Cost of mods and What does your car owe you?
meshmesh replied to meshmesh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Oooooh sh!t $teve, I don't feel that bad now. -
Uuuum!!! Be careful with the term Silica, eg: hankook vs michelin. Hankook use 3% silica in their tyre compared to 20% by michelin. Best to ask the amount of silica is in the tyre.

I thought it would be interesting to note the actuall cost of performance modifications. As I've noticed, some people including myself dcon't realise the actuall cost of slapping on some performance mods. Here's a rough off the top off my head cost of my mods on the GTR since buying it in November/December 2003: Power FC & HC: $1450 GreedyTurbo Timer & harness: $180 HKS EVC: $420 Front Pipes Exhaust: $420 Cam Gears: $230 Clutch OS Giken Twin Plate: $2000 Genuine GTR Air Box: $200 KN Filter & Cleaning Kit: $140 SARD 700cc Injectors: $800 Bosch 044 Fuel Pump: $380 Turbos HKS 2530's: $3900 Catch Can (Racepace): $250 Tyres Bridgstone S03: $1240 Carbon Fibre Wing Blade: $600 Nismo Clear Side Indicators: $90 Z32 AFM's with Tomei Plug: $700 Iridum Spark Plugs: $130 Services & Maintenance Every 5000K's: $600 Labour & Tuning: is all inclusive over 2 stages. Approx $3000 TOTAL "I think I'm going to cry now": $16,730.00 Probably a good indication to add the current power aswell, so after al of the above the car makes ~320kwrw

If there's room for 2 more, count me in.

My first experience in a gtr was quite the opposite and sort of anti-climax. I found out later the car was a dud. My next ride in another mates GTR was very exciting for a fairly stock car. I've driven both 996 & 993 twin turbo's, and honestly the GTR "with mods" kills them both, performance wise. Luxury is another story, porsches have a unique handling characteristic to any other car, so does the GTR and you realise the GTR is what it is, not just for it's straightline performance but it's cornering ability and most of all reputaion and $ for $ value.

I am contemplating ordering my R34GTR sooner than I expected and may be able to assist you. However, being a little unfamilar with the exact process can I ask, what's involved, & how long will you need it for?

Hi ferni, I thought your ECU was re-chipped or something? The clutch is costing me around $2K from japan . Scooby, Same problem I had, so I took the word of my tuners who have tested it on a dyno, and it seems they were correct. You also said you wanted to go Trust Stage 1 Cams.. were you thinking 256's? As I also looked into the same cams, and after some full on punch ons with my tuners & others alike I decide to go with their advice "again" and not install cams. Here's why, as a general statement related to Stock GTR Rb26 motors, there are a few things you need to consider and they all come back to longevity of the Stock motor. Sure cams will help, but they will add alot of stress on the motor like many things. I've based my tune & upgrades very conservatively, and know "for a fact" that we can get 400rwkw from my exact same set up... dont believe it speak to Emre. So keeping that in mind my tune at around 320kw is quite safe. My future thought is if I choose to rebuild the motor then I will definately go the cams, full house etc etc.

Can I ask why you want to replace the plenum on an RB26? I'm sure SydneyKid & others have confirmed the stock plenum is good for 900hp.

DYNO RESULT: GTR Before & After HKS GT2530
meshmesh replied to meshmesh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Issue resolved - Thread Updated... see original post #1 -
Hi Scooby, Logic & tuners (inc mine) says a dump will have it's benfits, however they are minimal less than <3kw for the added cost of $600+ for HKS Dumps, and $1000+for the trust. My GTR has the stock dumps at the moment and makes 320kw on 19~psi. Personally next time I might go the trust as it is a single piece which include the dumps and the front pipe, as the cost works out the same as buying the pieces individually. I completed in 2 stages similar to that above, "just waiting for my OS Giken Twin Plate to arrive" see my link. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=39742

Here's what I think based on my GTR stages.... STAGE 1. (You should hit 250-270 at the rears on 15psi stock turbos) HKS Cam Gears Set Apexi Power FC Apexi FC Commander HKS Front Pipes - < or save some money and get an exhaust shop to custom some 2.5 into 3in for you around $400fitted + Boost Controller - I chose HKS EVC 3 or 4, much better than a AVC-R + Hi flow cat back system +approx labour cost and tune excluding parts $600-1K - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - HKS Extention Kit - < Found no real gain compared to my stock GTR dumps Apexi AVC-R - < Go the HKS EVC 3 or 4, holds boost perfectly Z32 AFM's - < moved to stage 2 Apexi Air Filter Kit - < replace the filter instead, and keep the standard box STAGE 2. (you should hit around 300 - 330kw on the rears on 18-20psi) Z32 AFM's Sard 700cc Injectors HKS GT-SS or GT2530 Turbo Kit Nismo 660+HP Fuel Pump - < or Bosch 044 Nismo G Max Twin Plate Clutch - Any twin plate +approx labour cost and tune excluding parts $2-2.5K - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STAGE 3. (optional) HKS Oil Cooler Kit - < dont bother if your not doing track work HKS Intercooler Kit - < around the 300-330kw the stock cooler is good enough Nismo 320Km Combo Meter - < please add soy sauce with my rice + Catch Can - < you didn't mentioned this but its a precautionary messaure

Good Question... I'd also like to add to that if I may. I believe the Boost Controller setting is adjustable on the R34 but only upto 1.2bar~. I remember someone mentioning that Nismo or Apexi have a software upgrade option for the monitor panel.

Me personally, I would take a gtr over an M3 anyday, and that includes the latest model M3. Suppose evreyone's got their requirements, and if want affordable luxury, "a little" bit of go, something that handles well "the current model is a bit of a rough ride", and sounds like tin box full of steel rice bubbles when you boot it , then maybe it's the car for you. Have you driven one yet? I think my mate still has his number plates if you want them "believe it or not - we hung it on him for sticking it on his car" the plates are HOTM.3
-
Just got off the phone with a mate, who had the 2003M3 SMG2.. He's making some calls for ya through some guys we know at BMW Melbourne & Some Wholesalers.. but here's what he said. 1. Definatley stay away from the SMG's in the E36 Range. 2. If you can afford it go for the 3.2ltr M3 Dunno how much you want to spend but I'll PM you when he gets back to me.
-
Just remembered.. if your looking for an older M3 stay away from the SMG 1 model. Big dramas I heard, just confiem it for yourself though. I kew a guy who had the SMG 1 and had major problems with the box. The newer shape has the SMG2 which is fine.

As far as I know, fuel reg is a bandaid option. Once you have the right pump, and it's pumping the right amount of fuel you don't need a fuel reg. PS: I believe R31Nismoid can get bosch pumps at good prices.

Ooooh Man! I'm going through the same problem. But not coz of the cops, because I just found out SEV plates are ready for the R34GTR. After all the spondooleees I've spent on the GTR. Either way we'll see if the right money comes along I'll take it, & if you're having the same issues I'd suggest you do the same.

Yes to all of the above expect for location. Ask for Paul - Glenroy Exhausts in Campbellfield

Handling mods for my 33GTR
meshmesh replied to ferni's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
As far as I know, it's all stock. And I think it's spot on the money at the moment. Admittably I wouldn't know any better, but it's not too harsh & handles very well for a car that doesn't see track work. -
Handling mods for my 33GTR
meshmesh replied to ferni's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ferni, It's been along time but I remember TRU TRACK in Leveson st North Melbourne used to have a very good name regarding suspension. Suppose you could try them as a start. -
jeeeeeez, you guys are hard on the kid! But so true you are! So I'll add my 2.2cents inc GST. Doh!... - Are all cops cops! - Do all cops suck Steve Brax's co(k - Are speed cameras really about driver safety & not revenue raising - Do all dyno's give the same reading Just incase you haven't got the message, the answer is Yes!
-
by then I predict a blue R34 with Nismo LMGT4 clocking around 110kw at all fours
-
You sure there wasn't a Black Sti 03 with a stock WRX boot wing on the dyno that made 209kw?? For some reason it doesn't suprise me my mate is full of sh!t. Always bragging how him and his mates beat GTR's... but they could'nt come close to me when I had 270at the rears.
-
My sincere commiserations ... Kidding, well done and wish you all the best. A couple of question though... 1. Who's doing the photography ? 2. One thing you haven't told us is how you proposed? Well as for me, I had some help from a mate who writes music and we wrote a song that I sang to her at a Kareoke lounge infront of about 200people. /blood/sweat/and tears, I tell ya! My legs were shaking that bad I was holding onto the mic stand to kepp me from dropping to the ground. Considering I'm no Dean Martin it turned out reall well, and we've been married for a year and a half and have beautiful boy. Only problem, I forgot it was Mother's day yesterday and copped the biggest ear bashing. Looks like another shopping spree is in order.. "here you go honey, take the credit card and spend what you like" this normally fixes the problem, just make sure you give her the card with the $500 limit.

You should have stuck it on Andrew. Did the monaro really get 250atw then? I'll have to keep my eyes open for the next one... should be fun, by then I predict a blue R34 with Nismo LMGT4 clocking around 450kw at all fours that'll stick it up the WRX hoons
