  1. Sweet. I've been looking to regass my aircon since I had to undo the gas pipe to fit my front pipe on my R32 and lost all my gas, but I didn't want to convert it to R-134. With Melbourne hitting 40 degrees, It's becoming more necessary. If there is a Hychill regasser in the eastern suburbs of melbourne, I'm there.
  2. Wow. Surprised it took until the 5th for the first ferreri bash of the year. As for me, I'll be backing Heiki. I hope he gives Lewis a spanking.
  3. To Paraphrase Princess Clara from Drawn together: "BKC's assulting me like the English language!"
  4. .... Do they even sell passion pop anymore? Two groups arc up at each other, and it looks like one kid got in the middle to bust it up, and got killed for his trouble. Damn, people need to take themselves less seriously. Almost makes you wish the kids were smoking pot instead. Then the only argument would be about who had to call up pizza hut. And it took a passing motorist to try to bandage him up. Give that guy maximum credit. Saw a brawl, pulled over, helped the kid out (although he didn't save him) and probably stopped further deaths by breaking the fight up with his presence. It's great to see that not everyone just ignores people in trouble. Give that man an award. We need more people willing to help out others in trouble.
  5. not to mention that Webber raced in torrential rain.
  6. I use the R34 and R35 for grip races, and do not have a problem with them. The viper for drags gets me 7.1's and 500m wheelstands, another viper for high speed (only because I won it) an RX-7 and supra for drift. The 911 seems to have a bit more grunt than the R35 down low, but it's not too hard to beat in the new GTR. Haven't got the dosh for the zonda yet, but plan on using it for the high speed runs. All up, the game is a good one. It's kind of like the bastard child of NFS U2 and GT4. The drifting takes a while to get used to. If you've been playing juiced 2 (which I had) it's totally the opposite end of realism. When you start a drift, if you want to tighten the turn, whack the hand brake. If you want to loosen it, get on and off the gas quickly. You can usually back up a bit from the start line to get more speed into the first turn, which makes it easier to link the drifts. only use nitro when you're losing momentum, or in a long curve near the outside. Still, it's a fun game, though the high speed runs are a bit poo. Nice to see the cossie in there though.
  7. No one is dsiputing the R35 is the better car at all, but saying that the R32 was a bigger advancement at the time than the R35. 1.What does the R35 have that no other car does? no really that much. most of the technology has been used elsewhere previously. The R32 had more prototype technology in it. HICAS may not have been used much in racing, but it was available and new at the time as far as I know. The twin turbo setup was a first for a mass produced petrol engine. 2.What has the R35 done? So far, not much. Until it's acheived something, it's just a bauble. Much like the Ferrari Enzo. All show, no result. A race car that does not race is nothing but a matchbox car supersized. No need to list the R32's acheivements here. We all know them. 3.How much better is it than it's competitors? R35: perhaps a little bit. Time will tell. The nuburgring times seem to state that it'll outperform most cars by a small margin. How dominant it is will be refelected in it's race eprformance. r32: Pooped on most other cars in all forms of racing it entered. Also something to consider is the other racers. Remember the touring cars? The Ford and Holden drivers were pissed! Yet, if any one of them had their choice of car to race in to win, you can guarantee they'd pick the R32. Ditto for all the race fans not bred to be little lions or falcons. The R35 does not have the same mystique. Ask a kid who watches racing what his dream car is, and he might mention a ferrari, lamborghini, whatever. The R35 has much closer competition than the R32 did. So, I'd say the R32 WAS a bigger step forward. It influenced the whole racing world, kick started the japanese performance vehicle scene (remember that "Made in japan" was a joke until late 70's/ early 80's) and revolutionised racing. The R35 is a better car, but hasn't had anywhere near that impact (yet). It's kind of like comparing Alonso to Senna. Alonso is a champion, but he wasn't so far ahead of his competitors when they had similiar cars, whereas Senna won in all conditions with some top notch cars, and some pretty ordinary ones, against obscenely talented drivers. The R35 is closer to it's competitors than the R32 was, so it'll have a much harder time of it. Still, it'll be worth watching.
  8. back on topic, I think people are confusing the R35 GTR with the Skyline GTR's. It's not a skyline. It's not a daily driver that's had a magic wand waved over it. It's a (relatively) cheap supercar. It's designed to be a collectors piece from day one. Handmade engines, new technology, advanced driver aids, this isn't a car for the street, it's a car you either tune for racing, or a bauble you brag to your other banker/ footballer friends about owning. Maybe in five years time, things may change. They may make a more mass produced model, resulting in more cost effectiveness. To be honest, I can't see much profit coming directly from the R35. The price point seems too low for the amount of labour, research, development etc. that went into it, so it seems like it's a hero car, an example of what they can do, more than an attempt at making a supercar for the common man. due to the low volume, I don't expect it to drop dramatically in price like the skylines. I also don't imagine that there'll be the same amount of aftermarket support, unless the volume of cars produced is upped. To be fair though, if the R35 lives up to hype, Nissan would be stupid not to capture that reputation and make a new skyline based on that technology, possibly a stagea too. Simplify it a bit, mass produce everything and THEN you'd have a car that tuners would love. (cheaper too) It's really comparable to the supercar range. The only real mods that supercars get done to them are paint, wheels, interior and LCD screens everywhere. I can't see it being cost effective to ship an engine to Australia in less than 5 years, and that's being optimistic. Though, if I'm wrong, and somehow the engines magically become cheaper and more plentiful, I'd love to see one in an R32, of course I would. But as long as the onyl way you can get it is to buy the whole car, why would you?
  9. I'd like the Stig to get the job, simply because he has a history of not playing well with team-mates. If Hamilton pisses him off, he'll dispose of him like he did with the "Black stig" Some people say it was due to brake failure when he tried to drag off a Harrier jump jet on the deck of an aircraft carrier in a nitrous jag, but investigations reveal that white stig was involved. So if Lewis get's invited to drive a jag, we know what'll happen next.
  10. The question remains; Is an intake modification considered an engine modification? I'm pretty sure you'd be allowed to get a bigger exhaust (provided noise was kept legal) so I can't se a problem with the othert end of the engine. You could probably successfully argue that the engine is completely stock, which it is, and your car keeps with the letter of the law. The wasy I read it is that they're trying to keep p-platers out of bored and stroked engines. I think that if you were being a tool on the road, the copper would pull you over and give you a ticket. If not for the pod then for noise or anything he could think of. They consider it part of their job to make life difficult for hoons. If you're driving sensibly, I don't think you'd have a problem. I've only been pulled over once in my skyline, and that was when it had no plates on, as I was on my way to compliance. I've even been waved through plenty of bretho's etc, although, I am not on my P's, so it's not quite the same. I reckon you'd be safe, but the risk is up to you really.
  11. you rarely get done for turning right, because the camera takes a picture when you're already in the process of turning, then once you're almost perpendicular. If it's day time it can be a bitch to make out the plate on an angle, and with reflections it's even harder. Plus, if it was going for so long, then there's probably a horde of people in the same boat. They might try it on and send you a fine if they can read your plate, but I think you have very little to worry about.
  12. I wouldn't say McLaren are any dirtier than the rest, they just got caught. Ferrari decided the constructors championship in the court rooms, I imagine McLaren never expected to get the appeal upheld, but it's probably more about politics. The records will show that they were punished for dodginess and Ferrari were not, and it's now a part of legal records, so if Ferrari get into the poo again, they can dredge this up as a bad precedednt, or if McLaren get pinged for minor infringements, they can consider this ruling a precedent set that lets them off scot free. I expect they just want it on record as a "get out of jail free card" or a sh!tball they can drop on the FIA if Ferrari get away with anything next year. It's all politics.
  13. I've seen a couple of these around, saw one on chapel st last monday. Very, very nice. +1 for pics
  14. low 60's? damn, why would anyone buy a new falcodore? even the FPV and HSV models are not as good as the Evo X, and they cost more! .....sigh why did it have to be priced so affordably? Now I'll just HAVE to get one at some stage.
  15. FOR SALE: 1 soul (used, but in good condition, has log books, though no service history) asking price: That car.
  16. Mention engines yes great goodness to move car is. GT-R NEW 2008 make much happy happy fun time on track or road. GTR Older R34 much very good car but no up latest engines technologic before advances 3.8 = bigger filling of hole with the juice and more much internal goodness of happy explosion. More make pushing forward and thrust into back seat of. Taught grammar by Yoda I was.
  17. ...... And here we have the handy foot remover, guaranteed to pluck that offending extremity out of your mouth. Buy now, save later! only $19.95
  18. I can't see schuey suiting up again, more is the pity. Ferrari already have two drivers, he's not going to go to a second string team, and no one else competitive could afford him even if Ferrari let him go (unlikely). It'd be great to see what he could do alongside Hamilton, but really, Schumacher IS ferrari's golden boy, and to see him in anything else would be more than a little odd. I love to see it, but I'm highly skeptical.
  19. THings to look for: Honda to suffer reliability issues early in the season as they get used to a whole new car. Ferrari to claim Brawn stole their technical documents, and was dobbed in by his local green grocer. ITV to once again jump on the Button band wagon before relaising after a few races that not only was his old car a "dog" but Button isn't that good anyway, though expect him to be hailed as the next best talented after Hamilton if Lewis crashes out of a race.
  20. what are the specs on the 17 inch? same except for screen size?
  21. Well, I was just wondering if anyone was interested in metal vents for the R32 (though possibly others later) Simply put, I have a mate who does 3d laser scanning as a business, and he can create a cad image down to .01 of a mm. This is then put into a lathe that cuts out the shape from aluminium, or used to create a die which is then moulded. Cost is unknown at the moment, I'm going to try to see what the best way of making them would be, wither it'd be moulding or lathing, though end price may be anywhere from $60 a pop up to who knows what. If it's lathing, then the factor would be metal blanks, if it's moulding then it'd be all about the tooling. Has anyone done this before? anyway, just wondering if it's worth persuing, if there is any interest. I know a lot of people have the plastic ones break, and they're about $100 a pop from nissan. I haven;t even considered painting yet, although brushed aluminium could be OK, I guess most people would want a black matte finish. Regardless, anyone think it's worth researching further?
  22. I can't see them dumbing down tthe new GTR, it's supposed to be a hero car, releasing a GTR-lite version would make it less god-like. Still, they can always use the things they've developed to bring out a 4 door SKYLINE badged version, that looks a little more pedestrian. Sure, making it a 4 door would mean a complete redesign, but it'd be more about modifying the current plans than starting from scratch, and turf out all the driver aids, add in a small single turbo'd engine and you've got a bang for your buck motor that could compete with the 4 door market, in either 2wd or 4wd segments. The problem would be the chassis code though. It couldn't be R35, or else it's just a 4 door GTR, it's got nothing to do with the R34, and anything else just isn't skyline, and R34.5 sounds crap. anyway, as long as they emphasise the skyline part, they can differentiate it from the GTR. Lose the fancy gadgets, add in a 6 speed transaxle, square up the appearance and it's a whole different car for a whole different market, and because of its more basic tech package, it's a fair bit cheaper too.
  23. Ok, the hottest gossip at the moment is who will be McLarens no.2 driver. Now that we are all well aware that it's a money and ego thing, why not put another driver in there who can sell merchandise, revive excitement and make people watch? Why not put a Senna in the seat? Bruno Senna (Ayrtons nephew) is currently in GP2, and doing OK. Not great mind you, but just OK. However, considering when leaving McLaren at the end of 1993, Ayrton Senna had said: "If you think I'm good, just wait until you see my nephew Bruno". That endorsement alone would raise interest. Apparantly Gerhard Berger is his mentor though, so he may recommend Bruno avoid McLaren like the plague. Still, to see another Senna in a McLaren, well, let's justy say I'd buy the merchandise, and I'm sure a lot of other people would too, and with the support from the team, we could see some excitement if he battles with Hamilton. So, there's my vote.
  24. Nice work. Will look sweet at Auto Salon I've been thinking of racing stripes for my car too, though I'm partial to the twin, pver the bonnet type. Had my graphic designer GF photochop some onto the car to get a look, I might get it done some day, though I'm weighing up getting them vinyled or sprayed when the car gets a full spray.
  25. "The shiny piece of automobile history was stolen on Monday night from a workshop in Perth's east suburban Osborne Park by thieves who forced open a padlock." they had about a million bucks worth of automobile, and secured it with a freaking padlock? And the theives had time to MOVE the other cars? Sounds like it's either a scam, or they don't give a f$%k about their customers cars. Why secure a 600k vehicle with a $2.95 padlock? If the owner isn't in on the scam, expect there to be murders soon.
