  1. Not so. The shaken cost (compulsory bianual insurance) increases with the age of the car and every time you go for shaken the mechanic will recomend more things be replaced to keep it in top notch condition costing the owner a mint. Another reason people dont have older cars is cos this whole society is really flakey and superficial and no one wants to be seen in a car older than 5 years including people who know apsolutely nothing about cars. They buy them cos they look cool or have a pretty color so you can get any kind of person driving a skyline. And as almost everyone lives in the city there is little chance of giving it a good thrash cos you put the pedal down for 2 seconds and your lining up at another set of lights, its neverending. The number of ferraris i pass doing 30kms an hour with no hope of anything more in sight is crazy, but they dont care as long as they look cool. The fact of the matter is most people dont drive very often here. If youve seen the traffic youd understand, plus the public transport is incredible. I dont have a car here and would never bother. on a motorbike what takes me 30 minutes in resonable traffic and 1hour in peak hour would take you almost 2 hours if not more in a car. bumper to bumper traffic for one 10km stretch of my journey and i just fly streight down the middle. A train to kyoto express takes about 40minutes. i did the trip in a car and one way was almost 4 hours and return was 3. f#$k that thanks ill take the train. And so will 95% of the rest of the population which still leaves a heap of people to pack the roads. (Dont forget osaka is the 3rd most densly populated city in the world) ive been to plenty of auction and the kms are always low. Also I got offered a job certifying speedos on cars at the port before they are shipped and they get a little label. Just for some import companies though. Regardless these engines go forever in an average use situation whether its done 90 or 110 000 km isnt really gonna matter if its stock and in good nick. The cost people advertise to get you an import are also usually a load of s#$t. I can tell you half of what they charge you for doesnt even exist. And if they are giving you an increadably low price they maybe writing their own reciepts so your pay extra on your auction price. The Industry is just full of scammers and its very difficult to convince people your not one of them so I only usually deal with people i know or someone has recomended me too. Good example is some people importing wrxs cut in half and welded back together then using the rego from a wreck. People died when they started coming apart. In skylines check the fire wall. They will pull the whole lot out of one and weld it into an uncomplied(if not stolen) gtr. always get a mechanic to check it. end of rant.
  2. There are laser jammers for around 400 dollars for sale in australia. They dont nessesarily know you jammed them because there are various error messages on a laser gun. Aparently australian lasers can detect jamming from devices overseas but there are others that have been design specifically for these lasers so they wont know it was you. There are various reason a lasser can give the operator an error signal. But if you are pulled over, the emitters are not that subtle if you know what they look like. you can also get radar detectors that are built into the car so theres nothing to see and/confiscate. these are also anti detector detectors (vg2) but build in ones are more expensive. there are only a few models that are effective in detecting multinovas. yes, laser detectors are pretty much usless, unless it can jam them too...
  3. Are there two vortex fuels? I dont quite get it.
  4. There's a really cool engine design, the Quasiturbine engine. check it out www.howstuffworks.com/quasiturbine.htm or www.quasiturbine.com I think ill leave steam to my great grandfather.
  5. Ultimate is 98, vortex is 96, optimax is 96. So ultimate is going to better for minimising pinking ect. Here in Japan its better again. The difference of putting standard vs premium in my motorbike here is crazy!
  6. I had the same situation but the cop was ok he just said if you havnt been fined or had a warning then they can give you a warning but if youve already had a warning or been fined they cant warn you again, so I got a ticket so I guess he wasnt ok. Another story, I was about 16 and walking home from a party blind drunk, some cops pulled over and started hastling me, one of them said he was gonna wipe my nose off my face (i was a little cheaky) anyway i asked them for their badge numbers, told them i knew my rights and they took off, with smoke and excessive noise. The week before two cops had been caught on tape beating some pissed guess in the park in the middle of the day. Got pulled up (around 17 in school uniforms) and cops told me to get out but told my mate to stay in the car I was trying to be real nice and get off but my mate got out of the car and when they told him to get back in he said "what you think im gonna shot you or something" after that i wasnt getting out of anything. Another time much more recently some cops pulled over when i was walking home from a big night out and asked whats going on, again I was cheeky but in a friendly kind of way and ended up talking them in to giving my mate a lift home (I was 100m away from mine at the time) so theyre not all bad. I agree that even if they are complete pr#$ks its better to be polite cos there is a million ways they can f#$k with you. I have more stories to prove it but I probably shouldnt say...
  7. Just went on there online system to get a qoute and after filling in the first page it said in big flashing yellow letter "vigil does not insure nissan skylines" Whats with that?
  8. Its mint, condition 4.5. Small scratch on the front left. Do you want an Auto?
  9. My first car was a hx panel van with a blower out of the bonnet, dumped, huge tyres and mags, buble window and it was loud. I couldnt go anywhere without the cops pulling me over even just cruising around. Whenever they stoped me they expected to see a complete bogan with a pack of winny blues up my sleave when they came to the window (it was a beautiful car though, show room condition) So I sold it and bought a vl turbo. very neat but didnt stand out, did everything possible underneath the bonnet but out side it was a sleeper. Never even got a glance from the cops but it went. Now I have a skyline and im still not into standing. I hope in the future my car wont be a cop magnet because ive been there and it sucks. people trying to make that happen are my enemy.
  10. Yeh, just asked a japanese co-teacher about using ohayo in a simular situation to hajimemashita or yuroshiku onigaishimas and she gave me this weird look like "what the f%&k are you talking about? without actually saying it. I explained the situation and discussion, she just shock here head and none verbally said "thats just bulls%$t" Kinda made me feel stupid for asking ps that includes asking teachers of the older generation, though ive never considered teachers to be the people most intouch with whats going on in the real word.
  11. Being written in Katakana would tip you off its probably not a japanese word (and my japanese student sitting next to me) and since no one understands it, I will also go with nonsence.
  12. I live in Osaka, Umeda believe it or not. Yes its busy but very "convenient" have been here for 2 years. started at nova (hated it but mainly the company, students and some co workers were cool)worked in umeda so 5 minutes walk to work. Quit and started work in a JHS. finish my contract in late march and its time to go. Came to japan to do something different before getting trapped in career/mortgage or simular pitfalls. Also wanted to do importing and did/doing a little but the 15 year rule kinda screwed my plans. Doing a little travel and then heading to perth with my girlfriend to continue my career as a geologist. and get away from polution, excessive concret and teaching.
  13. And more quotes............. Have you ever had a japanese person say ohayo to you when its not the morning? I asked alot of japanese and they all sad its wrong. If you said it they wouldnt say anything so as not to offend you, unless you know them well in which case they may laugh at you as has happened to me before when ive said it by accident (ie: at 12:30 ohayo gozaimas. reply: ohaiyo janai yo! reply: gomene konichiwa. reply: so des ne!). the only time its used anytime of the day is in mass media ie advertisements acording to my questions. Correct me if im wrong but every japanese person I know cant be wrong, can they? If they can let me know and i will begin interigating them further! (also not looking for a fight) I figured maybe someone is taking the piss. ie teaching someone to say bempi deska instead of genki deska and watching someone walk around for the next few days greeting japanese staff by asking them if theyre constipated. or telling someone opi mesete kudasai is a nice way of asking a girl if she wants a drink. Everyone knows the stupid kanji tatoos people get which my girlfriend and I saw while on holiday in thailand recently. As well as that we saw alot of knock off deisel t-shirts with katakana on the back. It was funny to see masive dudes with their new muscle shirts walking around looking tough with franchesca written in bold across their chest or back. by the way has everyone seen engrish.com?

    Jobs In Japan?

Certainly dont wanna put you off. I rekon you should go for it, youve always got options good to go into things with all bases covered but everyones situation is different, so what the f&*k do I know? love it or hate it, it would be a great experience for anyone to get out of their comfort zone and learn a bit about other people/cultures.
  15. Oh... never saw that before, oh well its worth watching twice
  16. The first two character (kenka/kenga) appear on suspensions searches for sale on the net and the last two are the kanji for device (souchi). Suspension doesnt usually appear written this way in conjunction with device so thats why my girlfriend said its kind of strange or specialised? Although the direct translation says suspension device really it only says suspension. Beer barron, my girlfriend is in the same boat as your mate being native japanese but not knowing a great deal about cars (with perseverence i am changing this)
  17. If you havent been to japan you should still get it but its great. Japanese have a sense of humour! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8c2fMDatoU
  18. 改造内容 custom contents 懸架(suspension)装置(device) 原動機(engine) (過給機)turbo [形式・類別]Type 06134・004 My girlfriend says the characters that are used apear to be specific to someone who knows about cars ie mechanic so appears quite unusual (ie ask someone who speaks english about car parts theyve never real heard of) but kanji works a little different so they can guess without knowing the exact meaning. Looks like a kind of internal catalogue memo, not for customers. Thats the best I (we) can do.
  19. 改造内容 懸架装置 原動機(過給機)[形式・類別]06134・004 = Customer sach engine turbo type 06134.004
  20. Yeh, importing under the personal import rule saves you the cost (approximately 4000$) of getting it complied through a raws. It just has to be regestered simular to a 15 year import, minimal costs.
  21. Yeh, was going to say "i'm in Ikeda now" but thought you may have been talking about someone! Thanks for the info

    Jobs In Japan?

Yeh, what streeter said. You could meet a really cool chick but if she is too tight with her pairs its a waist of your time cos they will treat her like a child and make all her decisions for her and she'll go along with it because generally thats the rule not the acception. Most chicks are still living at home until they marry so it can be hard to get them away from the parents influence. One of my mates has been going out with a chick for 3 years and her parents dont know because they dont want her to have a boyfriend while she is studying medicine. she tells her parents shes staying at a friends house so it kind of works... (shes 25, sounds crazy right but...) another mate got a girl and she was 30, she asked her parents if she could stay over at his house, they said no so that was the end of that. Ive met quite few cool chicks but when you subtly sus-out the situations you can tell nothing good will come of it, unless its just for the night... there are alot of situations where someone has come back to japan with a chick theyve met only for her to warp into a different person as she conforms to all the presures around her (because thats what japanese people do), unfortunately these people are sometimes married. As far as falling behind through lack of japanese skills your totally right, but i found after a little while even the most basic attempts to comunicate in shit japanese would earn big points

    Learning Japanese

Quote The best one I have used is a video called Let's Learn Japanese which is about Yan-San and his wacky adventures. It is from 1984 so it is full or weird funny retro stuff but i am finding it really helpful. The adventures of yan-san are f"#ing hilarious! its really cheasy and i recon its even older than 1984, maybe even late 70's. I love in the beginning yan, the imigrant gets picked up from the airport and they're driving in the new car (late 70's corona type thing) and the owner kind of nods his head for yan to look at the amazing electric arial pop up from the boot, and hes well pleased with himself, Classic stuff. Pimsluers is really good for speaking\listening practice as mentioned and you should find it at www.torrentspy.com or isohunt or something simular.
  24. When I bought my first two cars In I was told by a few people that I could get away with not de-gasing as they thought it wasnt really enforced but the broker told me they were becoming more strict and the consequences for being cought was not worth it for the measly sum it cost to get done. The people ive helped get personal imports have all bought newer cars so the gas has never been an issue. If it had It would neither have been a profit or an inconvenience to have it removed, per car I think it works out to 6000 yen
