Slowly stripping it, and accumulating parts for it. Now have front brakes mostly sorted, new front struts (sold the old ones to Jeff), and have a pair of turbos for it. In the midst of some major changes on the personal front (might be going to USA for 6 months, as well as looking at building a new house) so the K will have to take a back seat for several months. Still have to get around to sending the wheels down to you. Haven't had a chance to get time off work for a while. Lachlan: Looks better now it's lowered. If the excess camber causes problems, it can be remedied with a few small mods (as per my earlier PM's to you).
-
Yep, I can vouch for that - it looks just as good in the flesh!! I'm inspired again!! How'd you go with lowering the rear, Lachlan? Any dramas with tyres rubbing on the guards?

Can I Put A V8 In My R31
warps replied to ROCKETRACERKING's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
There's a V8 C110 around here, a V8 C210 as well as a V8 R33 (I think). No reason you can't put a V8 in an R31. Make sure it's a late model block though, as you might have rego / epa issues putting an early block into a late car. Lucky for you the RB30 is a heavy lump of an engine, so just about any V8 is going to be lighter. (mmm LS2 anyone???) -
No Adam, they won't fit. As you can see below, they fit much better on the front of mine Still need to sort something out for the back though.

There were 2 series of the GTS. Series 1 (all white with the rectangular tail lights) had 130kW, and Series 2 (all red with the round tail lights and white wheels) had 140kW. They rode on lowered Bilstein suspension, had the turbo front brakes, LSD, different cam, extractors, piggy back computer (maybe the first factory piggyback computer) The Tasmanian police force had a few of them without any bodylit, but I believe they were otherwise the same spec. All GTS's were Silouhettes, but not all Silouhettes were GTS's I owned a GTSII for 7 years, and it was a beautiful car. Just the right amount of performance, comfort and style (and practicality). I understand Nissan (or NSVD) also built one turbo one, to be the official pacecar at the Adelaide GP in 1989 or 1990. This car was for sale recently - I'd love to get my hands on it.

Hey RSX84, would that be Von Bibra Nissan at Southport you're talking about? Never dealt with them personally, but they tried to rip off a friend of mine by telling her that her brakes needed replacing. She took the car there with a noise in the front end, and they said the discs are warped, and are too thin to machine, and pads were worn too. I had a look at them, and they were 0.5mm under new size (1.5mm of wear left) and the pads still had 9.5mm of material left on them. She took the car back to one of their other yards on the gold coast, and they machined the discs for free. Car's good as gold now. Anyway: I digress. I've usually never had a problem ordering stuff from Nissan dealers (except for the useless mob in Mount Isa, about 13 years ago). At times, they've supplied OEM parts cheaper than genereic aftermarket ones (eg timing belt for RB30)
-
Can't you still buy them from Nissan? Are the RSX rear brakes different from the hatchback?
-
G'day Ray. Thanks for the photos If you want extractors, just get a set of custom ones made, to suit the driving you plan on doing (ie rev range). if you shop around, you might be surprised how cheap it can be. There's an exhaust shop at Slacks Creek who do work for a great price, but I don't know how good they are at designing perfromance exhausts (have not dealt with them personally). I believe that a well designed custom system will be better than an off the shelf system every time, as you build it for your specific needs and engine tune. Hope this helps Peter

hahaha you're too diplomatic. Mine's rough as guts at the moment. No need to hold back - I just bought it a few months ago, so you won't offend me if you tell me you think it looks like a pile of pus (which it does ) I just scored a full efi setup for the V8 the other day, and am planning to build a programmable ECU for it. That'll keep me out of trouble for a while. My email is pw@mpe.com.au When you send the photos of your car, I'll email you my postal address, so you can post the disk. Thanks again for the offer.

mp3 - sound file. What Adam is saying (in normal, non computer techno geek talk) is: "Cool. That must sound sweet. I would love to hear the Weber/RB20 setup at full song :headbang: :uh-huh: I too would love to see your rig. I've got a 2 door 240k, which currently has a P76 V8 engine in there. (Sacrilege, you may say, but I'm kinda attracted to the old Skool feel of the old pushrodosaurus). The car's not a goer at the moment, as it's my long term project. I found a wrecker down the Gold Coast who claims to have about 10 240K's in his yard. I'll try to find his number and get back to you. Oh yeah, manual on Disk would be very sweet (unless you have a spare hard copy you'd be happy to part with)
-
How did I miss this one?? Yup, I'm the fool who bought the P76 V8 powered (and I use the term loosely) 240K. The rear suspension in the 240K is differend from a 1600 (apart from size) in that the shocks mount at an angle, rather than almose vertical, like the 1600 does. As V8Skylineman has said, the R30 rear control arms use a coilover setup, as opposed to the 240k, which uses a separate spring seat and shock mount. I'm very dubious about the effectiveness of a coilover setup on the back of a 240K, because of the angled shock absorbers, and the lack of height available to fit a decent coilover system in there. The MR30 rear discs should fit in without any major mods. That's what Dave Gaines uses in his giant killing 240k rally car. I have a set of R30 control arms, complete with discs, and plan to trial fit the discs sometime in the next few weeks (will try to get to the workshop this weekend for a better look).. Once I've had a chance to do this, I will report back here. Oh, I'm pretty sure that R200's were aalso available with Universals (in some 260Z 2+2's). All of the modern Nissans use the CV's though. Hey, V8SkylineMan - are you still at Coomera Shores? I thought you moved down to Sydney??

R32 GTSt bits'n pieces
warps replied to warps's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Wow! I'd almost forgotten about this!!. Still have the bits, will dig them out and have a look, and email pics to those who've requested. Riverside - I recall it was in good condition (wrapped in rags at the moment). Best if you come and have a look at it. If you're keen, we can talk about pricing (translation: I have no idea what it's worth. I'll do some research ask for a fair price. Not out to make a million on it) -
Get used to washing with a bucket only, or taking it to carlovers. Severe watering restrictions here, so it's illegal to hose a car. My car gets washed only during heavy downpours at the moment (even the dealers aren't allowed to wash them when they service them anymore)
-
Is this the same as the GTST, coz I have one sitting in the shed. If you can get me a part number, I can check it out for ya.
-
Bzzzt! *Wrong* The only way to tell is to take it to a drag strip and do some proper timed runs. Or, if that doesn't float your boat, go to a racetrack and see what lap times you can do. That's where the bull$hit stops!! Street racing is bad, m'kay??
-
Very well said, Docile. I went from a stock-ish 32 GTST to a bog stock MY02 WRX. The Rex seems punchier around town (not just the AWD launch thing - seems more to do with the gearing and it boosts earlier than the GTSt did). Once you get to highway speeds, the Rex feels like it runs out of breath, and I'd say the Skyline would have walked away fdrom it. I've not lined up a Skyline in the Rex, just like I never lined up a Rex when I had the Skyline. I'm not into street racing or drag racing. How do they handle corners? Well, I thought my Skyline was hot sh!t when I owned it...until I got the Rex. There's no comparison there. The Rex is much sweeter, more direct and easier to drive fast through twisty roads. This was proven at a track day where I was around a second quicker than a modified R33 GTSt around Morgan Park. The modified MY02 with 330kW and full Tein adjustable coilovers was around a second quicker again. I won't mention the modified GTR's laptimes though

hehe great thread to revive:D Well, in the last 15 months, I've managed to tear chunks from my rank:rolleyes: . I'm down from -4.5 to -9.5. I just installed Netkar, and it's good fun, but I always go back to GPL. Currently trying to lower my rtime at Spa. 3:19.31 and counting. I was hoping to break into the 16's, but it looks like I might have to be satisfied with 18's (If I can even manage that). I don't do the online thing. From what I've heard, it's more addictive than offline racing. I have enough trouble fitting my life around GPL as is it, not to need another challenge.
-
oops. Just read your response Craved:o . I haven't played around with an R33, so not sure. This is just going on some other cars I've had in teh past.
-
It's on the lock mechanism that bolts to the inside of the bootlid. It should be pretty close to where the release cable attaches.
-
There should be a little lever on the lock mechanism inside the boot (on the bootlid). Flicking this lever will prevent the remote release from opening it (they work a bit like a child safety lock on back doors of cars)

M3Boy: Firstly, I respect the way you've been handling this, and not "cop bashing" like so many others here. It sounds harsh that you've lost your car for a seemingly minor offence. However, the latest "anti-hoon" laws are very strict on any antisocial behaviour on the roads, so you shouldn't be surprised at the outcome. I'm sorry but no intelligent person would believe that crap! You say you wanted the other lane. Hang on, M3Boy said that the other lane was running out (which is why he let the other guy win - sorry - in). Hmm a bit of a fault in your logic there. Now, lets assume these are 2 mildly modified cars, capable of reaching 100km/h in 6 seconds?? Well, M3Boy backed off at about 90, which means they'd been going for a good 5 seconds by this time. Most intelligent people would have realised by this time that they weren't going to get the lane that they wanted (that was about to run out anyway), and backed off well before. Also, as it was the other guy's lane that was ending, he can legitimately say that he wanted to get in front before his lane ran out (whether that will earn him any respect in court would be arguable). All that M3Boy can claim is that he either: a) wanted to block the other guy from getting his lane, or B) wanted to race. Either way it doesn't look good for M3Boy, and trying to use GTS26DETT's argument is frought with danger. Let's not forget that magistrates aren't idiots. They can often see through plain lies. INASNT: why is it that you keep getting harrassed by cops? I have only been pulled over once in the last 8 years (whilst rushing my son to hospital - and the cop let me off). Thing is, I've been driving XR6's, turbo Skylines and now a WRX. Surely they attract these "jealous" cops more than the boring cars I drove in my silly youth (when I did get pulled over a few times, but never harrassed or unfairly treated) OK I'm a 36yo old fart too. The cops can't tell that from behind (or beside me either, because of dark tinting). Why then is is that they never even look twice at my WRX. Could it possibly be the way I behave on the streets:rolleyes: Your antics here are nothing short of childish, and you're an insult to our profession. I hope you conduct yourself a bit more professionally at work than you do here. By all means, M3Boy, if you feel harshly done by, then go to court and let our justice system decide the outcome. Don't think that telling lies in courrt will get you off, though. As said before, lying under oath is a serious offence.

ONLY $16K for the REV210 12 second 95' R33 GTST
warps replied to rev210's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
???? I don't follow your thinking. If you sell it for what it's worth, then you make a profit, of which you pay (up to) 48% in tax. You still keep (at least) 52% of the profit. It's still money in your pocket. If it's written down value is $16k, and you sell it for $21k, you pay (about) $2500 tax, so end up with $18.5k out of the deal. If you sell it for $16k, then you pay no CGT, but end up with only $16k in your pocket. I know which I'd rather have. -
Too true. I was a very one-eyed Skyline nut when I owned an R32. After a while, the novelty wore off. I saw the light and traded it for a WRX (Just kidding:D ). I came to appreciate all cars for what they are. I still like the skylines, but now realise that they certainly aren't the be-all and end-all of motoring. whether it has a rotor, V8, I6, I4, Boxer or whatever, I really don't care too much. as long as it's quick, and fun to drive. It's fun giving stick to a V8 on a race track, (proper one with corners and all), just as it's fun giving stick to turbo Skylines. By the same token, when a 450hp at the wheels GTR beats my times (in the dry at least), I can appreciate the performance of these things. I'd like to line up a standard GTR tho - I think it'd be a close race. I digress. As Soulja said, nothing makes a forum more boring than the brand slagging that some members engage in.
-
My point exactly So nice of you to stereotype me as a WRX wanka. Thank you. (you know nothing about me, do you?) Absolutely correct, I haven't had the WRX in the forest "like it was intended" Unfortunalely my budget won't allow me that luxury (had to be satisfied with a Datsun 1600, and later a GP N Charade). I did take it to Morgan Park yesterday for a track day though. Managed 4th fastest for the day. I got killed by 2 seriously modified GTR's, but managed to dispose of 2 modified R33 GTSt's, a clubsport and a few other interesting cars. Not bad for a porky, ugly duckling MY02 stocker, hey? By the way, Sonic. great ride you have. The old Prince Skylines are a classic. I'd love to have one of them in my stable too. Pi$$ed off that I missed out on buying 4 of them for $5k 8 years ago:(

Oh, and drifting as a motorsport? Oh puh-leeeez! Drifting is to motorsport what synchronised swimming is to the 1500m freestyle. pfft drifting competitions - gimme a break!!
