  1. Congrats! How's this - I heard about this on the SilWA cruise from some random at about 9:00. "ant's done a 10.98 and been told to keep driving". News sure travels fast! he didnt take the spare out - but a cage will weigh more than the spare - next time. nah - don't think so.....
  2. one interesting way to look at it may be this: currently, there are some things (though not so much laws) etc. which the police will not strictly uphold. these relate to their own legal liability etc. for instance, I beleive that it is common practice for police not to resuscitate head injury cases because they run the risk of a lawsuit if the person survives but is brain damaged. similarly, they will only approach violent self-harm people under certain circumstances because the law basically does not protect them enough - and later on it could be argued in a civil case that a person had harm influcted on them as a result of the police officer's actions. the question then, is whether a policeman could reasonably apply this law in the field without concern over repurcussions when, if someone (wealthy enough) thought they had been unfairly singled out, they could be held to account - at their own financial/legal risk. i.e., if someone was to be stipped of assets on the basis of predjudice against race/vehicle type etc, they may have grounds for appeal against the officer, as well as through the normal legal process..... however, this still does not address the issue of equality and uniformity of application, since there would still be no impetus on any police-person to apply the law unless they felt it warranted. so you still have the situation where the guy in the courier truck that nearly cleaned me and about 4 other cars up today on beaufort street (running an intersection) may receive a talking to but an import driver would (probably/likely/possibly - ?) have their car impounded.
  3. taken form my post in a similar thread on SilWA : 60 people killed due to reckless and dangerous driving....... ok, in order to appreciate what this means, you need to define what reckless driving or dangerous driving are. I suspect that the majority of the people have died as a result of doing 30 kms over the speed limit and binning an excel. I also understand that "dangerous driving" charges can be laid on anyone who causes more than $1000 (? or is it 2?) damage to another vehicle. meaning, if I backed into a car in a carpark, I would be dangerous......or if I had a head on smash with someone and we were both doing the limit on a wet/slipperry road. i.e. nearly any accident where someone dies involves an act of recklessness or dangerous driving. my gripe then, is that excels doing 30 kms ove the speed limit are not the cars that will be confiscated.... the cars which do get confiscated will be left to police discretion (within limits) and will likely also be the cars which currently receive disproportionately high rate of work order stickers..... and on this basis, I beleive that the proposal is a direct response to the media beatup regarding "hooning", and is intended to specifically target the sports/performance car population.
  4. hahaha. who's feeling sorry for themselves now eh? c'mon put your hands up! the room is so quiet....and the fan in your computer is churning away at the mushy parts of your brains....and you're holding on to the keyboard in the hope that it will stop the room from swaying like a small boat on a big ocean..... and by lunchtime you'll need to go outside to get some fresh air, away from the clostrphobic confines of your cubicle and the masses of concrete and all the people that keep talking to you and piling work into your in tray... bwahahaha :One million dollars:
  5. bam - they seem to be the same price as early 90s sr20 s13s..... which makes me wonder why you'd buy a silvia??
  6. this thread is beginning to horrify and scare me.
  7. congrats lynx. lynx, you wouldnt happen to be basketball lynx would you?
  8. I left stains on the back seat...... manual - I think that you'd best ask bam about it. he's an honest guy. I dont think that starting a thread on an internet forum about a guy is a particularly good way to buy a car.
  9. dunno. thinking about it...... but i'd probably break something that I can't afford to fix.....
  10. dan - tyres would stick better when theyre cleaner, so once or twice round might improve it, but street tyres dont like heat - just ask anyone whose driven 5 laps on a circuit at flat tack on street donuts - so I reckon youre much better off leaving them cool. dan - you going down tonight? cam and I probably will.....
  11. does it feel funny watching the carrion scoundrels pick over the bones?
  12. and if you lock a thread - is it possible to say why > ?
  13. 3000 to 3500 launch, 6500 shift on factory dump, 6850 with high flow exhaust all the way through. factory dump (apparently) causes breathlessness above about 6500. Not that I can speak from experience mind. oh yeah, and resist the temptation to do a one wheel burnout to impress the trevs in the bleachers. just drive around the water and park it. if you want to know how the drags/timing/lights work, ask the guys down there. theyre megga helpful and very friendly. theyre much happier to have you ask than for you to do the wrong thing...... their patience isnt so good then. other than that, smile, and when the adrenaline kicks in at the end of the straight, dont forget to brake. seriously. I nearly didnt!
  14. nah, rob has an american eagle with a stock (last time I saw it - which was about 10 days ago?) r33.
  15. HIPSI are you heading down tonight? lol @ "unless you are physically or mentally handicapped"
  16. :shudders imagining what it would cost in transport and insurance: paul, with this be run as a team event with a specific number of entrants per team, or is it as many people in the team as want to enter?
  17. here here. i think this is a good idea. that way it allows the topic of conversation to continue and the person posting offensive/unnecessarily off-topic stuff is then made aware of the fact that it's offensive. this wasnt supposed to be a blame or criticism thread - and I can see it turning in to one..... - instead just some constructive discussion about how we can control what is causing threads to be locked - cause reading a BB which has every second thread locked is kinda ....boring.
  18. that's probably a bit over-optomistic. gus and dan have both recorded good results with pfc - and on the basis of their outputs, a reliable 280ish is probably reachable. paul and steve managed to scrape a bit more out his factory turbo and wolf setup, to take it past 300, but the turbs didnt last long..
  19. joe - just a general observation. not picking out a single moderator or a single thread.
  20. I'm with adrian - 8 sec GTR?? I assume that this is a big power R that is theoretically capable of pulling an 8, rather than one of the eatern states/NZ 8 sec gtrs?
  21. hipsi - more likely a high 13.
  22. fraser, I just figured out who you are - you're little fraser. as in friends with big fraser and rob. not many people here will remember obsession dude. :taps nose: adrian - you shirt off !?! ew! oily raver residue!
  23. kym, I have noticed that there are a few threads which have been locked and I'm not sure why. granted there are a few threads that have gone off topic and been locked, but there are some that just turn up "locked' with no explanation. ?
