Which Tyres for street GTR
meshmesh replied to meshmesh's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
So far I've done about 250k's, taking it easy to wear em in.... and I am definately confident I've made the right choice. The cornering grip on 2-3 occasions felt like glue to the road. They seem to very soft in comparison, as I've noticed small road dirt & stones stuck to the tyres... a bit like a slick after a track day. I dunno maybe I'm just over-exagerating. This morning I filled em up with nitrogen to 35psi, only coz I've had nitrogen on my old tyres & love the feel of them. It gives the tyre a sort of surefooted thing about them, rather then the wobble feel and keeps the temps & tyre pressures consistant. I'll keep yo'll informed -

OK... Got my tyres this avo. As much as I would have loved some semi comps eg: ST215, and the ST115, after a little chat to Emre the oyher night at ICE. I ended up going for the S03 Bridgstones. Ended up paying $310 each size was 255 / 40 / 17. I thought the ST215 were a little unrealistic for everyday driving and have considerable wet weather disadvantages, seeing that winter & the cold season is here best to wait for summer or more track work. The ST115, well thanks for opinion dave, but I've tried em and wasn't to happy but again I probably didn't give them a good work out, so seeing everyone seems to rant on about the S03's, and if they can keep a 300kw Maloo HSV on the ground then they have my respect. Any how just thought I'd let yo'll know, and I was pretty happy with the price aswell. -
HKS F-CON V Pro ecu in R33 GTR
meshmesh replied to KamikazeR33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
forgot the company name, but there's that workshop in Richmond just off church street near Duttons, "guys" name is Vince I think, who is the HKS Distributor. Arrogant pr!ck, but has apparently worked for Gibson & delt heeps with GTR's. If you can tollerate his arrogance maybe give him a call. Otherwise, buy a PFC and get Nige at ICE to tune it. Just make sure you bring some beers down with you . -
could it be possible they were filming the next aami commercial?

I had another call at the office by a cop about advertising in their magazine.. Again he gave me the usual Police Tone Attitude, so I replied with soimple YES or No's, and when I said to him, mate I dont have time what's your point of this call, he gave me a speil about the magazine. So I replied with the usual, "with all the money you make from speed camera's you want more!!! Not interested" he replied "we don't get the money the Government does"... So I said "well go ask the government to advertise cause we're not interested.. goodbye:D" A$$holes, Police, EPA & The Brax Clan are really getting on my nerves. My name's mesh and "This is my personal opinion"

I've been advised we're best sticking to the original Conti's Sport Contact 2 or something... got 7-8000km out of them on the rears, I think the skid pan day did't help much either. Apparntley that was good mileage too, some guys with AMG's were only getting 5000 before they needed changing I'll wait for my tyre guy to get back to me, if he catches me at the right moment I might go the ST215.. -
Who's using HKS EVC Boost Controller?
meshmesh replied to meshmesh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
THREAD CLOSED: sorry double up the thread... DAMN ERROR Messages. -
We've just fitted the EVC 4, and have a few problems.... 1. If I set the High Boost to say 1.1bar, the boost reading goes upto 1.2-1.3, but on the dyno the boost is holding spot on. 2. Had a mate look at the instructions, and he thinks the LOW boost setting is when the controller starts to open the wastegate for spooling & the HIGH boost setting is the limit of boost. I thought he was crazy, because as I understand it, the LOW boost is for lazy driving & the HIGH boost is for everyday driving. But after some testing, I think he is correct, maybe someone can test it themselves? When I set my LOW Boost to eg: .5 and HIGH to 1.1 the boost comes on smooth and early, if I set my LOW boost equal to my HIGH boost, the boost is much more agressive and comes on later. I'm running HKS Silver Actuators which I believe are .9 ~ 1bar, If I'm setting my EBC LOW Setting below this figure, is it useless having these actuators?

Merli, Are you basing your opinion about the SO3 compared to the Dunlop D01J? Coz then that is understandable. I just off the phone this morning with a mate who's got the HSV Maloo Ute 255kw, these came out originally with SO2's which he said were unbeatable, but he only got 15K out them, and may people complained so they brought out the SO3 which were harder but he still said they gripped extreemley well. Considering I'm not doing any track work, I'd really love to go ST215 but worried about wet conditions, my next choice is the S03 which seems a bit more practical... dunno  ?? -

Andrew, I've just got off the phone with a Falken dealer Craig at "Track" something in Kilsyth, about some tyres; He also recommended the ST215, ST115 or S03 he thinks with some care I should get 15K-20K out of the ST215, but did say they were OK in the wet but need to be careful accordingly, and they would have trouble going through flat puddles eg: on Eastern freeway. I remember the ST115 on my WRX, and they felt pretty hard and not so grippy in the wet, so no respect to Dave, but I'm wary about them. I'm thinking at this stage the SO3 look the most suitable for my needs. The prices so far in a 255/40/17 are: ST115 $320 ST215 $320 SO3 $340 -

I used to have these on WRX, and wasn't that impressed with them.. admittingly I only drove on them for around 1000k's... Now you got me thinking, I've sort of come to a semi decision on a couple of tyres what you all think? - SO3 - BFGoodrich Profiler And now thanks to Dave's opinon: ST115 or what about the Fk451?? -

Is the front lip OK? How much & is it a Series 3 Large Lip? Do you have a pic? Sooooorrry, so many Q's, but would probably help you if you posted pics, and details etc. -
BFG are ready to go but need answers to those questions, but I'm still waiting for James' answers to my Q's...if the clutch deal is anything to go by, he should have the answers back to me by mid 2010 . At this stage I'm getting desperate for tyres on both the benz & the GTR.

Was that Donellans ? I need some tyre for bothe my cars, so If you reckon they were goos, I might give em a yell.

Hi guys, I had HKS Pods on my GTR, when we fitted the new turbo's and all my upgrades we opted to throw out the Pods and re-fit the standard airbox with a KN Filter. Considering my upgrades and comparing them to other GTR with pods, I made the same power if not more, I also noticed I can't hear my blow valves anymore... Personally I found in hot weather with the Pods you really felt the heat & power loss, we'll see how the standard box goes. Some food for thought, the Mines R34GTR N1 runs standard airbox with a mines fliter, and it produced the the lap record at tzsukba [spelling]

DYNO RESULT: GTR Before & After HKS GT2530
meshmesh replied to meshmesh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi Steve, I remember the drama's you had, and thanks for that thread, it's one of those threads that just sticks in my head. Firstly, like 99.9% GTR owners going for similar upgrades, the dumps were definatley on that list namely HKS, & the IC. Then SK & markr34gtr said stuff the HKS, Trust is the way to go.. So I head off to see the boys at ICE had a chat... Not Once, Not Twice... Probably about 10 times seriously, I asked the same question each time "Are you sure about sticking to the stock dumps??", they're reply was always the same "Yes, we see very minimal gains for the money... " So I figured a few things: 1. By doing something a little different to everyone else, could be a comparison for the forum & others to see if and what difference they really make. 2. If I felt that I was not happy with the cars performance then I could always fit the dumps later. I guess my thinking was similar to those who spend BIG $$$ on fancy plenums, manifolds for nothing when the stock units are more than [keyword]capable. I spent a bit more time today watching the boost carefully, and what I call boost [sorry no offence ferni ] some may argue, but I think boost is when you feel the BANG, and not so much the start of spool... If I take the latter my turbos start to spool from +0.00 @ around 3800-4000rpm, however you really feel the BANG around 4600-4900 all the way past redline. But I'll probably wait and see when mark gets his trust pipes and see his opinions. Either way the car is going back for some minor adjustments next week, I'll keep yo'll updated. PS: INASNT or any using the HKS EVC.....Need some help please Say you've selected either high or low setting, if you click "Mod" it goes through other functions in that setting. You get to a function that allows you to set between 50 - 150??? what does this do? -
DYNO RESULT: GTR Before & After HKS GT2530
meshmesh replied to meshmesh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi GZ, That's interesting, can I ask you a few questions?? Thanks [Disclaimer - I know that dyno's are a close indication and vary substantially according to many variants, and only using this a guide:)] Just looking at your graph, it seems overly laggy, is this true & how are you finding the 2540's? Have you driven one with 2530's? -
DYNO RESULT: GTR Before & After HKS GT2530
meshmesh replied to meshmesh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hi Jack... Gerald seems real excited about your car and said the same thing about comparing the two. I believe the dyno should be up and running as very late this avo, so once the boys are ready I'll drop it in next week so we can compare.. So glad to have the car back now it's your turn, but I'm sure you'll be rapped. PS: Be careful what you say infront of the snowman, he's on a mission of attack... I hear his going for the same set up as Leewah's but even more power... I heard him and gerald talking numbers like 700kw at the rears. -
Guys, I feel really bad about the delay..... and like I've already mentioned it's not in my hands any longer. You need to contact jamezilla, YES I know you've tried and tried with no response. he's a slackass to busy designing wierd and wonderful desktop themes on his mac... but all I can suggest is try PMing funkymonkey & R31Nismoid...
