  1. both compression and leak down require getting to all cylinders, which means removing the manifold to get to the rear 3 cylinders in this case. which i told him i wasn't keen on doing because it takes a few hours to remove and install the manifold, and if the gasket gets damaged i have to get a new one of them also. and none of them are going to able to really tell you if the head gasket is causing the oil on the side of the block (which is why this kid - he's only about 19, wants to do the tests). he just really doesn't seem to know what he is on about. and is getting advice from his mates who also don't seem to know too much. as for trying to get the price lower, that isn't going to happen. and he has told me that many times he is keen, so why should i lower the price? if he didn't think the price was reasonable he wouldn't be saying that he is keen to get the car in every second message.
  2. yeah we also thought of that
  3. basically i am selling my car and a guy came and had a look and was worried about a bit of oil on the block (comes from leaking rocker cover gasket, same as what skylines suffer from) and he wants to do some tests on it to make sure the head gasket isn't gone. now i know you can do a pressure test, and a compression test (but neither will tell you if the head is leaking oil due to the head gasket). i explained that to him but he said that his mate has a few testers that don't require removing anything. what could they be? i was talking to my mate who is a mechanic and the only thing he could think of a TK test, but again that won't tell if the headgasket is the cause of the oil leak. an oil pressure test probably won't show it either if it is a tiny little leak (but as i said it's the rocker cover gasket leaking and i told the guy that). the only thing we could think of is that this guys mate has a crystal ball, or is a psychic. so any ideas on what this guy is on about?
  4. a few weeks ago, I was coming home from work around 8 after building some bikes turning off north rd onto white rd and was doing the speed limit not driving like a dick or cutting anyone off and from behind had a white ford ute come flying up my ass and began tailgating me. Nowwhen i say tailgating i mean i couldnt see his lights close! Checked my speed and was doin the right speed. Guy kept doint it and followed me along white rd once i turned down a back street n saw him keep goin i was like fark this booged it (yes i know for everyone goin to gimme flack for this naughty naughty) and he kept following i did some fairly dodgy manovers trying to get rid of this wanker headed back to blacks then over took cars left right n centre to loose him he did some deadly driving to keep up only got a slight look at him in my rear view when he was honking and flashing me. Beanie, Goatie. etc Didnt get plates and didnt get a better look. didnt pull over coz he couldve had a gun on him who knows. Reckon he was def on drugs. He gave up after a bit.
  5. i had an ea falcon and it's horn was worse than the one on my 33
  6. oh and since you seem to know how to spec a bike well, i won't tell you how you could've spent less and saved more weight.
  7. well i have spoken to the head of a few companies and all of them tell me that the prices are going to go up. also all the brands bar 1 of brands i carry have gone up by 10 to 15%. and other brands i know of have also gone up compared to last year. if you don't believe me, go onto giant's website. they have both the 08 and 09 models on there with rrp prices. some models have gone up by over 10% without a a single change to the specs. and also the prices that you have seen won't have any of the price changes for what might happen during the year because it is purely down to what happens with the price of steel and the aussie dollar. if the aussie dollar drops more then any shipments that haven't already been paid for are going to have higher prices than the current stuff. as it is all the first shipments were paid for when the aussie dollar was in the high 90 US cent range. now that the aussie dollar has dropped by nearly 20%, you can't expect the suppliers to absorb such a price difference. the only brand i have seen (from what i sell) not to go up in price is WeThePeople. but on some of their bikes they have changed the specs (generally gone to lesser brand name parts that are still just as good) in order to get the price down.
  8. oh i forgot to mention, anyone looking at getting a bike, get in ASAP. the reason being that bikes are going to increase in price around xmas time by at least 15%. the reason is that there was already going to be a price rise because of the constantly increasing price of steel, but since the aussie dollar has dropped so much (and everything is bought from asia in US$) this is going to increase prices even more. any bikes that are already in store when the price goes up won't be affected, but any bikes that have been ordered in after the price rise will be more expensive.

  25. what sort of tyres you getting? i run 26 x 1.5 michelin which go for about $45 upwards, otherwise the ones i sold jase, and which cherie uses as well, are tioga city slickers in a 26 x 1.0. they are the same width as a road bike tyre and they are about $30 each. both of those tyres require new tubes which are about $6 each. NOTE: these prices are RRP and not the price i do for SAU members
