  1. maybe a natro one, or a dead stock ca18 turbo one where the driver hasn't changed down out of 5th gear. a sr20 turbo one is as fast in stock form as a turbo r33.
  2. this applies to women too.....
  3. everyday driving, it's usually around 2500 to 3000rpm, but it's more just done instinctively as what provides enough acceleration while still keeping both the rpm and the throttle percentage low to get good fuel economy. in performance mode though, i use the redline as my guide. the car pulls hard to redline so there's no point changing earlier. if you go buy the "it's feeling like it's not pulling as hard" theory then you also need to pay close attention to whether it pulls as hard once you change gears, because sometimes even though the acceleration rate is slowing down, the acceleration is still faster than in the next gear.
  4. it is most likely going to be the coils. try taping up the lower section of the coils (from where they mmount to the bracket down) with electrical tape and see if that helps at all.
  5. my points were aimed towards people under the impression that it is the aussie retailers ripping people off.
  6. sucks to be you guys. i downloaded little big planet and ratchet and clank this morning. 5gb in total. took about an hour and a half all up i think. was going at 1mb every second (joys of ADSL2+), but slowed down to 1mb every 2 or 3 seconds at some points. only had 1 error when downloading the update to little big planet, which was more to do with my router than anything.
  7. a 300zx will have ordinary fuel economy, since they are a v6 and a bit on the heavy side. the economy would be similar to that of a commodore or falcon. somewhere in the range of 10 to 16L/100kms, depending on driving. highway will be down around 10L/100kms (or even a touch less), but heavy traffic and giving it the beans on a regular basis will see it up around 16L/100kms.
  8. i had this issue with my turbosmart dual stage boost controller. in my case the tiny bleed hole was blocked. i'm not sure if the normal controllers have a bleed hole or not, but it may be worth looking for one. my suggestion would be to scrap it and get a turbotech boost controller off ebay. they are only $30 or $40 and in my opinion work better than the turbosmart ones
  9. the natro ones will beat a natro skyline, but that is beside the point. the main point is that the dash looks like the cockpit of a 1950's plane that has been butchered to fit in a car.
  10. the one in gympie is maroon, still has the GTR endplates on the rear wing and the GTR badge in the grill and a gts-R badge (that looks like a GTR badge from a distance) on the boot
  11. LOL i was the same when i had mine
  12. ok, i think i have come up with a way to make some of you understand the point i'm making. this is mostly aimed at people who work for companies that charge out labour for work done (such as an electrician, mechanic, etc), but others can get the idea. ok, so anyone who works for a company where they charge out labour at an hourly rate. is the hourly rate much higher than what you get paid per hour? i'm guessing it will be at least double, but most likely more, even though there may only be 1 person doing on that particular job at a time. i want you to justify why i shouldn't just pay the hourly rate you get paid (including super, and GST). now comes the kicker..... you can't justify it in a way that can also be used to justify the (usually) much smaller (percentage wise) mark-up on retail goods. if you can do that i won't post in here again. or to put it another way, why will most people pay up to, or over $100 an hour to have a mechanic fix their car, even though the person who works on their car will only get 1/4 of that. the argument is exactly the same. it is just that people can justify the argument to themselves about the price of some things, but not about others.
  13. bit hard to be competitve when there is bugger all profit margin. too many morons in this country that think it is all the retailers who are making the profit rather than the 2 or 3 tiers in the retail chain above them. at least get your facts straight and realise that the prices are that high because of wholesale costs, not because of retailers putting on big mark-up. and for crying out loud, will people realise that most of the large chains in the australian market are all part of multi-industry companies, so yes, some of them will gladly sell stuff below cost to get customers in the door. this doesn't mean that the cost that it is on for sale for is the price it should be all the time and the difference is purely profit. also don't forget that a company that has made a decnt profit at some point in time can also invest in other things to then continue to make even more money. hell some companies will use 1 industry purely as a tax write-off. others simply monopolise the market (harvey norman is one of them as they are also joyce mayne and i think it's domain as well). if need be i will post up a heap of wholesale prices of stuff from the bike industry as well as links to various overseas online stores who sell the stuff at below australian wholesale cost to prove my point. now i'm sure people sill start saying "well then the retailer should buy direct from overseas". there are 2 problems with this. 1: it;s illegal and the retailer can be taken to court for this as in a lot of cases the australian distributor is paying quite a large sum of money to the head company to be the sole distributor, or shared sole distributor, and since the retailer would then be classed as a distributor as well, they are in breach of this. 2: warranty. no australian supplier will provide warranty on parts bought outside of australia, so it means either a lot of dicking around on the behalf of the retailer, or customers getting pissed off because they have no warranty. oh and as i said before, in the case of aus prices VS US prices, you have to factor in wages. minimum wage there is half of what it is here (about $7.50 an hour), so that will always be a factor. if you ignore that then we are all getting ripped off with everything we buy because when mum was visiting a friend in china he had a plumber come and install a new sink and it cost him $2 for the sink and the plumbers labour to install it. any plumbers here that would supply a new sink and fit it for $2? i thought not...... anyone here willing to work 6 days a week in a factory for $70 a month? no one? basically, everyone wants to get paid as much as possible but don't want companies to make any profit. why don't you all go and tell your boss to give you a pay rise while at the same time telling him (or her) he should cut the profit margin by 50% and see what they think of your genius idea.
  14. was it something along the lines of putting a few pieces of wood down to drive the car onto?
  15. yep, there's one in gympie. is an auto with a GTR bodykit, LOL
  16. how much extra power you get from a FMIC depends on many things. in certain conditions the power gain will be nothing. in other conditions the power gain will be large. for example on a warm day where you have been driving the car hard then a FMIC won't suffer from heat soak as much, so it really isn't gaining any power but reducing the power loss.
  17. that doesn't mean it's legal. just means the cop either didn't know it was carbon or didn't know it was illegal. it most certainly is illegal.
  18. pretty much but yeah, my 95 33 had sedan headlights and the crappy sedan front bar. i never go off the front bar as they are so often changed. i've never been totally confident about how people say that the more agressive front bar is the series 1.5 because of the amount of series 1's i've seen with them. i think it is more to do with whether it is a sedan or a coupe. same goes with the grill.
  19. may possibly come down to where the rim is out of balance, but ask them if they can put them behind the spoke line.
  20. there is no turbo kits as put it. you need to purchase a lot of individual parts to do the conversion. it is much cheaper to sell the NA and buy a gt-t. natro skylines generally sell for similar money to turbo skylines, where as it would cost you quite a few thousand to buy all the parts required to turbo your natro. a new turbo alone will cost well over $1000 (closer to $2000, or more) for a ball bearing turbo and around $1000 for a bush bearing turbo, not including the water and oil lines, manifold, etc. realistacally speaking, expect the conversion to cost you $4000 or so if using a mix of new and used parts. a bit less if using all used parts.
  21. i know it's not a commodore, but i'd posted in here before about the fuel economy of my VT commodore and how the best i'd gotten was 8.74L/100kms. this was on E10. i put a tank of 91 octane in it last week. filled up tonight on my way home. 8.24L/100kms. that tank was only driving to and from work, which is mostly highway driving. if the mornings weren't quite so cold (been a few 5 degree mornings) or the car was kept in a garage and not out in the front yard then the economy would be a bit better since the car would come up to temp a little bit quicker. as it is, on the way to work the car doesn't come to temp until i reach the edge of town (about 7 kms away), so the part of the trip that is start/stop is also the part of the trip where the car is running the richest.
  22. on the comment about the dollar dropping but prices not, one thing you have to take into account is the amount of stock on hand that the distributors have that they paid the old price for. it's all well and good to say that the dollar has gotten stronger but if they still have 6 months supply then they can't realistically drop the prices until they get new stock in. of course this is a general comment, and doesn't apply so much to the gaming industry where there is new games coming out all the time. as for dick smith vs eb games, you have to remember that dick smith is owned by the woolworths/big w company these days, so they have plenty of money behind them, so yes, they will sell things at a loss to get sales, but it also means that they can bargain better prices than smaller players. when i was working at a shop that sold games (before i bought my bike shop), target was selling consoles for below cost. the store owner rang the sony rep. he assured her that sony wasn't selling them to target for a lower price and that she shouldn't bother to buy stock from sony and to go buy them from target while they were still selling them at that price. all i can say is that until you have owned a business, you have very little idea about how much money it takes to run a business and aren't really in a position to comment about businesses being rip-offs. if most of you decided to open a games store and put the prices at what you think they should be, you'd be out of business in a matter of months.
  23. half of the weights you have mentioned would be pretty optimistic (such as 30kg for the rear wing), or even 4kg for mirrors and only 1kg for carbon mirrors. does that include the glass in the 1kg? i'm guessing it probably wouldn't (especially since it's for the pair). as for remaining legal, well many of the things you have mentioned will make the car illegal, such as the carbon bonnet, fibreglass guards. i'm not really up on glass requirements, but i have a feeling that all fixed windows need to remain glass (as they are structural). not sure if you can change the front door windows to lexan either. also, spec weight on the r33 is between 1350 and 1370kg (this is dry weight i think).
  24. meaning it's probably been in a crash and had new headlights put in. could still be a 95 model and someone changed the boot to a s1 boot (don't know why, but some people do do it) best bet is to post the vin the in FAST section and/or post pics of the engine bay and interior. that will give some indication as to what series it is.
