help please - gtr running like a dog
Amaru replied to dickogtr's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I had a brand new set of the HKS plugs in my car when I bought it and they fouled like a bastard almost instantly, I wouldnt bother with them especially for the price you pay. Stick to the NGK coppers and give them a clean every service (5000kms) and change every second service (10,000kms) and you should have no dramas. Meanwhile, I noticed youre in Canberra -- were having a cruise tomorrow nite (friday) meeting at 9pm at the national museum, come past if you like. -
Guys keep in mind that some of the people from the pits -DO- read these forums (was talking to them about it when i went over) and some comments might make them pick on you some more anyways, spotted gunmetal r32 gtst on lanyon drive in queanbeyan, gave a sort of finger/wave/hey thing and then realised i probably looked like a retard

Seems like a fair price, could possibly source a bit cheaper but thats around the norm. You could get a decent rebuild for $6,500 including a set of forged pistons and uprated rod bolts and head studs etc. I would personally go for the rebuild as that way you will have a fresh motor and you know what condition it is in as opposed to getting a second hand one, which can be said to be in good condition, but you never know.

Majority of the time the at fault driver is fined/charged in an accident. Accidents are usually the result of something, e.g failing to give way, negligent driving etc. Sux that straight after a crash you get slapped with a fine, but thats the way it goes. As for the car, I was under the impression the insurer paid out the agreed value of the car not market value?

Tomei Poncams Installed ! Hmmm power...

The BOV gaskets are known to leak so check that and just check all your piping. First run in my car with the cams in, come onto boost and I had the lovely whistle, checked all clamps on intercooler piping and one was slightly loose and blowing open under boost On that note, looks like we have the cold start issues and missfiring sorted. -
and a smaller penis after that comment

Like hell they dont... it takes under 5 seconds of abuse/mis-treatment for one to go bang. Its an engine just like any other car, it doesnt have super special non blowing up powers. -

How fouled up are the spark plugs? Check for anymore leaks anywhere and if the plugs are fouled, try putting a new set in. If you can get the car started and its still missing on idle disconnect the coil packs one by one (e.g disconnect one then reconnect it). As you disconnect them the car should start running rougher until you reconnect it again. The cylinder(s) that you disconnect the coil on and it doesnt change the idle of the car is where your problem is. Just a few quick things you can try if you havnt already. A set of copper NGK's should cost about $25 from supercheap (BCPR6ES I think they are from memory? Do a search). EDIT: I also noticed you saying you put unleaded in it, then you put some PULP in it?? You are aware that a GTR is meant to run on 100 octane fuel and even our PULP isnt quite up to scratch? You should -NOT- be running the car on standard unleaded, not to mention giving it a "run" through 1st/2nd/3rd. If you were flogging it on normal unleaded, I wouldnt be suprised if some internal engine damage has been caused. -
Yep should be around still, have PM'd you my phone number if you need someone to call to find out where we are when you get here

Ill be out if we can get my dirty missfire issue sorted

Urgently Needed - GTR Exhaust from Cat Back
Amaru replied to Sinista32's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Ive got a cat back exhaust but it doesnt have the rear muffler (Nismo exhaust which passed rego). Jayce is the proud new owner of the muffler. Not sure if he is using it or not. -

Thanks for that info will pass it on. The car has power fc, does that have specific 'cold run a/f' maps? When its cold it doesnt seem overly rich, theres no black smoke puffing out on idle etc and whilst driving (granted I can only look in the mirror) when cold (i dont rev it above 2500 - 2800rpm when its cold) I cant see any black smoke coming out. Will stick the lambda meter up it again and take it for a drive when cold and see what the AFR's are doing I guess. -

We havnt had it on the dyno yet, all tuning was done on road (and no it wasnt a bodgy job, we used a full professional lambda meter and detonation ears with data logging). The car has HKS GT2530's. It made 300rwkw before on a conservative tune, expecting alot more now. Im not out for outright power, just nice driveability and when it stops missfiring all I can say is the car is excellent now with nice power all through the rev range. Just need to sort out this damn missfiring issue -

Got the tomei 260 in/ex + cam gears and new valve springs installed in my RB26. Inlet is set +2 and exhaust -4. The thing pulls very hard throughout the rev range but having a few problems maybe someone can help with? When the car is started and comes up to temp, the first time you give it decent throttle it starts missfiring. It does this a few times, then it clears up and doesnt happen until you tuen the car off and start it cold again (and wait for it to come up to temp of course). This has only started happening since putting the cams in. Also when it starts missfiring you can hear the turbos surging / coming on and off boost (going woosh woosh woosh woosh). After it stops misfiring, the torque is incredible and the car performs well above any expectations I had. Also on +2 / -4 the car has a fairly lumpy idle when warmed up... is this normal? -
Thatd be great if you could man, mines going in soon for a whole day of dynoing to get it right and ill let you know what I come back with as well
-
Havnt had it on a dyno but done extensive road tuning with it. Whats wierd is once the car warms up (oil temp over 70 and water temp at 80 - 85) it does it a few times, and then it clears up and doesnt happen again until you cold start the car and wait for it to warm up where it does it a few times again, and then clears up and doesnt happen. Very wierd problem. And the cams are far from dialled in from factory, all in all after this experiance, ive come to the conclusion the camshafts are -far- from a "bolt in" item...

Got a friend with a nicely modded GTiR (exhaust, intercooler, boost controller, chipped ecu) and he hasnt had any problems with it (except for one gearbox breakage). Hes had the car for over 2 years now. It does drink petrol like crazy though, and Ive heard the same from other owners...
