  1. Hi pnblight It was taken back to 0/0 and we tried going the opposite way (retarding inlet, advancing exhaust) to see what happened, and it started running better. Will try advancing the inlet cam again to see what difference makes.
  2. Yep doing this alone will save you over $1000 in labour, it is a bastard of a job though. If you need any assistance (not this weekend though) give us a call and im more than willing to come and help out where I can. Id reccomend www.proengines.com.au for rebuild, they did my engine, did whytrys engine and also did deans engine. Greg who works there is an awesome guy, very fair prices and stands by his products. EDIT: Just also saw your post on pistons, have a talk to Greg he got me an excellent price on mine. Arias and Wiesco are around the $1300 mark for all 6. Wiesco from my understanding require a bit of machining work, but the Arias are good as gold to put in. Also do NOT buy the pistons until the engine is stripped. If the cylinder walls are damaged the block will need to be bored out and honed, so standard size pistons will not fit (you will need slightly oversize). Also if its already had a rebuild somewhere along the line and the bore is 87mm instead of 86mm and you buy 86.5mm pistons, youve just wasted $1300. Suss out the damage first and what exactly has gone wrong, and go from there. You never know, it may end up cheaper than you think ANOTHER EDIT: Ill talk to Ed tonite and see if he has compression/leak down tester so we can go and double check the results on your engine before pulling it if you want.
  3. The pods/turbos merge into a single pipe before the intercooler so its not setup as air intake 1 serves cylinders 1-3 and air intake 2 serves 4-6. From the sounds it was making and what you explained happened I would say something is dead in the bottom end, possibly pistons. It doesnt take much detonation to fry the standard ringlands, you can do a search on the forums and see its a common problem. It didnt have a knocking noise (so you say) indicating stuffed bearings so crankshaft + rods should still be ok. Id be betting my money on blown pistons, but youre unfortunately not going to know until you strip her down. As I said, if you can do it yourself you will save ALOT of money in labour, otherwise Ed will be more than happy to do it. EDIT: Oh and with the spark plugs its showing cylinders 4-5-6 were running richer than 1-2-3 (or 1-2-3 were just burning better, and maybe there was an ignition problem on 4-5-6).
  4. Heard from Dean today man, that sux She will be back bigger and better than ever! EDIT: Spotted one severely busted tow rope and a gt-r barrelling down the hill and us in a falcon going "oh sheeeeeet hes gonna hit ussss!!!!"
  5. Im running basically the same setup. Upgraded bearings, standard rods shot peened with ARP rod bolts, Arias forged pistons, metal head gasket, o-ringed, balanced and blue printed. Used to run 1.5 bar on HKS GT2530's with standard camshafts, and now 1.25bar with Tomei poncams. Has been running for 15,000kms with no hiccups whats so ever (well at least in relation to the engine build). I was told with the standard rods, keep to the factory rev limit and you wont have a problem 350awkw and under. We had part of my engine apart a few weeks ago and everything still looks as new. EDIT: I as wactually told more than 350kw for the shot peened rods at factory rev limit, but 350kw is ample for what I want from the car.
  6. Went to school with Kane, have known him since Year 1 I think of primary school
  7. Ok since my last post we have changed some things on the car. Changed the CAS, no dice, still missfired. Timing was played with and the more the exhaust was advanced the better the car ran. It now seems to be running pretty decently on -2 inlet +6 exhaust. Now the thing is this goes against what everyone told me reccomended settings were to start with of +2 inlet -4 exhaust. I guess every car is different and needs different settings, but these are way off from what people told me, unless I got it mixed up and was -2 inlet +4 exhaust as optimal settings to begin with?
  8. As topic says, have a friend who needs a formal car urgently tonite. If you can do it, PM me and ill send you the details.
  9. Well im a slacker and didnt get the settings  -- the car is at Eds now if you wanna run up and take a look or call him and get him to read them to you
  10. will be in melbourne so wont be making an appearance
  11. laugh it up
  12. :bahaha: thats the funniest thing ive ever heard... jk
  13. Ive got one running in mine currently set on 1.2bar with no hassles, it spikes a tiny bit (to 1.25 bar) but comes on boost quicker because of it. Will post the settings here tonight when I get home
  14. Thanks for the reminder
  15. OC repeats on tomorrow nite
  16. Dont know what its like for other states, but in ACT the rule specifically says "Has to be mounted on the front of the vehicle, parralell with the front axle and no more than 1.5 metres off the ground" meaning it can go anywhere on the front of the car as long as its not on an angle. Been pulled over many a times by cops who have asked about this, told them, and theyve let me off. Check the rules.
  17. Spotted silver 4 door R33 GTS4 at Calwell Club this afternoon, it grabbed my extra attention for some reason, it just looked -really- straight and clean
  18. 26yo? Thats abo****ely f#cking ridiculous... 21 years at a maximum maybe, but 26 is just stupid.
  19. Yeah thats getting pretty accurate
  20. Id be down for something but I think im still too drunk to drive from last night and its too damn hot to sleep ... meanwhile, serious question, can someome please tell me what teh f*ck is in a long island ice tea?
  21. I personally fail to see what relevance the above scenarios have to driving a high performance car. Those things happen all day every day, it doesnt matter what car youre in and in my opinion, contribute absolutely nothing to the skills "required" to drive a high performance car. There is no answer, plain and simple. You can put restrictions on paper of what people can and cannot drive, but its never going to stop whats happening. Quite a long time ago they put in place laws to stop muders, did all murders magically cease and there has not been one case since the laws were introduced? Not trying to be pessemistic but were human, we all have choices to make, and if youre unfortunate enough to be cleaned up by a young driver in a high powered car, then theres not a whole lot you can do about it.
  22. yep, where the hospital they blew up was
  23. Again?? Wednesday night some young guys driving a WRX crashed their car into a ditch (it rolled and landed on its roof). They luckily survived and were taken to hospital
  24. Well we just needed to play with the timing on mine, but as you said, its chockers in there at the moment so I told ed to just leave it, ill pick it up this afternoon (as its still driveable) and we will play with timing next week
