side of the road facing towards the left. I thought not a prob. Then as i get close it gets this brilliant idea it should do a U turn and head across the road in front of me. I pumped the brakes and drove around it, needless to say the passangers in the car (one of whome was pissed) got the shock of their lives. But they where suitably impressed. Then of course there are the cattle that have thousands of hectares (i am not kidding here thousands) and they think standing in the middle of the stuart highway at night is the most comfortable place (might have something to do with heat radiated from the road and cold nights down the track). I have also done a defensive driving course where among other things they teach you to apply your own ABS on a wet stretch of tarmac. Highly recommended exercise to learn how to handle a car.
  2. I am just in the process of installing my fmic (600x300x75). I bought a plenum of a mate that had had it modified (he got a GREDDY item), they basically just did the cut'n'shut so it feeds from the front. This is the plan of attack 1) Buy wanky BOV (already done for $200) 2) Install FMIC (already done, FMIC cost $1100 with brackets welded on it, I had to remove front bumper and cut some steel out of the front along with shaving a fair bit of plastic of the rear of the bumper. Not Hard) 3) Get modified plenum (already done cost around $300) 4) Pull front bumper off again and cut a hole in the front driver side panel for outlet of FMIC to feed plenum. 5) Take car around to bloke who welds Stainless. He is going to weld 2 stainless pipes. The first simply goes from the inlet of the standard FMIC (no need to repipe that section) to the inlet of new FMIC. Second pipe will go from outlet of FMIC through the hole i am cutting to the inlet of the plenum, he will also plumb in my new wanky BOV. (i am told this should cost aound $200 to $300 parts included) 6) Take the pipes, plenum and car to my regular mechanic. Get him to get the throttle cable extended at a local motor bike shop, also connect the pipes up and tune it. (Again this i have been told will cost around $300 - $400 since PowerFC settings have to be changed). In short get the parts and organise / do it yourself. There is a lot more satisfaction in it. Oh and for a modified plenum go spend the extra cash and get it from Hills. I talked to him about it and it really sound like he did his homework.....
  3. Go the Power FC for sure. Else go for an Autronic. I know there are a lot of mechanics that like the Microtech but it is cheap and for a quality ECU the autronic is it. It even has self tune functionality. I didnt buy the Autronic because at that time the Autronic didnt have an adaptor loom for the GTS25t.
  4. Trust me swap your mechanical for a standard and hit the other party up for $600. Then get the standard LSD done with a clutch pack. When i was running my LSD in it was permanently locked (loosens up as you wear it in) i found that whenever i turned the locked action of the LSD wanted to drive me straight. I cant understand why it is a problem with it kicking out though, the skyline is heaps easier to fishy all over the road or drift when both wheels are locked together (more predictable than one wheel letting go then the other etc).
  5. Dont forget there is additional wear on all the bearings and bushes in your rear end everytime you park at the shops, everytime you turn that wheel under accelaration (which is often) there is additional torsional stresses on your axles etc. I have seen people with welded diffs snap axles because of this sort of stress (Not skylines). I had the option of getting that diff from JMS but i decided against it for the above reasons. I am very pleased with my diff at the moment and i invite any mechanic to join into this to give his opinion.
  6. Red17. You said that it was not illegal to lane split in stopped traffic! I thought the point of these forums was to NOT condone illegal activity. This isnt intended to be a personal attack in anyway (i know people will see it as one though) i am simply curious as to what degree a "Mac Op" has since you highlighted you had a degree?
  7. RED17. When i talked to the police in WA they said that if the motor bike rider is riding down the centre line he is essentially creating a lane of his own which isnt there by being there. This is what they told me made it ILLEGAL. But getting back to one of my earlier posts i could jump in a dirty big 4WD and drive up to the head of the line along the side embankment if i where to follow what you are saying. Because by what your statement anything is legal as long as the rest of the traffic is stationary. Fraid not. Out of interest if someone popped a mono on a motor bike or did a burnout in "STATIONARY" traffic is that legal aswell??? If i started flashing the high beams on my car while i was stationary in traffic is that legal??? Can i get away with anything in traffic as long as the rest of traffic is stationary?? I hope you are starting to realise how ridiculous what you are saying is. I realise you are not condoning this but to say that it is not illegal (ie there is a loophole) is wrong. FYI i have dual degrees, one of which is an engineering degree so yes i do agree with the statement engineers know best. We most certainly do
  8. I have a 3.5inch dump which narrows to 3inches (Exhaust Technology) just before the 3inch cat, then through the first then the second muffler and out the tip (3inch stainless cat back, JASMA). This system is quiet and has a nice low humming sound to it at idle. I have heard other systems (on GTS25t's) which have a loud crackly sound. The other day as i got out of my car i actually had someone come up to me and comment how nice and quiet it was. Obviously he had heard a lot of loud and crackly skylines aswell. What i am trying to get at here is go the twin muffler system (in series) since it is much more comfortable on the ears and the canary collection. I should know i used to have a RX7 ser3 with 12A (large carby) and an almost straight through 2.5inch press bend exhaust. I still get a headache thinking about the loud crackling sound it made when revved. You should easily be able to pick up a Jasma cat back unit cheap and then take it to an exhaust place and get them to make up a mild steel dump pipe.
  9. My car isnt tuned to well at the moment so i keep a good eye on the knock sensor (the little bar and the peak figure). Here is what i know. Firstly providing you have an option set (cant remember where it is, i think it is in the menu where you select yes and no in japanese) in that menu then if the knock goes above 60 it will flash the check engine light. I have been told 60 is BAD but if you see it peak up around 30-40 it wont kill your engine (providing you dont see 30-40 all day everyday) but repeated excursions to that amount of knock wont help the engine. I know that there is a person in this forum who is a total gun with the power fc. He could tell you more, i just dont know his nick.
  10. Come close. The hogs up here arent exactly as narrow as the honda's down in sydney. Anyway i dont understand the argument over this because it is illegal to lane split full stop. There is NO situation where it is legal to do it, it is as stupid as the twits that weave in an out of lanes in peak hour traffic to get 20metres further ahead. Oh yeah Merli say hi to ol' mate Penlington from me next time you see him.
  11. You would if they scraped the side of your car or you where changing lanes coming up a set of lights and he was splitting lanes.
  12. PeakRPM i think what you are trying to say (in pictoral form) is :whackit: :whackit: :whackit: :whackit: :whackit: :whackit: :whackit: :whackit: :whackit: And for the record i totally agree
  13. Damn Straight. Go the R33 anything else is a compromise :bahaha:
  14. no point, wont make a difference. Anyway any and all data that it wants to remember will be stored in NVM (non volatile memory) which you wont affect by cycling the power.
  15. $1200 (exchange) as always Unique Auto Sports in sydney The picture is from their site and it is actually my diff. http://202.139.242.57/Images1a/Skyline%20p...rts/r33diff.jpg
  16. This question has been asked by how many people now???? NO the standard BOV cant be vented to free air and you would probably need a programmable ecu to run the standard one venting to free air. Turbosmart have a valve that has both a pipe that recirculates the air to keep the ecu happy and at the same time a vent to free air (with trumpet :whackit: ) for the :whackit: wank :whackit: factor that everyone seems to need.
  17. Again unique autosports in sydney http://www.uniqueautosports.com.au http://202.139.242.57/Images1a/Skyline%20p...rts/bluer33.jpg And no GTR front bar wont fit since the front guards on GTR are different to GTS. Anyway get 400R front bar, heaps meaner
  18. unique autosports in sydney $650 http://202.139.242.57/Images1a/Skyline%20p...rts/bluer33.jpg
  19. I saw a diff similar to what yours probably is on the JMS site for around $1200 (they where having problems selling it) and i know that the standard diff in good condition supposedly goes for around $800 from a wrecker. Mind you the standard LSD is crap. I had mine rebuilt about 2months ago with a clutch pack centre and fark me does this hang on now. I can accelarate heaps harder through corners and out from a T intersection since it doesnt loose grip on one wheel and start fishying as easily.
  20. Well the reason i fell in love with the R33 is because of dare i say it the NISMO 400R body kit available for it. http://www.skylinesdownunder.com/skylinepi...pics/r33no1.jpg Feel free to TRY and dig up a picture of a kitted R32 that looks anywhere near as mean as the 400R. Note 400R front bumper $595 Nismo Style rear wing $595 400R Side Skirts $450 400R Rear bumper and spats $495 400R style Carbon bonnet $1095 ie around $3K and you have a R33 GTSt that looks like a 400R!!!!
  21. Its amusing that this is coming from an R32 owner. I dont see an R33 owner agreeing with you.
  22. R32 is supposedly smaller and more of a race car, the RB20DET responds better to mods than the RB25DET. The R33 is larger heavier and has a 2.5ltr with more acessories. Note i have heard that the RB25DET is more temperamental and difficult motor to extract power from. But i havent found this and i wouldnt swap my R33 GTSt for an R32 under any circumstance. Oh yeah the R33 also looks heaps meaner than the R32 any day of the week.
  23. If you knew the ratio of stroke to bore diameter on both the cars you would most likely see why the XR6t doesnt rev much.
