  1. nice clean car. top write up. thoes bezles around the gauges make the 32 dash look very modern.
  2. It's easy to be an arm chair judge but I'm guessing that footage is shot from the judging area making it fair to judge from. There has been quite a few people upset this year from judges calls in the tassy series but where the majority of spectators watch from gives a totally different aspect to what the judges see so they can ony go off what they see. You do seem to get the rough end of the stick with calls thoe. Good driving non the less.
  3. So that battle went to a re run and who went through? I'd be interested to know why you didn't get the win off that first battle. To me you pull away out of turn one. Tom Carries less angle then chases you down. But that's with less angle. I would have thought advantage you. Then your chase lap you emulate his angle and stay the same proximity all Run. Advantage you. Or am I missing something? I see you have dropped the big wing as well. Any reason or just a change?
  4. For what you would spend buying light weight bits you could probably buy a new appropriate tow car. The shell is probably the least of your problems. The weight of the rb is. With the right engine shell combo you could.
  5. they would be cool pete. and 6K for a trailer is dreaming. plenty of cheaper ones about. and not your average ones. ones to accomodate low cars and low sides to open doors ect.
  6. im pretty sure Ben just broke the car so i couldnt drive it. non the less it was probably the most impressive test day so far with the car showing stacks of potential. it was also the first R&D test for the new alternator design. it didnt fail like the Chinese header tank so it must be ok.
  7. yes white. will make it look gangsta high if it is black (carbon)
  8. I thought thes were spoken for after the delivery of parts Saturday? But I don't really know.
  9. Somthing i have been working on to overcome a problem we stumbled across during Targa 2012 is a high output alternator. The situation: we rock up to the start of howell day 1. its raining and the windscreen fogs up on the start line. at this point we have 95% of the cars stripped back electrics turned on. Wipers, lights fog and head (lights on is a requirement for targa) thermo fan (sitting at start line - doesnt come on during racing) 2 fuel pumps, heater fan, rear screen demist and electronics (abs, dash, ecu, intercom, heated wide band ect) We then for the first time in a race situation turn on the new heated front windscreen. a few minutes into the stage we hit a 1km long strait. at 200+ speeds the wipers struggle to come back down the screen, then they stop half way, we brake for the end of the strait and the abs light comes on and pulling out of the corner the engine starts to miss. ben realises we are fast running out of power and switches everything he can off. the car picks up power and the abs light goes out. we stop for fuel at the end of the stage and the car is dead. no life left in the battery at all. this could have ended our targa then and there but instead a cam decided to brake. WTF. The Assessment: It was obvious that the new windscreen had caused the issue but its needed when ever its raining so a requirement of wipers and lights is needed. During service we did a quick run over the car and found that we could get rid of the rear screen and turn off the heater fan when ever the front screen was on. also making sure only the fog lights were on when front screen was on. The Theory: Rough current draw figures are as follows. Themo fan 10a Heater fan 10a lift pump 8a main pump 18a fog lights 9a headlights including park 13a windscreen wipers 12a rear demist 15a electronics 10a New heated windscreen 40a total. thats 144 amps roughly if everything is on. the output of a stock RB (20-26) alternator is 80a we cut what we had to after day one so with the massive load of the windscreen the system neither charged or discharged. there was no margin for error. the solution: After a bit of time selecting a hand full of possible replacements out of a book they were all thinned out on a output/ modification requirement/ cost basis leaving this 125 amp nissan maxima as the clear winner. i believe a patrol one may have been amongst the final few but its 95-100a output wasnt worth the hassle. non of the options were going to be a direct bolt on but we were stoked when test fitting we found it bolted up to the original bottom mount and the belts fitted on the stock pulley perfectly. but the stock pulley for the new alternator was designed for a luxury automatic car that never sees revs. to keep to the standard drive a pulley off a rb20 donor alternator had to be machined to fit. stock new I toyed with ideas about cutting and welding the front housing to suit the original belt adjuster but in the end i opted to make a bolt on bracket that essentially moves the top mounting position to the same place of a factory alt mount. i also made it out of steel as reliability is the key to tarmac rallies. this bracket almost completed a bolt on option with no need to modify the existing engine bracketry. Another huge aspect driving the bolt on theme was we wanted the option to return to a stock alt during the event if need be. So a bit more research went in and i was able to get a plug adapter to change the maxima alt plug to the rb style plug creating a 100% bolt on kit with no modifications required. stock plug modified plug The Figures: the new alt is 125amp over the original 80amp item. it does weigh approximately 1.2kg more (including bracket) but it does not require any more energy (hp) to drive to produce 80amps than he original. its only when full load is required that it requires more HP to drive it. The above has now been made into a kit that can be brought through me and if i get enough interest ill do a group buy on here. hope you enjoy the read.
  10. I ended up getting a nm pajero 6 months ago. Had someone run into my vt wagon so needed somthing quickly. Its an auto v6 exceed. Black leather and all the bells. We test drove paj and pardos of a similar examples. While the pardo was nice it wasn't worth the extra money for less features. Wasn't interested in a diesel. For the extra a diesel cost and highter maintenance im happy with what I got. Biggest down side is it did over heat on a hot day and after a bit of looking I found this was a very common problem. Gave the system an over haul and bigger rad and it's all sweet. Between my gf and I we toe every weekend and hasn't missed a beet
  11. I think I have one in bits but it would have every thing there. Pm me of your keen
  12. One week count down to my next outing. I was very happy with the car last prac day so I've only done minor things. I've had to re paint a few bits after my round 2 excursion in the rock trap. I didn't take any pics but I decided to gut the factory side intrusion bars out of my doors charting with the passenger one. I didn't want to gut the frame completely as I wanted to keep the glass and electric window operations for cost and minimal weight saving. I was able to get 10kg out of the one door. Very happy with a mod that cost nix. I've also been developing a higher amperage bolt on alternator kit to suit rb engines designed for mainly rally where there is a high current requirement. Watch this space as I'll be putting up some info very soon.
  13. what is the clutch/ flywheel to suit?
  14. Boost automotive would have some
  15. use a good quality single hex socket. not a multi hex. if it had rounded a bit a gentle tap with a hammer should get a good single hex on there. if that fails vice grips.
  16. Finally found some motivation. Got a stack of work done to the car today. Repainted one and touthed up the other rims that got badly gravel rashed at symmons. Oil change and sump guard fitted. I've also been revamping the back end and removing weight where I can. Found the toe rod ball joint loose and replaced it with the only spare I have.. Brought a spot drill bit and been in studying panels where I can. Also got some alloy to start making a rear diffuser. On track for round 3. Also hoping to get to the legerwood lane hill climb.
  17. ive checked my tv guide and there is 1 hours worth of coverage for yesterday and today at 11pm. what a joke. 7 is only running AFL and repeats of Gay factor. what a joke. oh well sorry for the hijack.
  18. That sounds like a grate little unit. I'm surprised I've never heard of them before. I'll be keepin it in mind
  19. i can help you out with a stock gtst front bar. not the type m bar. and also a gtst bonnet latch. possibly even the skirt ill have to check on that thoe.
  20. I've always noticed a big difference in the 2 cars. The Evo engine will produce bigger power easier than the Sti. It seems to be far easier to make a quick club lever car out of them over the Sti. Yet I would say the Sti is a far more popular street car then the Evo for them masses and the Evo is more for the people that know what cars are.
  21. Spotted ben and I on speedhunters http://www.speedhunters.com/2012/08/back_in_the_swing/
  22. Check out savman s thread in the build section if you want to see a responsive rb20'. Response and 260rwkw.
  23. Lol. If I was still on them I would have been upside down through that corner. I personally use the 595 over the evo any day but I have found they have a limit. I've changed to kuhmo at this stage. 1 2 in the champion ship they must be ok. They have so far been light years ahead but they are way expensive
  24. I don't like getting cut nuts thoe
  25. I'm struggling highly for motivation at the moment. Also for the first time in about 3 outings I actually jacked my car up to check it and found some epic inner wheel damage from the last prac day. My spotter kept edging me deeper and deeper to turn 1 untill I broke it. Also gave the chassis a good knock from another ripple strip adventure. Otherwise it's all sweet and ready to go for round 3. I have several aspects to revamp on the. Car but can't seem to get into it. Any one got a way to get yourself motivated?
